Book Measurement of the B0 Lambda bar P Pi Branching Fraction AndStudy of the Decay Dynamics

Download or read book Measurement of the B0 Lambda bar P Pi Branching Fraction AndStudy of the Decay Dynamics written by M. Bondioli and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a measurement of the B{sup 0} {center_dot} {bar {Lambda}}p{pi}{sup -} branching fraction performed using the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric energy e{sup +}e{sup -} collider. Based on a 232 million B{bar B} pairs data sample we measure: {center_dot} (B{sup 0} {center_dot} {bar {Lambda}}p{pi}{sup -}) = [3.30 {center_dot} 0.53(stat.) {center_dot} 0.31 (syst.)] {center_dot} 10{sup -6}. A measurement of the differential spectrum as a function of the di-baryon invariant mass m({Lambda}p) is also presented; this shows a near-threshold enhancement similar to that observed in other baryonic B decays.

Download or read book Measurement of the B rightarrow P bar p K Branching Fraction and Study of the Decay Dynamics written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a sample of 232 x 106 [Upsilon](4S) 2!B{bar B} events collected with the BABAR detector, we study the decay B 2!p{bar p}K excluding charmonium decays to p{bar p}. We measure a branching fraction [Beta](B+ 2!p{bar p}K+) = (6.7 ± 0.5 ± 0.4) x 10−6. An enhancement at low p{bar p} mass is observed and the Dalitz plot asymmetry suggests dominance of the penguin amplitude in this B decay. We search for a pentaquark candidate [Theta]*{sup ++} decaying into pK+ in the mass range 1.43 to 2.00 GeV/c2 and set limits on [Beta](B+ 2![Theta]*{sup ++} {bar p}) x [Beta]([Theta]*{sup ++} 2!pK+) at the 10−7 level.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a measurement of the B° → {bar ?}p?− branching fraction performed using the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric e+e− collider. Based on a sample of 467 x 106 B{bar B} pairs we measure ?(B° → {bar ?}p?−) [3.07 ± 0.31(stat.) ± 0.23(syst.)] x 10−6. The measured differential spectrum as a function of the dibaryon invariant mass m({bar ?}p) shows a near-threshold enhancement similar to that observed in other baryonic B decays. We study the {bar ?} polarization as a function of {bar ?} energy in the B° rest frame (E*{sub {bar ?}}) and compare it with theoretical expectations of fully longitudinally right-polarized {bar ?} at large E*{sub {bar ?}}.

Download or read book Study of the Decay B0bar D Omega Pi written by B. Aubert and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report on a study of the decay {bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup +}{omega}{pi}{sup -} with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-factory at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Based on a sample of 232 million B{bar B} decays, we measure the branching fraction {Beta}({bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup +}{omega}{pi}{sup -}) = (2.88 {+-} 0.21(stat.) {+-} 0.31(syst.)) x 10{sup -3}. We study the invariant mass spectrum of the {omega}{pi}{sup -} system in this decay. This spectrum is in good agreement with expectations based on factorization and the measured spectrum in {tau}{sup -} {yields} {omega}{pi}{sup -} {nu}{sub {tau}}. We also measure the polarization of the D*{sup +} as a function of the {omega}{pi}{sup -} mass. In the mass region 1.1 to 1.9 GeV we measure the fraction of longitudinal polarization of the D*{sup +} to be {Lambda}{sub L}/{Lambda} = 0.654 {+-} 0.042(stat.) {+-} 0.016(syst.). This is in agreement with the expectations from heavy-quark effective theory and factorization assuming that the decay proceeds as {bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup +}{rho}(1450), {rho}(1450) {yields} {omega}{pi}{sup -}.

This book was released on 2008 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present an investigation of the decays {bar B}° →?{sub c}{bar p} and B− →?{sub c}+{bar p}?− based on 383 x 106?(4S) → B{bar B} decays recorded with the BABAR detector. They measure the branching fractions of these decays; their ratio is?(B− →?{sub c}+{bar p}?−)/?({bar B}° →?{sub c}+{bar p}) = 15.4 ± 1.8 ± 0.3. The B− →?{sub c}+{bar p}?− process exhibits an enhancement at the?{sub c}+{bar p} threshold and is a laboratory for searches for excited charm baryon states. They observe the resonant decays B− →?{sub c}(2455)°{bar p} and B−?{sub c}(2800)°{bar p} but see no evidence for B− →?{sub c}(2520)°{bar p}. This is the first observation of the decay B− →?{sub c}(2800)°{bar p}; however, the mass of the observed excited?{sub c}° state is (2846 ± 8 ± 10) MeV/c2, which is somewhat inconsistent with previous measurements. Finally, they examine the angular distribution of the B− →?{sub c}(2455)°{bar p} decays and measure the spin of the?{sub c}(2455)° baryon to be 1/2, as predicted by the quark model.

This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The [Lambda]{sub b}(udb) baryon is observed in the decay [Lambda]{sub b} → J/[psi][Lambda] using 6.1 fb−1 of p{bar p} collisions collected with the D0 detector at √s = 1.96 TeV. The production fraction multiplied by the branching fraction for this decay relative to that for the decay B° → J/[psi]K{sub s}° is measured to be 0.345 ± 0.034 (stat.) ± 0.033 (syst.) ± 0.003 (PDG). Using the world average value of f(b → B°) · [Beta](B° → J/[psi]K{sub s}°) = (1.74 ± 0.08) x 10−5, they obtain f(b → [Lambda]{sub b}) · [Beta]([Lambda]{sub b} → J/[psi][Lambda]) = (6.01 ± 0.60 (stat.) ± 0.58 (syst.) ± 0.28 (PDG)) x 10−5. This measurement represents an improvement in precision by about a factor of three with respect to the current world average.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using 65 million {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e{sup +}e{sup -} storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, they measure the color-favored branching fractions {Beta}({bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D{sup +}{pi}{sup -}) = (2.63 {+-} 0.05 {+-} 0.22) x 10{sup -3}, {Beta}({bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup +}{pi}{sup -}) = (2.79 {+-} 0.08 {+-} 0.18) x 10{sup -3}, {Beta}(B{sup -} {yields} D{sup 0}{pi}{sup -}) = (4.90 {+-} 0.07 {+-} 0.23) x 10{sup -3} and {Beta}(B{sup -} {yields} D*{sup 0} {pi}{sup -}) = (5.52 {+-} 0.17 {+-} 0.43) x 10{sup -3}, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. With these results and the current world average for the branching fraction for the color-suppressed decay {bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D{sup (*)0}{pi}{sup 0}, the cosines of the strong phase difference {delta} between the I = 1/2 and I = 3/2 isospin amplitudes are determined to be cos{sigma} = 0.860{sub -0.006-0.028}{sup +0.007+0.029} for the {bar B} {yields} D{pi} process and cos{sigma} = 0.917{sub -0.016-0.051}{sup +0.018+0.059} for the {bar B} {yields} D*{pi} process. The results for cos{delta} suggest that final-state interactions are presented in the D{pi} system.

Book Measurement of the Branching Fraction And Search for Direct CP Violation in the B J Psi Pi Decay Mode at BaBar

Download or read book Measurement of the Branching Fraction And Search for Direct CP Violation in the B J Psi Pi Decay Mode at BaBar written by Francesco Fobozzi and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phenomenon of CP-violation in weak interactions, discovered in 1964 in decays of neutral kaons, receives a simple and elegant explanation in the Standard Model with three generations of quarks. Indeed, in this model the common source of CP-asymmetry phenomena is represented by a simple complex phase in the unitary matrix (the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix) describing the charged weak couplings of the quarks. This simple scheme has never received an accurate validation, because the phenomenological parameters determined from measurements of CP-violation in kaons decays are related to the fundamental parameters of the theory in a complex way, sensitive to large theoretical uncertainties. On the contrary, decays of neutral B mesons like B{sup 0} {yields} J/{psi} K{sub S}{sup 0} represent a unique laboratory to test the predictions of the theory because they are expected to show significant CP-violation effects, the magnitude of which is cleanly related to the Standard Model parameters. Thus experimental facilities have been built with the purpose of performing extensive studies of B decays. The BABAR experiment is operating at one of these facilities, at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. It is collecting data at the PEP-II asymmetric e{sup +}e{sup -} collider (E{sub e{sup -}} = 9.0 GeV; E{sub e{sup +}} = 3.1 GeV), a high-luminosity accelerator machine (L = 3 x 10{sup 33} cm{sup -2}s{sup -1}). The center-of-mass energy (10.58 GeV) of the e{sup +}e{sup -} system at PEP-II allows resonant production of the {Upsilon}(4S), a b{bar b} bound state, which decays almost exclusively in a B{sup 0}{bar B}{sup 0} or a B{sup +}B{sup -} pair. A high-acceptance detector, projected and built by a wide international collaboration, detects and characterizes the decay products of the B mesons. From the analysis of the data collected during the first two years of operation, the BABAR collaboration has established CP-violation in decays of neutral B mesons at the 4.1{sigma} level. Besides the primary goal of CP-violation studies, the high luminosity of PEP-II, coupled with the high acceptance of the BABAR detector, allows competitive studies of the properties of a wide set of B decay modes. In particular, measurements of non-leptonic decays are extremely useful to understand the dynamics of the non-perturbative strong interactions involved in these processes. In this thesis a study of the non-leptonic decay mode B{sup {+-}} {yields} J/{psi}{pi}{sup {+-}} is presented.

Book Measurement of the B0 Psi 2S Lambda0 Branching Fraction on BaBar at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center Abstract Only

Download or read book Measurement of the B0 Psi 2S Lambda0 Branching Fraction on BaBar at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center Abstract Only written by Alexander Raymond Olivas (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The decays of B{sup 0} mesons to hadronic final states remains a rich area of physics on BaBar. Not only do the c{bar c}-K final states (e.g. B{sup 0} {yields} {psi}(2S)K{sup 0}) allow for the measurement of CP Violation, but the branching fractions provide a sensitive test of the theoretical methods used to account for low energy non-perturbative QCD effects. They present the measurement of the branching fraction for the decay B{sup 0} {yields} {psi}(2S)K{sub s}. The data set consists of 88.8 {+-} 1.0 x 10{sup 6} B{bar b} pairs collected on the e{sup +}e{sup -} {yields} {Upsilon}(4S) resonance on BaBar/PEP-II at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). This analysis features a modification of present cuts, with respect to those published so far on BaBar, on the K{sub S} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} and {psi}(2S) {yields} J/{psi}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} which aim at reducing the background while keeping the signal intact. Various data selection criteria are studied for the lepton modes (e{sup +}e{sup -} and {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup -}) of the J/{psi} and {psi}(2S) to improve signal purity as well as study the stability of the resultant branching fractions.
