Book Precise Study of the Z gamma Boson Transverse Momentum Distribution in p bar p Collisions Using a Novel Technique

Download or read book Precise Study of the Z gamma Boson Transverse Momentum Distribution in p bar p Collisions Using a Novel Technique written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using 7.3 fb−1 of p{bar p} collisions collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, we measure the distribution of the variable [phi]*{sub {eta}}, which probes the same physical effects as the Z/[gamma]* boson transverse momentum, but is less susceptible to the effects of experimental resolution and efficiency. A QCD prediction is found to describe the general features of the [phi]*{sub {eta}} distribution, but is unable to describe its detailed shape or dependence on boson rapidity. A prediction that includes a broadening of transverse momentum for small values of the parton momentum fraction is strongly disfavored.

Book Measurement of 1 sigma Dsigma dy for Z gamma E e at S 1 2

Download or read book Measurement of 1 sigma Dsigma dy for Z gamma E e at S 1 2 written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author presents the measurement of p{bar p} → Z/[gamma]* → e+e− + X inclusive differential cross section as a function of boson rapidity. The data, which correspond to an integrated luminosity of 0.4 fb−1, were collected with D0 detector at Tevatron p{bar p} collider. At the Run II energy of √s = 1.96 TeV, Z bosons are produced with rapidity out to ± 3. The cross section is measured in a mass range between 71 to 111 GeV for the allowed kinematic range.

Download or read book Measurement of Sigma P Anti p Z Br Z 2tau in P Anti p Collisions at S written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a measurement of the inclusive production cross-section for Z bosons decaying to tau leptons in p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV. We use a channel with one hadronically-decaying and one electronically-decaying tau. This measurement is based on 350 pb−1 of CDF Run II data. Using a sample of 504 opposite sign e? events with a total expected background of 190 events, we obtain?(p{bar p} → Z) ·?(Z →??) = 263 ± 23(stat) ± 14(syst) ± 15(lumi) pb, in agreement with the next-to-next-to-leading order QCD prediction. This is the first CDF cross section measurement using hadronically-decaying taus in Run II.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first open access volume of the handbook series contains articles on the standard model of particle physics, both from the theoretical and experimental perspective. It also covers related topics, such as heavy-ion physics, neutrino physics and searches for new physics beyond the standard model. A joint CERN-Springer initiative, the "Particle Physics Reference Library" provides revised and updated contributions based on previously published material in the well-known Landolt-Boernstein series on particle physics, accelerators and detectors (volumes 21A, B1,B2,C), which took stock of the field approximately one decade ago. Central to this new initiative is publication under full open access

Download or read book Jet Physics at the LHC written by Klaus Rabbertz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the latest experimental results on jet physics from proton-proton collisons at the LHC. Jets allow to determine the strong coupling constant over a wide range of energies up the highest ones possible so far, and to constrain the gluon parton distribution of the proton, both of which are important uncertainties on theory predictions in general and for the Higgs boson in particular.A novel approach in this book is to categorize the examined quantities according to the types of absolute, ratio, or shape measurements and to explain in detail the advantages and differences. Including numerous illustrations and tables the physics message and impact of each observable is clearly elaborated.
