Download or read book Polarized 3He e E n Asymmetries in Three Orthogonal Measurements written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asymmetry measurements were conducted in Jefferson Lab's experimental Hall A through electron scattering from a polarized 3He target in the quasi-elastic polarized-3He(e, e'n) reaction. Measurements were made with the target polarized in the longitudinal direction with respect to the incoming electrons A_L, in a transverse direction that was orthogonal to the beam-line and parallel to the q-vector A_T, and in a vertical direction that was orthogonal to both the beam-line and the q-vector (A_y0). The experiment measured $A_y0$ at four-momentum transfer squared Q2 of 0.127 (GeV/c)2, 0.456 (GeV/c)2, and 0.953 (GeV/c)2. The A_T and A_L asymmetries were both measured at Q2 of 0.505 (GeV/c)2 and 0.953 (GeV/c)2. This is the first time that three orthogonal asymmetries have been measured simultaneously. Results from this experiment are compared with the plane wave impulse approximation (PWIA) and Faddeev calculations. These results provide important tests of models that use 3He as an effective neutron target and show that the PWIA holds above Q2 of 0.953 (GeV/c)2.

Measurements were made with the target polarized in the longitudinal direction with respect to the incoming electrons (A[subscript L]), in a transverse direction that was orthogonal to the beam-line and parallel to the q-vector (A[subscript T]), and in a vertical direction that was orthogonal to both the beam-line and the q-vector (A[subscript y]0). Book Measurement of the Target normal Single spin Asymmetry in Quasielastic Scattering from the Reaction math Display

Download or read book Measurement of the Target normal Single spin Asymmetry in Quasielastic Scattering from the Reaction math Display written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report the first measurement of the target single-spin asymmetry, Ay, in quasi-elastic scattering from the inclusive reaction 3He1!(e, e') on a 3He gas target polarized normal to the lepton scattering plane. Assuming time-reversal invariance, this asymmetry is strictly zero for one-photon exchange. A non-zero Ay can arise from the interference between the one- and two-photon exchange processes which is sensitive to the details of the sub-structure of the nucleon. An experiment recently completed at Jefferson Lab yielded asymmetries with high statistical precision at Q2= 0.13, 0.46 and 0.97 GeV2. These measurements demonstrate, for the first time, that the 3He asymmetry is clearly non-zero and negative with a statistical significance of (8-10)[sigma]. Using measured proton-to-3He cross-section ratios and the effective polarization approximation, neutron asymmetries of -(1-3)% were obtained. The neutron asymmetry at high Q2 is related to moments of the Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs). Our measured neutron asymmetry at Q2=0.97 GeV2 agrees well with a prediction based on two-photon exchange using a GPD model and in addition provides a new independent constraint on these distributions.

Book Measurement of the Helicity dependent Asymmetry in sup 3 H e E Quasielastic Scattering

Download or read book Measurement of the Helicity dependent Asymmetry in sup 3 H e E Quasielastic Scattering written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis of the data from the MIT-Bates experiment in June 1993 to measure the helicity-dependent asymmetry in quasielastic scattering of polarized electrons from polarized 3He was completed. The neutron magnetic form factor was extracted from data on polarized 3He for the first time and is found to be in very good agreement with the dipole form at Q2 = 0. 19 (GeV/c)2. A paper reporting the transverse asymmetry and the extracted value of the neutron magnetic form factor was published, and papers reporting the transverse-longitudinal asymmetries at the quasielastic peak and on the low energy-transfer side of the quasielastic peak were submitted for publication.

Book Electromagnetic Response of Atomic Nuclei

Download or read book Electromagnetic Response of Atomic Nuclei written by Sigfrido Boffi and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the structure and dynamics of atomic nuclei in terms of nucleons, pions, and quarks, all within a unified treatment of the nuclear response to an electromagnetic probe. The basic formalism is presented to describe the electromagnetic field and its interaction with nuclear matter for both real and virtual photons. Nuclear response is then analyzed in terms of structure functions in the case of inclusive and semi-inclusive inelastic electron scattering. The discussion covers pion production and one- or two-nucleon emission and compares the results with available data. The formalism is also extended to incident polarized electrons, polarized targets and nuclear recoil polarization. It contains a comprehensive description of photonuclear reactions at intermediate energies and a review of experimental data and previous theoretical approaches.

Download or read book Polarized Electrons written by Joachim Kessler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid growth of the subject since the first edition ten years ago has made it necessary to rewrite the greater part of the book. Except for the introductory portion and the section on Mott scattering, the book has been completely revised. In Chap. 3, sections on polarization violating reflection symmetry, on resonance scattering, and on inelastic processes have been added. Chapter 4 has been rewritten, taking account of the numerous novel results obtained in exchange scattering. Chapter 5 includes the recent discoveries on photoelectron polarization produced by unpolarized radiation with unpolarized targets and on Auger-electron polarization. In Chap. 6, a further discussion of relativistic polarization phenomena has been added to the book. The immense growth of polarization studies with solids and surfaces required an extension and new presentation of Chap. 7. All but one section of Chap. 8 has been rewritten and a detailed treatment of polarization analysis has been included. Again, a nearly comprehensive treatment has been attempted. Even so, substantial selectivity among the wide range of available material has been essential in order to accomplish a compact presentation. The reference list, selected along the same lines as in the first edition, is meant to lead the reader through the literature giving a guide for finding further references. I want to express my indebtedness to a number of people whose help has been invaluable.

Book Inclusive Scattering from Polarized 3He and Neutron Form Factors

Download or read book Inclusive Scattering from Polarized 3He and Neutron Form Factors written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because of the lack of a free neutron target, deuterium targets had been used extensively in studying the neutron structure in the past from unpolarized electron-deuteron scattering experiments. Only recently polarized electron-deuteron scattering measurements have been performed which yield more precise information on the charge form factor of the neutron. The unique spin structure of the 3He ground state and the recent developments in polarized target technologies make polarized 3He targets very effective neutron targets. In this talk, the author reviews the current status of the polarized 3He targets and focus on the quasielastic asymmetry measurement from inclusive 3He(e, e(prime)) process and the neutron form factors. He discusses the results of the MIT-Bates experiment 88-25 and the preliminary results of the recently completed JLab experiment E95-001 in which precision measurements of the neutron magnetic form factor at low Q2 are aimed.
