Book excerpt: This thesis describes the analyses of the rare charmless hadronic B meson decays B[sup 0] [yields] [phi]K[sup 0] and B[sup 0] [yields] K*[sup +][pi][sup -], using 20.58 fb[sup -1] of e[sup +]e[sup -] data taken at the [Upsilon](4S) resonance. The data were taken with the BABAR detector during its first run at the PEP-II asymmetric e[sup +]e[sup -] collider. Measurements of these modes using a counting technique are presented with the branching fractions [Beta](B[sup 0] [yields] [phi]K[sup 0]) = (9.3 [+-] 3.4(stat.) [+-] 1.1(syst.)) x 10[sup -6] with a significance of 4.9[sigma], and [Beta](B[sup 0] [yields] K*[sup +][pi][sup -]) = (20.8 [+-] 9.3(stat.) [+-] 2.1(syst.)) x 10[sup -6] with a significance of 3.0[sigma]. For the latter, an upper limit of [Beta](B[sup 0] [yields] K*[sup +][pi][sup -])

Book excerpt: Relative branching fractions of B{sub d, s}{sup 0} {yields} h{sup +}h'{sup -} decays (where h, h' = K or {pi}) and the direct Cp asymmetry A{sub CP} in the B{sub d}{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +}{pi}{sup -} mode are measured with 179 {+-} 11 pb {sup -1} of data collected using the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p{bar p} collider. The first branching-fraction measurement of a B{sub s}{sup 0} meson to two pseudoscalars, {Beta}(B{sub s}{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +} K{sup -}), and a search for the baryon mode {Lambda}{sub b}{sup 0} {yields} p{sup +} h{sup -} are also presented, in addition to branching-fraction limits on the rare channels B{sub s}{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +} {pi}{sup -}, B{sub d}{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +}K{sup -}, and B{sub s}{sup 0} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}.
Download or read book Measurement of Partial Branching Fractions of Inclusive Charmless B Meson Decays to K K0 and Pi written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present measurements of partial branching fractions of B 2!KX, B 2!K° X, and B 2![pi]+X, where X denotes any accessible final state above the endpoint for B decays to charmed mesons, specifically for momenta of the candidate hadron greater than 2.34 (2.36) GeV for kaons (pions) in the B rest frame. These measurements are sensitive to potential new-phisics particles which could enter the b 2!s(d) loop transitions. The analysis is performed on a data sample consisting of 383 x 106 B{bar B} pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e− asymmetric energy collider. The results are in agreement with standard model predictions and exclude large enhancements of the inclusive branching fraction due to sources of new physics.

Book excerpt: The authors report the measurement of the branching fractions of the rare decays B° → D{sub s}{sup (*)+}?−, B° → D{sub s}{sup (*)+}?−, and B° → D{sub s}{sup (*)-} K{sup (*)+} in a sample of 381 x 106?(4S) decays into B{bar B} pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy ee− storage ring. They present evidence for the decay B° → D{sub s}− K*+ and the vector-vector decays B° → D{sub s}{sup *+}?− and B° → D{sub s}{sup *-} K{sup *+}, as well as the first measurement of the vector meson polarization in these decays. They also determine the ratios of the CM-suppressed to CKM-favored amplitudes r(D{sup (*)}?) and r(D{sup (*)}?) in decays B° → D{sup (*)}{sup {+-}}?{sup {-+}} and B° → D{sup (*)}{sup {+-}}?{sup {-+}}, and comment on the prospects for measuring the Cp observable sin(2? +?).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present a measurement of R{sub B}, the ratio of the branching fraction for the rare decay D° → K?− to that for the Cabibbo-favored decay D° → K−?+. Charge conjugate decays are implicitly included. A signal of 2005 ± 104 events for the decay D° → K+?− is obtained using the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 0.35 fb−1 produced in {bar p}p collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV. Assuming no mixing, they find R{sub B} = [4.05 ± 0.21(stat) ± 0.11(syst)] x 10−3. This measurement is consistent with the world average, and comparable in accuracy with the best measurements from other experiments.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present measurements of the branching fractions for the charmless two-body decays B° →??− and B° → K+?−, and a search for the decay B° → K+K−. They include the effects of final-state radiation from the daughter mesons for the first time, and quote branching fractions for the inclusive processes B° → h+h'−n?, where h and h' are pion or kaons. The maximum value of the sum of the energies of the n undetected photons, E{sub {gamma}}{sup max}, is mode-dependent.
