Book Measurement of High Lying Nuclear Resonances and Search for Missing State in Double Charged Electroproduction Off the Proton

Download or read book Measurement of High Lying Nuclear Resonances and Search for Missing State in Double Charged Electroproduction Off the Proton written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have analyzed data taken by the CLAS collaboration in double charged pion electroproduction off the proton. We have used an isobar model specifically developed for the analysis of N [pi][pi] channel. This approach relates baryon resonance parameters to the experimental cross section, allowing the extraction of electromagnetic and some strong couplings from the fit to the data. A remarkable feature of the CLAS data is a resonance structure around 1.7 GeV which has not been seen in double pion photoproduction. The structure appears at all Q[sup 2] values from 0.5 to 1.5 GeV[sup 2] and it can not be reproduced with conventional N* values.

Book Search for Resonance Contributions in Multi Pion Electroproduction with CLAS at Jefferson Lab

Download or read book Search for Resonance Contributions in Multi Pion Electroproduction with CLAS at Jefferson Lab written by Herbert Funsten and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electroproduction data from CLAS at Jefferson Lab are being analyzed in order to identify resonant couplings to baryon resonances decaying into {pi}{Delta}, pN, or {omega}N. A multi-dimensional fit to the new two-pion electroproduction data not only provides better determined photocouplings of several resonances, but also implicates a significant correction of the hadronic couplings of resonances at W approx. 1.7 GeV. The electroproduction of w shows strong indications of u- and s-channel contributions at W below 2 GeV.

Book Proton Radiative Capture on 48Ti

Download or read book Proton Radiative Capture on 48Ti written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 48Ti(p, gamma)49V reaction was studied in the energy range Ep = 2.0--2.8 MeV. This research was performed at the High Resolution Laboratory at Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory. Capture spectra were obtained for 27 compound nuclear resonances whose resonance parameters (energy, spin, parity, and particle widths) had been determined in earlier experiments. The gamma rays were measured with a Compton-suppressed HPGe detector. A total of ten 1/2+ resonances, nine 1/2- resonances and eight 3/2 - resonances were studied. The primary motivation for these measurements was to provide a data set suitable for testing the applicability of conventional statistical models in this mass region. A secondary motivation was to evaluate the 'low level population' method (which works very well in heavier nuclei) in this mass region. The relative populations of 10 of the first 12 excited states of 49V were determined (the relative populations of two of the low-lying states could not be obtained due to gamma-ray resolution limitations). The average relative populations were similar for the three types of resonances. The experimental relative populations were compared with calculations performed with the statistical model code DICEBOX. Results for a variety of radiative strength function models yielded qualitatively similar results. These simulations agree only qualitatively with the experimental relative populations. Although the simulations suggest that the low level population method may work in this nuclide, the experimental results are at best ambiguous. Thus the statistical approach provides a reasonable qualitative description (but not a quantitative description) of the relative population of low-lying states in 49V.

Book The Interpretation of Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectra

Download or read book The Interpretation of Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectra written by Edmond John Haws and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This linear programme, divided into six self-contained teaching 'packages', promotes a student-active approach to the subject of interpreting proton magnetic resonance spectra. The student, whether working on his own or in a class, is participating in the learning process rather than passively reading information. He is able to assess his progress continuously while working through the text at his own speed, and can directly compare the state of his knowledge before and after completing a section. The authors, who have a wide experience of programmed teaching in chemistry, cover all the essential basic aspects of the subject. Designed for industrial trainees as well as for undergraduates, the book aims to build up experience by working with spectra from a very early stage. Each section in the book is preceded by a notice of its aims and objective- what the students should be able to do after working through it- and the little prior knowledge required is clearly defined. By the end of the programme the reader should be able to interpret the proton magnetic spectrum of a known substance, and to predict plausible alternative structures from the spectrum of an unknown substance. Like the two previous highly successful Heyden programmed teaching texts, on Gas-Liquid Chromatography by Pattison and Infrared Spectroscopy by Cook and Jones, this programme has been thoroughly validated by over 100 college and industry based students. Its effectiveness as a teaching an a revision text has been well proven prior to publication."- Publisher.

Book Electroexcitation of Nucleon Resonances from CLAS Data on Single Pion Electroproduction

Download or read book Electroexcitation of Nucleon Resonances from CLAS Data on Single Pion Electroproduction written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present results on the electroexcitation of the low mass resonances Delta(1232)P33, N(1440)P11, N(1520)D13, and N(1535)S11 in a wide range of Q2. The results were obtained in the comprehensive analysis of JLab-CLAS data on differential cross sections, longitudinally polarized beam asymmetries, and longitudinal target and beam-target asymmetries for pion electroproduction off the proton. The data were analysed using two conceptually different approaches, fixed-t dispersion relations and a unitary isobar model, allowing us to draw conclusions on the model sensitivity of the obtained electrocoupling amplitudes. The amplitudes for the Delta(1232)P33} show the importance of a meson-cloud contribution to quantitatively explain the magnetic dipole strength, as well as the electric and scalar quadrupole transitions. They do not show any tendency of approaching the pQCD regime for Q26 GeV2. For the Roper resonance, N(1440)P11, the data provide strong evidence for this state as a predominantly radial excitation of a 3-quark ground state. Measured in pion electroproduction, the transverse helicity amplitude for the N(1535)S11 allowed us to obtain the branching ratios of this state to the piN and etaN channels via comparison to the results extracted from eta electroproduction. The extensive CLAS data also enabled the extraction of the gamma*p - N(1520)D13 and N(1535)S11 longitudinal helicity amplitudes with good precision.

Book Search for Pair produced Resonances Decaying to Jet Pairs in Proton u2013 proton Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Search for Pair produced Resonances Decaying to Jet Pairs in Proton u2013 proton Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are reported of a general search for pair production of heavy resonances decaying to pairs of hadronic jets in events with at least four jets. The study is based on up to 19.4 fb–1 of integrated luminosity from proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. Limits are determined on the production of scalar top quarks (top squarks) in the framework of R-parity violating supersymmetry and on the production of color-octet vector bosons (colorons). First limits at the LHC are placed on top squark production for two scenarios. The first assumes decay to a bottom quark and a light-flavor quark and is excluded for masses between 200 and 385 GeV, and the second assumes decay to a pair of light-flavor quarks and is excluded for masses between 200 and 350 GeV at 95% confidence level. Furthermore, previous limits on colorons decaying to light-flavor quarks are extended to exclude masses from 200 to 835 GeV.

Book Observation of High lying Resonances in the H Sup Minus Ion

Download or read book Observation of High lying Resonances in the H Sup Minus Ion written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation reports the observation of several series of resonances, for which both electrons are in excited states, in the photodetachment cross section of H−. These 1P doubly-excited states interfere with the continuum in which they are embedded, and appear as dips in the production cross section of excited neutral hydrogen. The experiment was performed by intersecting an 800 MeV H− beam with a (266 nm) laser beam at varying angles; the relativistic Doppler shift then tuned'' the photon energy in the barycentric frame. The process was observed by using a magnet strong enough the strip the electrons from the excited hydrogen atoms in selected states n and detecting the resulting protons, which allowed the isolation of the individual n channels. Three resonances are clearly visible in each channel. The data support recent theoretical calculations for the positions of doubly-excited 1P resonances, and verify a new Rydberg-like formula for the modified Coulomb potential.
