Book Measurement of the Cross Section for Prompt Isolated Diphoton Production in p bar p Collisions at sqrt S

Download or read book Measurement of the Cross Section for Prompt Isolated Diphoton Production in p bar p Collisions at sqrt S written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This article reports a measurement of the cross section of prompt isolated photon pair production in p{bar p} collisions at a total energy √s = 1.96 TeV using data of 5.36 fb−1 integrated luminosity collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The measured cross section, differential in basic kinematic variables, is compared with three perturbative QCD predictions, a leading order (LO) parton shower calculation and two next-to-leading order (NLO) calculations. The NLO calculations reproduce most aspects of the data. By including photon radiation from quarks before and after hard scattering, the parton shower prediction becomes competitive with the NLO predictions.

Book Fiducial Cross section Measurements of the Production of a Prompt Photon in Association with a Top quark Pair at s

Download or read book Fiducial Cross section Measurements of the Production of a Prompt Photon in Association with a Top quark Pair at s written by Joshua Wyatt Smith and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cross sections for top-quark pair production in association with a photon are measured in a fiducial volume with the ATLAS detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Results are presented using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHC during 2015 and 2016, amounting to a total of 36.1 fb$^{-1}$. This also presents the first $t\bar{t}\gamma$ cross-section measurements performed in the dilepton channels. Exactly one photon is required to have $p_{\text{T}} > 20$ GeV and be isolated based on track and calorimeter information. At least two (four) jets are required in the dilept...

Book Measurement of Double differential Cross Sections for Top Quark Pair Production in Pp Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Measurement of Double differential Cross Sections for Top Quark Pair Production in Pp Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Normalized double-differential cross sections for top quark pair (ttbar) production are measured in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The analyzed data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns. The measurement is performed in the dilepton e+/- mu-/+ final state. The ttbar cross section is determined as a function of various pairs of observables characterizing the kinematics of the top quark and ttbar system. The data are compared to calculations using perturbative quantum chromodynamics at next-to-leading and approximate next-to-next-to-leading orders. They are also compared to predictions of Monte Carlo event generators that complement fixed-order computations with parton showers, hadronization, and multiple-parton interactions. Overall agreement is observed with the predictions, which is improved when the latest global sets of proton parton distribution functions are used. The inclusion of the measured ttbar cross sections in a fit of parametrized parton distribution functions is shown to have significant impact on the gluon distribution.

Book Measurement of the B c pm Production Cross Section in p bar p Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Measurement of the B c pm Production Cross Section in p bar p Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here, we describe a measurement of the ratio of the cross sections times branching fractions of the Bc+ meson in the decay mode Bc+ → J/[psi][mu]+[nu] to the B+ meson in the decay mode B+ → J/[psi]K+ in proton-antiproton collisions at center-of-mass energy √s = 1.96 TeV. The measurement is based on the complete CDF Run II data set, which comes from an integrated luminosity of 8.7 fb-1. The ratio of the production cross sections times branching fractions for Bc+ and B+ mesons with momentum transverse to the beam greater than 6 GeV/c and rapidity magnitude smaller than 0.6 is 0.211 ± 0.012(stat)-0.020+0.021(syst). Using the known B+ → J/[psi]K+ branching fraction, the known B+ production cross section, and a selection of the predicted Bc+ → J/[psi][mu]+[nu] branching fractions, the range for the total Bc+ production cross section is estimated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a direct measurement of the differential[ital B][sup+] and[ital B][sup 0] cross sections, [ital d[sigma]/dp[sub T]] in[ital p][ital[anti p]] collisions at[radical]s= 1.8 TeV using a sample of 74[ital pb][sup -1] accumulated by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). The cross sections are measured in the central pseudorapidity region[vert-bar][eta][vert-bar][lt] 1 for[ital p[sub T]]([ital B])[gt] 6.0 GeV/c by fully reconstructing the[ital B] meson decays[ital B][sup+][r-arrow][ital J/[psi]K[sup+]] and[ital B][sup 0][r-arrow][ital J/[psi]K[sup*0]](892), where[ital J/[psi]][r-arrow][mu][sup+][mu][sup -] and[ital K][sup*0][r-arrow][ital K][sup+][pi][sup -]. The prediction of next-to- leading order QCD is consistent with the shape of the differential cross section but is low by a factor of 2.1[+-]0.2[+-]0.3. The integrated[ital B] meson cross section for[ital p[sub T]]([ital B])[gt] 6.0 GeV/c is determined to be[sigma]([ital B][sup -]= 3. 54[+-]0.22[+-]0.53[mu][ital b].

Book Measurement of the Differential Cross Sections for Top Quark Pair Production as a Function of Kinematic Event Variables in Pp Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Measurement of the Differential Cross Sections for Top Quark Pair Production as a Function of Kinematic Event Variables in Pp Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements are reported of the normalized differential cross sections for top quark pair production with respect to four kinematic event variables: the missing transverse energy; the scalar sum of the jet transverse momentum (pT); the scalar sum of the pT of all objects in the event; and the pT of leptonically decaying W bosons from top quark decays. The data sample, collected using the CMS detector at the LHC, consists of 5.0 inverse-femtobarns of proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV and 19.7 inverse-femtobarns at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV. Top quark pair events containing one electron or muon are selected. The results are presented after correcting for detector effects to allow direct comparison with theoretical predictions. No significant deviations from the predictions of several standard model event simulation generators are observed.

Download or read book A Precision Measurement of the Prompt Photon Cross Section in P bar P Collisions at square Root s written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A prompt photon cross section measurement from the CDF experiment at the Fermilab p{bar p} Collider is presented Detector and trigger upgrades, as well as six times the integrated luminosity compared with our previous publication, have contributed to a much more precise measurement and extended P{sub T} range. As before, the cross section agrees qualitatively with QCD calculations but has a steeper slope at low P{sub T}.
