Book Electromagnetic Fields Environment and Health

Download or read book Electromagnetic Fields Environment and Health written by Anne Perrin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-02-11 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A good number of misconceptions are currently circulating on the effects of non-ionizing radiations on our health, which can lead to an oversimplification of the issue, to potentially dangerous assumptions or to misleading data analysis. Health effects may be exaggerated, or on the contrary underplayed. The authors of this work (doctors, engineers and researchers) have endeavored to supply validated and easily understandable scientific information on the electromagnetic fields and their biological and health effects. After a general review of the physics of the waves and a presentation of non-ionizing radiations, the authors review the main emission sources encountered in our daily environment. They summarize simply but as accurately as possible the current knowledge on their biological effects. The safety limits recommended by international organizations are presented for the different frequency ranges. This book is intended for doctors, teachers, scientists, students, policy makers and anyone else interested in a deeper understanding of the health effects of electromagnetic fields. Intended to serve a broad readership, everyone will approach it according to their respective level of curiosity and knowledge. It is neither an exhaustive inventory of all the studies made to date, nor a survey text focusing only on some chosen studies. Nor is the objective to present all the sources of non-ionizing radiations. Interested readers will be given the opportunity to broaden their knowledge, also by consulting the selected bibliography presented by the authors at the end of each chapter.

Book Handbook of Advanced Lighting Technology

Download or read book Handbook of Advanced Lighting Technology written by Robert Karlicek and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Advanced Lighting Technology is a major reference work on the subject of light source science and technology, with particular focus on solid-state light sources – LEDs and OLEDs – and the development of 'smart' or 'intelligent' lighting systems; and the integration of advanced light sources, sensors, and adaptive control architectures to provide tailored illumination which is 'fit to purpose.' The concept of smart lighting goes hand-in-hand with the development of solid-state light sources, which offer levels of control not previously available with conventional lighting systems. This has impact not only at the scale of the individual user, but also at an environmental and wider economic level. These advances have enabled and motivated significant research activity on the human factors of lighting, particularly related to the impact of lighting on healthcare and education, and the Handbook provides detailed reviews of work in these areas. The potential applications for smart lighting span the entire spectrum of technology, from domestic and commercial lighting, to breakthroughs in biotechnology, transportation, and light-based wireless communication. Whilst most current research globally is in the field of solid-state lighting, there is renewed interest in the development of conventional and non-conventional light sources for specific applications. This Handbook comprehensively reviews the basic physical principles and device technologies behind all light source types and includes discussion of the state-of-the-art. The book essentially breaks down into five major sections: Section 1: The physics, materials, and device technology of established, conventional, and emerging light sources, Section 2: The science and technology of solid-state (LED and OLED) light sources, Section 3: Driving, sensing and control, and the integration of these different technologies under the concept of smart lighting, Section 4: Human factors and applications, Section 5: Environmental and economic factors and implications

Book Non binding Guide to Good Practice for Implementing Directive 2006 25 EC Artificial Optical Radiation

Download or read book Non binding Guide to Good Practice for Implementing Directive 2006 25 EC Artificial Optical Radiation written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Most workplaces contain artificial optical radiation sources and Directive 2006/25/EC lays down minimum health and safety requirements regarding exposure of workers to such sources. The European Commission non-binding guide to good practice for implementing Directive 2006/25/EC pinpoints applications posing minimal risk and provides guidance on others. It sets out an assessment methodology and outlines measures to reduce hazards and check for adverse health effects."--Ed.

Book Broadband UV VIS and IR Radiometric Photometric Color and Temperature Measurements

Download or read book Broadband UV VIS and IR Radiometric Photometric Color and Temperature Measurements written by George P. Eppeldauer and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2021-04-07 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In most field applications, broadband measurements are used where the spectral product of the source distribution and the meter’s spectral responsivity is measured. This book discusses detector-based radiometric, photometric, color, radiation-temperature, digital imaging-system, and LED measurements. It also shows that, while in photometry, the meter’s standard response covers only the visible, broadband measurements in the UV and IR require different standards. To avoid large errors when using a traditional detector- or source-standard, where the differences in the source distributions and in the meter’s responsivities produce large errors, the signal measurement procedure itself must be standardized. To satisfy the steps of the procedure, selected or properly designed meters should be used. This book is a guide to performing uniform broadband measurements with low uncertainty.
