Download or read book MEASUREMENTS OF BRANCHING FRACTIONS AND CP VIOLATING ASYMMETRIES IN B0 PI PI K PI K K DECAYS written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present measurements of branching fractions and CP-violating asymmetries for neutral B meson decays to two-body final states of charged pions and kaons. The results are obtained from a data sample of about 88 million[Upsilon](4S)[yields] B[bar B] decays collected between 1999 and 2002 with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. From a time-independent fit we measure the charge-averaged branching fractions[Beta](B[sup 0][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup -])= (4.7[+-] 0.6[+-] 0.2) x 10[sup -6] and[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] K[sup+][pi][sup -])= (17.9[+-] 0.9[+-] 0.7) x 10[sup -6], where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic; the 90% confidence level upper limit[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] K[sup+]K[sup -])

Book Quark Confinement and the Hadron Spectrum V

Download or read book Quark Confinement and the Hadron Spectrum V written by N. Brambilla and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an update on our understanding of strong interaction, with theoretical and experimental highlights included. It is divided into five sections. The first section is devoted to the investigations into and the latest results on the mechanism of quark confinement. The second and third sections focus respectively on light and heavy quarks (effective field theories, SchwingerOCoDyson approach and lattice QCD results). The fourth section deals with the deconfinement mechanism and quarkOCogluon plasma formation signals. The last section presents highlights of experiments, new physics beyond QCD, and nonperturbative approaches in other theories (strings and SUSY) that may be useful in QCD."

Book Observation of CP Violation in B DK Decays

Download or read book Observation of CP Violation in B DK Decays written by Paolo Gandini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-05 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CP violation is a well-established phenomenon in particle physics, but until 2001 it was only observed in kaons. In the last decade, several matter-antimatter asymmetries have been observed in neutral B mesons in line with the expectations of the Standard Model of the weak interaction. Direct CP violation is also expected in the decay rates of charged B+ mesons versus that of B- mesons, though the greatest effects are present in a decay that occurs just twice in 10 million decays. Such rarity requires huge samples to study and this is exactly what the LHC, and its dedicated B-physics experiment LHCb provide. This thesis presents an analysis of the first two years of LHCb data. The author describes the first observation of the rare decay, B- → DK-, D → π-K+ and the first observation of direct CP violation in this B decay. The work constitutes essential information on the experiment’s measurement of a fundamental parameter of the theory and stands as a benchmark against which subsequent analyses of this type will be compared.

This book was released on 2008 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present preliminary results of improved measurements of the CP-violating asymmetries and branching fractions in the decays B° →??−, B° → K+?−, B° →?°?°, and B° → K°?°. This update includes all data taken at the?(4S) resonance by the BABAR experiment at the asymmetric PEP-II B-meson factory at SLAC, corresponding to 467 ± 5 million B{bar B} pairs. They find S{sub??} = -0.68 ± 0.10 ± 0.03, C{sub??} = -0.25 ± 0.08 ± 0.02,?{sub K{sub?}} = -0.107 ± 0.016{sub -0.004}, {sup +0.006}, C{sub?°?°} = -0.43 ± 0.26 ± 0.05,?(B° →?°?°) = (1.83 ± 0.21 ± 0.13) x 10−6,?(B° → K°?°) = (10.1 ± 0.6 ± 0.4) x 10−6, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. They observe CP violation with a significance of 6.7? in B° → {pi}− and 6.1? in B° → K+{pi}−. Constraints on the Unitarity Triangle angle? are determined from the isospin relation between all B → {pi}{pi} rates and asymmetries.

This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present measurements of the branching fraction and time-dependent CP asymmetries in B{sup 0} {yields} J/{psi} {pi}{sup 0} decays based on (231.8 {+-} 2.6) x 10{sup 6} {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC during the years 1999-2004. We obtain a branching fraction {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} J/{psi}{pi}{sup 0}) = (1.94 {+-} 0.22 (stat) {+-} 0.17 (syst)) x 10{sup -5}. They also measure the CP asymmetry parameters C = -0.21 {+-} 0.26 (stat) {+-} 0.09 (syst) and S = -0.68 {+-} 0.30 (stat) {+-} 0.04 (syst). All results presented in this paper are preliminary.

This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a sample of 227 million B{bar B} pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC, we measure the branching fraction?(B° →?°?°) = (1.17 ± 0.32 ± 0.10) x 10−6, and the asymmetry C{sub?°?°} = -0.12 ± 0.56 ± 0.06. The B° →?°?° signal has a significance of 5.0?. We also measure?(B →?+?°) = (5.8 ± 0.6 ± 0.4) x 10−6,?(B+ → K+?°) = (12.0 ± 0.7 ± 0.6) x 10−6, and the charge asymmetries?{sub?+{pi}°} = -0.01 ± 0.10 ± 0.02 and?{sub K{sup +}{pi}°} = 0.06 ± 0.06 ± 0.01. Using isospin relations we find an upper bound on the angle difference.
