Book A Method for the Determination of Thermal Conductivity of Propellant Materials by Differential Scanning Calorimetry

Download or read book A Method for the Determination of Thermal Conductivity of Propellant Materials by Differential Scanning Calorimetry written by Warren W. Hillstrom and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Benzoic acid, polymethylmethacrylate, polytetrafluoroethylene, and X-14 (a high energy, double-base propellant) were heated through decomposition and their thermal analysis curves compared. X-14 undergoes a pyrolytic decomposition beginning at 413 deg K and peaking at 573 deg K. The thermal conductivities of small samples of propellant and polymer were calculated from measurements of their rate of heat flow into a heat sink in a modified Differential SCANNING Calorimeter. This method will permit thermal conductivity measurements in small samples of sensitive materials, thus reducing hazards in their handling, and giving the first measurement on some very sensitive materials. Book Thermal Conductivity 16

Download or read book Thermal Conductivity 16 written by David C. Larsen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Thermal Conductivity Conference was started in 1961 with the initiative of Mr. C. F. Lucks and grew out of the needs of researchers in the field. From 1961 to 1973 the Confer ences were held annually, and have been held biennially since 1975 when our Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) of Purdue University became the permanent Spon sor of the Conferences. These Conferences provide a broadly based forum for researchers actively working on the thermal conductivity and closely related properties to convene on a regular basis to ex change their ideas and experiences and report their findings and results. The Conferences have been self-perpetuating and are an example of how a technical community with a common purpose can transcend the invisible, artificial barriers between disciplines and gather togeth er in increasing numbers without the need of national publicity and continuing funding support, when they see something worthwi1e going on. It is believed that this series of Conferences not only will grow stronger, but will set an example for researchers in other fields on how to jointly attack their own problem areas.

Book Principles and Applications of Thermal Analysis

Download or read book Principles and Applications of Thermal Analysis written by Paul Gabbott and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-30 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermal Analysis techniques are used in a wide range of disciplines, from pharmacy and foods to polymer science, materials and glasses; in fact any field where changes in sample behaviour are observed under controlled heating or controlled cooling conditions. The wide range of measurements possible provide fundamental information on the material properties of the system under test, so thermal analysis has found increasing use both in basic characterisation of materials and in a wide range of applications in research, development and quality control in industry and academia. Principles and Applications of Thermal Analysis is written by manufacturers and experienced users of thermal techniques. It provides the reader with sound practical instruction on how to use the techniques and gives an up to date account of the principle industrial applications. By covering basic thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) including the new approach of Fast Scanning DSC, together with dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA /TMA) methods, then developing the discussion to encompass industrial applications, the book serves as an ideal introduction to the technology for new users. With a strong focus on practical issues and relating the measurements to the physical behaviour of the materials under test, the book will also serve as an important reference for experienced analysts.

Book Handbook of Differential Scanning Calorimetry

Download or read book Handbook of Differential Scanning Calorimetry written by Joseph D Menczel and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2023-02-22 with total page 876 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is the most important thermal analysis technique used today and the most common thermal analysis instrument found in chemical characterization laboratories. DSC has become an everyday tool in characterization laboratories, but many researchers using this technique have a limited understanding of the true breadth of its capabilities. Up to now, there has been no book that would describe the application of DSC in all the various areas of materials chemistry. The Handbook of Differential Scanning Calorimetry has been written to fill that void. This book is designed to summarize the knowledge of differential scanning calorimetry so that materials researchers and application chemists are given both a better understanding of techniques , as well as a review of the full scope of its capabilities. It also discusses how to properly interpret the DSC thermograms data obtained. Included in this work is the most up-to-date information written by some of the leaders in the field. It is written not only to help users get the most out of their equipment, After reading this book, people in all chemical and biological areas will have a broad overview of this measuring technique, and will be able to utilize this analytical technique more efficiently. Provides a detail description of the theory behind differential scanning while simultaneously providing a wider breadth of understanding of the actual DSC technique Includes a review of the basics of heat flux and power compensation DSC’s, as well as separate chapters on inorganic and organic materials Reviews the most common commercial DSC instruments on the market and their uses, including TA Instruments, Perkin-Elmer, Hitachi, Mettler Toledo, Netzsch, and Setaram
