Book Mean field Kinetic Equations for a Laser

Download or read book Mean field Kinetic Equations for a Laser written by Richard Henry Picard and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A set of kinetic equations is derived for a single-mode laser based on the assumption that the mean optical field of the laser model need not vanish. They constitute a coupled system for the field and single-atom density operators and are obtained from the quantum-Liouville equation by a generalization of the method of Bogolyubov. The equations are derived to second order in the matter-field coupling constant, assuming an asymptotic state with no matter-field correlations. (Author).

Book Kinetic Theory and Transport Phenomena

Download or read book Kinetic Theory and Transport Phenomena written by Rodrigo Soto and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the questions about which humanity has often wondered is the arrow of time. Why does temporal evolution seem irreversible? That is, we often see objects break into pieces, but we never see them reconstitute spontaneously. This observation was first put into scientific terms by the so-called second law of thermodynamics: entropy never decreases. However, this law does not explain the origin of irreversibly; it only quantifies it. Kinetic theory gives a consistent explanation of irreversibility based on a statistical description of the motion of electrons, atoms, and molecules. The concepts of kinetic theory have been applied to innumerable situations including electronics, the production of particles in the early universe, the dynamics of astrophysical plasmas, quantum gases or the motion of small microorganisms in water, with excellent quantitative agreement. This book presents the fundamentals of kinetic theory, considering classical paradigmatic examples as well as modern applications. It covers the most important systems where kinetic theory is applied, explaining their major features. The text is balanced between exploring the fundamental concepts of kinetic theory (irreversibility, transport processes, separation of time scales, conservations, coarse graining, distribution functions, etc.) and the results and predictions of the theory, where the relevant properties of different systems are computed. Book Dynamics Models and Kinetic Methods for Non equilibrium Many Body Systems

Download or read book Dynamics Models and Kinetic Methods for Non equilibrium Many Body Systems written by John Karkheck and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent years have witnessed a resurgence in the kinetic approach to dynamic many-body problems. Modern kinetic theory offers a unifying theoretical framework within which a great variety of seemingly unrelated systems can be explored in a coherent way. Kinetic methods are currently being applied in such areas as the dynamics of colloidal suspensions, granular material flow, electron transport in mesoscopic systems, the calculation of Lyapunov exponents and other properties of classical many-body systems characterised by chaotic behaviour. The present work focuses on Brownian motion, dynamical systems, granular flows, and quantum kinetic theory.

Download or read book Physics of Ultra Cold Matter written by J.T. Mendonça and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of laser cooling of atoms led to the discovery of ultra-cold matter, with temperatures below liquid Helium, which displays a variety of new physical phenomena. Physics of Ultra-Cold Matter gives an overview of this recent area of science, with a discussion of its main results and a description of its theoretical concepts and methods. Ultra-cold matter can be considered in three distinct phases: ultra-cold gas, Bose Einstein condensate, and Rydberg plasmas. This book gives an integrated view of this new area of science at the frontier between atomic physics, condensed matter, and plasma physics. It describes these three distinct phases while exploring the differences, as well as the sometimes unexpected similarities, of their respective theoretical methods. This book is an informative guide for researchers, and the benefits are a result from an integrated view of a very broad area of research, which is limited in previous books about this subject. The main unifying tool explored in this book is the wave kinetic theory based on Wigner functions. Other theoretical approaches, eventually more familiar to the reader, are also given for extension and comparison. The book considers laser cooling techniques, atom-atom interactions, and focuses on the elementary excitations and collective oscillations in atomic clouds, Bose-Einstein condensates, and Rydberg plasmas. Linear and nonlinear processes are considered, including Landau damping, soliton excitation and vortices. Atomic interferometers and quantum coherence are also included.

Book Kinetic Equations for Lasers and Optical Pumping

Download or read book Kinetic Equations for Lasers and Optical Pumping written by Charles R. Willis and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under the present contract the authors have developed and extended previous work on the description and understanding of laser behavior from a fundamental microscopic point of view and we have generalized the previous work to include multimode effects, pulse propagation, collision effects in gas lasers and a more exact treatment of the radiation matter interaction in a quantum Boltzman equation for the laser. In addition the authors used a general approach to the laser problem to derive and develop kinetic equations for optical pumping which contain existing theories as limiting cases and go beyond present theories in the treatment of radiation. This report consists of the abstracts of papers published in physics journals and books, abstract of talks presented at American Physical Society meetings and abstracts of Ph. D. theses completed during the present contract. (Author).
