Book Measurement of Aerodynamic Forces on an Oscillating Airfoil

Download or read book Measurement of Aerodynamic Forces on an Oscillating Airfoil written by Richard I. Windsor and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A literature survey was conducted to determine the state of the art of measuring and predicting aerodynamic characteristics of oscillating air-foils. Aerodynamic forces on a two-dimensional NACA 0012 airfoil oscillating sinusoidally in pitch were measured by two techniques. The forces were obtained from pressure measurements and by means of strain gage balances. Pressure measurements were made on the airfoil oscillating in pitch about the quarter-chord point at various mean angles of attack. Strain gage balance readings were obtained for models with pitch axis located at 25, 37, and 50 percent chord points oscillating about various mean angles. Direct force measurements were employed in an effort to obtain drag data. Instantaneous pressure distributions are presneted for representative oscillating conditions. (Author).

Book Measurement of Aerodynamic Forces for Various Mean Angles of Attach on an Airfoil Oscillating in Pitch and on Two Finite Span Wings Oscillating in Bending with Emphasis on Damping in the Stall

Download or read book Measurement of Aerodynamic Forces for Various Mean Angles of Attach on an Airfoil Oscillating in Pitch and on Two Finite Span Wings Oscillating in Bending with Emphasis on Damping in the Stall written by and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The oscillating air forces on a two-dimensional wing oscillating in pitch about the midchord have been measured at various mean angles of attack and at Mach numbers of 0.35 and 0.7. The magnitudes of normal-force and pitching-moment coefficients were much higher at high angles of attack than at low angles of attack for some conditions. Large regions of negative damping in pitch were found, and it was shown that the effect of increasing the Mach number from 0.35 to 0.7 was to decrease the initial angle of attack at which negative damping occurred. Measurements of the aerodynamic damping of a 10-percent-thick and of a 5-percent-thick finite-span wing oscillating in the first bending mode indicate no regions of negative damping for this type of motion over the range of variables covered. The damping measured at high angles of attack was generally larger than that at low angles of attack.

Book Experimental Aerodynamic Derivatives of a Sinusoidally Oscillating Airfoil in Two dimensional Flow

Download or read book Experimental Aerodynamic Derivatives of a Sinusoidally Oscillating Airfoil in Two dimensional Flow written by Robert L. Halfman and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 752 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental measurements of the aerodynamic reactions on a symmetrical airfoil oscillating harmonically in a two-dimensional flow are presented and analyzed in this paper. Harmonic motions include pure pitch and pure translation, for several amplitudes and superimposed on an initial angle of attack, as well as combined pitch and translation. Considerable consistent data for pure pitch were obtained from a search of available reference material, and several definite Reynolds number effects are evident.

Book Measurement of the Aerodynamic Forces on Oscillating Aerofoils

Download or read book Measurement of the Aerodynamic Forces on Oscillating Aerofoils written by and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Various techniques for oscillatory force measurements are considered in relation to their application to the measurement of the aerodynamic coefficients for a rectangular wing oscillating in modes of vertical translation and uniform pitch. It is shown that eight relevant coefficients are obtainable by any of the techniques described. The various corrections that must be applied to oscillatory aerodynamic force measurements are also discussed. The paper provides a basis for comparison of the various force-measuring techniques and should assist investigators in this field in determining the particular technique most likely to meet their requirements. Book Extension of the Theory of Oscillating Airfoils of Finite Span in Subsonic Compressible Flow

Download or read book Extension of the Theory of Oscillating Airfoils of Finite Span in Subsonic Compressible Flow written by Eric Reissner and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of an investigation of flows around and forces on an oscillating finite wing in subsonic compressible flow, the exact double integrals occurring in the theoretical formulation of the three-dimensional nonstationary aerodynamic forces have previously been reduced to single integrals over the range of either one of the two independent variables. The present report describes a method for solving the resultant three-dimensional problem based on a generalization of approximate methods for solving two-dimensional problems. It is shown that the calculation of three-dimensional corrections to the two-dimensional integral equation for spanwise variation of circulation, provided tabulated values for the kernal of the integral equation are available.

Book Theoretical Study of Air Forces on an Oscillating Or Steady Thin Wing in a Supersonic Main Stream

Download or read book Theoretical Study of Air Forces on an Oscillating Or Steady Thin Wing in a Supersonic Main Stream written by Isadore Edward Garrick and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper constitutes a theoretical study of the aerodynamic forces on an oscillating or steady wing of finite span moving forward at a uniform supersonic speed. The treatment is based on the linearized theory obtained by considering only small disturbances in an ideal fluid. The wing is therefore considered to be a nearly flat thin surface at a small angle of attack and the flow is considered non- viscous and free of strong shocks. The theory in this case is equivalent to finding certain solutions of the wave equation in three dimensions with respect to a moving coordinate system.

They are usually available in only a short course or in proprietary booklets Offers a critical review of the various methods of aerodynamic measurement and helps guide the reader to choose the most appropriate in each case Describes the evolution of specific techniques from old-fashioned mechanical processes to modern computerized versions aiding students and practitioners to understand results of their findings

Book Theoretical and Experimental Investigation of the Effect of Tunnel Walls on the Forces on an Oscillating Airfoil in Two dimensional Subsonic Compressible Flow

Download or read book Theoretical and Experimental Investigation of the Effect of Tunnel Walls on the Forces on an Oscillating Airfoil in Two dimensional Subsonic Compressible Flow written by Harry L. Runyan and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a theoretical and experimental investigation of the effect of wind-tunnel walls on the air forces on an oscillating wing in two-dimensional subsonic compressible flow. A method of solving an integral equation which relates the downwash on a wing to the unknown loading is given, and some comparisons are made between the theoretical results and the experimental results. A resonance condition, which was predicted by theory in a previous report (NACA Rep. 1150), is shown experimentally to exist. In addition, application of the analysis is made to a number of examples in order to illustrate the influence of walls due to variations in frequency of oscillation, Mach number, and ratio of tunnel height to wing semichord.

Book Active Control of Flow Over an Oscillating NACA 0012 Airfoil

Download or read book Active Control of Flow Over an Oscillating NACA 0012 Airfoil written by David Armando Castañeda Vergara and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Baseline data were obtained using the upgraded setup. Force and moment data from the load cell were acquired for all cases to obtain aerodynamic loading data. The results showed significantly lower uncertainty levels when compared with the data obtained from the previous setup due to the increased repeatability of the airfoil motion and the direct measurement of aerodynamic forces (which includes the effect of any potential flow three-dimensionality).
