Book Proceedings of the Sendai International Symposium

Download or read book Proceedings of the Sendai International Symposium written by Kazushige Maeda and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is based on the proceedings of the International Symposium on "Strangeness in Nuclear and Hadronic Systems (SENDAI08)," which is the third in a series of symposia on nuclear physics involving strangeness following SENDAI98 and SENDAI03. With the expectation of the completion of new accelerator facilities such as J-PARC and other new experimental facilities, recent theoretical and experimental results and future prospects of strangeness nuclear physics are discussed in great depth by leading experts of the field. The topics involved are electromagnetic production of strangeness, structure and decay of hypernuclei, hyperon-nucleon and hyperon-hyperon interactions, among others. It will also serve as a good textbook for studying the current status of strangeness in nuclear and hadronic physics.

Book Recoil Polarization Measurements of the Proton Electromagnetic Form Factor Ratio to High Momentum Transfer

Download or read book Recoil Polarization Measurements of the Proton Electromagnetic Form Factor Ratio to High Momentum Transfer written by Andrew James Ruehe Puckett and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon characterize the effect of its internal structure on its response to an electromagnetic probe as studied in elastic electronnucleon scattering. These form factors are functions of the squared four-momentum transfer Q2 between the electron and the proton. The two main classes of observables of this reaction are the scattering cross section and polarization asymmetries, both of which are sensitive to the form factors in different ways. When considering large momentum transfers, double-polarization observables offer superior sensitivity to the electric form factor. This thesis reports the results of a new measurement of the ratio of the electric and magnetic form factors of the proton at high momentum transfer using the recoil polarization technique. A polarized electron beam was scattered from a liquid hydrogen target, transferring polarization to the recoiling protons. These protons were detected in a magnetic spectrometer which was used to reconstruct their kinematics, including their scattering angles and momenta, and the position of the interaction vertex. A proton polarimeter measured the polarization of the recoiling protons by measuring the azimuthal asymmetry in the angular distribution of protons scattered in CH2 analyzers. The scattered electron was detected in a large-acceptance electromagnetic calorimeter in order to suppress inelastic backgrounds. The measured ratio of the transverse and longitudinal polarization components of the scattered proton is directly proportional to the ratio of form factors GE/Gpm. The measurements reported in this thesis took place at Q2 =5.2, 6.7, and 8.5 GeV 2, and represent the most accurate measurements of G' in this Q2 region to date.

Book Exclusive Reactions Of High Momentum Transfer Proceedings Of The International Workshop

Download or read book Exclusive Reactions Of High Momentum Transfer Proceedings Of The International Workshop written by Paul Stoler and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-06-22 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past decade considerable literature has appeared on the topic of exclusive reactions at high momentum transfer. Two important recent developments offer the possiblity of experimentally testing the theoretical ideas in a systematic way. These are the potential CEBAF energy upgrades and the proposed 15 - 30 GeV European Electron Accelerator, ELFE.This volume records the state-of-the-art in studying exclusive reactions at high momentum transfers and establishes a common body of knowledge to be shared by all. There is some emphasis on the use of perturbative calculations to connect hadron structure to experimental measureables and other topics, including color transparency, the use of QCD sum rules and experiemental data.

Book Exclusive Reactions at High Momentum Transfer

Download or read book Exclusive Reactions at High Momentum Transfer written by A. V. Radyushkin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exclusive reactions are becoming one of the major sources of information about the deep structure of nucleons and other hadrons. The 2007 International Workshop held at Jefferson Lab in Newport News, Virginia, USA - the world's leading facility performing research on nuclear, hadronic and quark-gluon structure of matter - focused on the application of a variety of exclusive reactions at high momentum transfer, utilizing unpolarized and polarized beams and targets, to obtain information about nucleon ground-state and excited-state structure at short distances. This is a subject which is central to the programs of current accelerators and especially planned future facilities. This proceedings volume contains, in concentrated form, information about the newest developments, both theoretical and experimental, in the study of hard exclusive reactions.

Book The Neutron Electric Form Factor to Q2

Download or read book The Neutron Electric Form Factor to Q2 written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nucleon elastic electromagnetic form factors are fundamental quantities needed for an understanding of nucleon and nuclear electromagnetic structure. The evolution of the Sachs electric and magnetic form factors with Q2, the square of the four-momentum transfer, is related to the distribution of charge and magnetization within the nucleon. High precision measurements of the nucleon form factors are essential for stringent tests of our current theoretical understanding of confinement within the nucleon. Measurements of the neutron form factors, in particular, those of the neutron electric form factor, have been notoriously difficult due to the lack of a free neutron target and the vanishing integral charge of the neutron. Indeed, a precise measurement of the neutron electric form factor has eluded experimentalists for decades; however, with the advent of high duty-factor polarized electron beam facilities, experiments employing polarization degrees of freedom have finally yielded the first precise measurements of this fundamental quantity. Following a general overview of the experimental and theoretical status of the nucleon form factors, a detailed description of an experiment designed to extract the neutron electric form factor from measurements of the neutron's recoil polarization in quasielastic 2H(e, e')1H scattering is presented. The experiment described here employed the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility's longitudinally polarized electron beam, a magnetic spectrometer for detection of the scattered electron, and a neutron polarimeter designed specifically for this experiment. Measurements were conducted at three Q2 values of 0.45, 1.13, and 1.45 (GeV/c)2, and the final results extracted from an analysis of the data acquired in this experiment are reported and compared with recent theoretical predictions for the nucleon form factors.
