Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT) has become a fundamental imaging technique for the study of many anatomical districts in different clinical situations, as it provides a fast, reliable, and accurate simultaneous evaluation of different organs, including parenchyma, hollow viscera, vessels, and bony structures. It has also equipped the radiologist with the ability to explore areas that in the last decade were largely ignored by CT, especially the coronary arteries and the colon, and to limit invasive diagnostic tests (e.g., catheter angiography) to those cases in which interventional procedures are required. The examination quality and the consequent diagnostic accuracy of MDCT are the results of an optimized study technique, which nonetheless needs to be adapted to the particular clinical situation of the patient, while bearing in mind the radiation exposure. Another fundamental parameter in the optimization of MDCT is the protocol for the intravenous injection of iodinated contrast material; in these studies, multiple variables, some modifiable by the operator and others patient-dependent, must be considered based on the aims of maximizing arterial and venous enhancements whilst minimizing the dose of iodine injected, saving money, and increasing patient safety. Through the presentation of cases addressing different anatomical regions and various clinical indications, including emergency and neuro-imaging, this volume seeks to provide the general radiologist and trainee specialist with a guide to the main study protocols to be implemented in order to optimize examination quality and, consequently, facilitate the diagnostic process.

Book Radiation Dose from Multidetector CT

Download or read book Radiation Dose from Multidetector CT written by Denis Tack and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-06-05 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computed tomography (CT) is a powerful technique providing precise and confident diagnoses. The burgeoning use of CT has resulted in an exponential increase in collective radiation dose to the population. Despite investigations supporting the use of lower radiation doses, surveys highlight the lack of proper understanding of CT parameters that affect radiation dose. Dynamic advances in CT technology also make it important to explain the latest dose-saving strategies in an easy-to-comprehend manner. This book aims to review all aspects of the radiation dose from CT and to provide simple rules and tricks for radiologists and radiographers that will assist in the appropriate use of CT technique. The second edition includes a number of new chapters on the most up-to-date strategies and technologies for radiation dose reduction while updating the outstanding contents of the first edition. Vendor perspectives are included, and an online image gallery will also be available to readers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT) has advanced the approach to diagnostic assessment of many pathologies and now plays an integral role in imaging of both abdominal and cardiovascular diseases. The possibility to acquire diagnostic images with shorter scan duration, longer scan ranges, and/or thinner sections, MDCT has facilitated the opening of new horizons, such as interventional MDCT and functional imaging in stroke and oncology. In addition, advanced postprocessing techniques now permit high quality volumetric imaging in combination with maximum intensity projections, volume rendering, curved planar reformations and multiplanar reconstructions. This volume gathers contributions by internationally renowned specialists in the field who, through presenting their clinical experience, provide a thorough overview not only of MDCT and its practical applications, but also of workflow management in everyday clinical practice. Focussing on scanning and contrast protocols, the current advantages and disadvantages of non-enhanced vs. enhanced MDCT are discussed, along with insights into likely future developments. The volume represents an up-to-date source of technical and practically-oriented clinical information which should prove of great benefit to all who wish to improve or consolidate their knowledge and expertise in MDCT.

Download or read book CT of the Heart written by U. Joseph Schoepf and published by Humana Press. This book was released on 2019-04-01 with total page 931 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive and richly-illustrated guide to cardiac CT, its current state, applications, and future directions. While the first edition of this text focused on what was then a novel instrument looking for application, this edition comes at a time where a wealth of guideline-driven, robust, and beneficial clinical applications have evolved that are enabled by an enormous and ever growing field of technology. Accordingly, the focus of the text has shifted from a technology-centric to a more patient-centric appraisal. While the specifications and capabilities of the CT system itself remain front and center as the basis for diagnostic success, much of the benefit derived from cardiac CT today comes from avant-garde technologies enabling enhanced visualization, quantitative imaging, and functional assessment, along with exciting deep learning, and artificial intelligence applications. Cardiac CT is no longer a mere tool for non-invasive coronary artery stenosis detection in the chest pain diagnostic algorithms; cardiac CT has proven its value for uses as diverse as personalized cardiovascular risk stratification, prediction, and management, diagnosing lesion-specific ischemia, guiding minimally invasive structural heart disease therapy, and planning cardiovascular surgery, among many others. This second edition is an authoritative guide and reference for both novices and experts in the medical imaging sciences who have an interest in cardiac CT.

  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 3642594417
  • Pages : 210 pages

Download or read book Multislice CT written by M.F. Reiser and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The introduction of multidetector spiral CT into clinical practice is without any doubt one of the most important technical developments in the field of computed tomography in general, and spiral CT in particular, in recent years. Indeed, multislice CT technology, based on the spiral CT technique invented by W. Kalender almost 20 years ago, has opened immense and totally new perspectives for better utilisation of contrast medium during the examination, for optimal multiplanar reconstruction and for increased patient throughput. The potential applications, more specifically in the area of CT angiography of the brain and the heart and vessels, are most interesting and definitely contribute to better patient care as well as to more effi cient utilisation of equipment. These exciting new clinical applications explain the keen desire of radiologists and other clinicians to hear and learn more about the first results obtained with this new equipment in daily clinical practice. This book will satisfy their needs. Professor Maximilian F. Reiser was among the first to install multidetector CT in his department in Munich and to gain experience with this new radiological tool. He was also able to organise a very successful and well attended international meeting on this hot topic as early as z 2000 in Starnberg, Germany.

Book Protocols for Cardiac MR and CT

Download or read book Protocols for Cardiac MR and CT written by Guillem Pons-Lladó and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-11 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practically oriented book opens by describing the basic Cardiac MR (CMR) sequences and Cardiac CT (CCT) acquisition techniques, offering step-by-step guidelines on acquiring CMR and CCT studies and analyzing images. The main body of the book provides a comprehensive description of the study protocols most suitable for particular diseases and discusses their respective rationales. In addition, it highlights key findings for every pathological condition, complemented by extensive illustrations. The book especially addresses the needs of junior cardiologists and radiologists embarking on the regular use of MR-based and CT-based cardiac imaging, though it also offers a valuable reference manual for senior specialists. Of particular benefit is the inclusion of both CMR and CCT, techniques which are usually treated separately, despite the regular use of both at advanced Cardiac Imaging Units.
