Book A BRIEF ECONOMIC HISTORY OF COLONIAL NSW

Download or read book A BRIEF ECONOMIC HISTORY OF COLONIAL NSW written by Gordon Beckett and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-08-23 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Any economic history written in the 21st century of colonial Australia, will highlight the economic gains made by Governor Macquarie, especially in the broad planning approach to efficiently and effectively use convict labour for economic improvement in the colony. Whilst Macquarie tried to make the colony safe and attractive to investors and entrepreneurs, he used the various Government business enterprises, such as the Lumber and Timber Yards, the Stone Quarry and the naval yard, to supplement the gains already accomplished by the Government Farms and the Government Store (the Commissariat) to underpin outstanding economic growth and impressive GDP in the colonial economy. The various aspects of the colonial economy make interesting reading not to mention the comparison of the Aboriginal economy of 1788 with the white economy. The study is a different approach to the colonial economy and is the first of an impressive series of studies of each of the aspects of the economy between 1788 and 1835.

Book Financing the Colonial Economy 1800 1835

Download or read book Financing the Colonial Economy 1800 1835 written by Gordon Beckett and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series explains the many important aspects of the colonial economy of N.S.W. between 1788 and 1835. In conjunction with the volume, guiding the economy, this study of financing the economy, provides a full and valuable insight into the formation of the NSW Treasury and its economic policies. The arrival of the Legislative Council changed the role and duties of the Governor in a major way. Instead of the autocratic governance previously experienced, there was now the need for compromise and the acceptance of guidance from an Appointed Council. The financial statements of the colony between 1802 and 1850 have been subjected to scrutiny for the first time and most interesting conclusions have been drawn concerning the performance of the colonial economy.
