Combining the charmonium state with either a K{sup +-}, K{sub s}°, K*{sup +-} exclusive B decays are reconstructed and their branching ratios determined. Using the fully reconstructed decays, both the B° B{sup +-} masses and their difference is measured. Finally the contributions of CP even and odd amplitudes in the decay B → J/[psi] K* are determined from an angular analysis.

Book excerpt: A wealth of new measurements of hadronic B decays to open charm and charmonium have been performed on the data sample collected by the BaBar experiment at the PEP-II e{sup +}e{sup -} B-factory. We report the first measurement of the rates for inclusive charm production separately for charged and neutral B mesons. Combining measurements of the decay rate of B{sup 0} {yields} D*{sub s}{sup +}D*{sup -} obtained with a partial reconstruction technique and the complete reconstruction of B{sup 0} {yields} D*{sub s}{sup +}D*{sup -} with D{sub s}{sup +} {yields} {phi}{pi}{sup +}, we obtain the most precise measurement of {Beta}(D{sub s}{sup +} {yields} {phi}{pi}{sup +}). We present an update of the measurements of the branching fractions of exclusive B decays to J/{psi}, {psi}(2S), {chi}{sub c1}, {chi}{sub c2} and a kaon or a K*. In addition, we show preliminary results on exclusive decay rates to final states with baryons, or newly-discovered particles, such as D*{sub sJ}(2317), D{sub sJ}(2460){sup +}, and the X(3872).

The second part of the thesis presents measurements of the prompt and non-prompt production of the chi_c1 and chi_c2 charmonium states in proton-proton collisions. These measurements are compared to several theoretical predictions and can be used to inform the development of theoretical models of quarkonium production.

Events are selected by fully reconstructing the decay of one B meson and identifying a charged lepton from the decay of the other [bar B] meson. IN the first analysis, the measurement of the first and second moment of the hadronic mass distribution in Cabibbo-favored [bar B] [yields] X[sub c][ell][bar [nu]] decays allows for the determination of the nonperturbative parameters [bar [Lambda]] and [lambda][sub 1] of Heavy Quark Effective Theory (HQET) and V[sub cb]. In the second analysis, the hadronic mass distribution is used to measure the inclusive charmless semileptonic branching fraction and to determine V[sub ub].
