A single pressure gage was installed at a radial position to measure pressures at numerous chordwise locations through pressure taps and connecting channels. The technique resulted in accurate, detailed pressure distributions along two radial positions using two pressure gages. The major advantage of this technique is the ability to make measurements in the thin parts of the blade with high potential accuracy, and no disruption to the measuring surface, except for the orifice hole. Measurements were also made on the tail-load distribution on the horizontal tail in steady unaccelerated flight over a Mach number range of 0.30 to 0.79 and 0.30 to 0.74, respectively, for the power-on and power-off conditions.

Book excerpt: Experiments are described in which flow visualization and cavitation tests were conducted with two 24-inch diameter propeller models in the Center's 36-inch water tunnel. Flow visualization was performed using oil flow techniques and tufts to investigate possible flow separation on the blade surface. Cavitation tests were conducted to correlate with previously conducted surface pressure measurements. Results showed no indication of turbulent flow separation at the outer radii, and good qualitative comparisons between measured pressures and cavitation results. Book excerpt: The total horizontal-tail load and the root bending moment increments calculated by the use of existing rational procedures are compared with experimental values obtained in pull-up push-down maneuvers on a representative propeller-driven pursuit-type airplane for six different combinations of power, indicated airspeed, and pressure altitude. The computed loads were determined for the experimental elevator motions, and for two estimated linear design motions. There is also presented a comparison between the computed and the experimental load distributions. Briefly touched upon are two abbreviated static methods for predicting the maximum up-loads in pull-up push-down maneuvers.
