Download or read book Drifting written by Antonio Alvendia and published by Motorbooks. This book was released on 2006-08-01 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dreamed up by drivers trying to outdo each other on the mountain passes of Japan, the art of the sideways descent of a switchback-what Wired described as "the fishtailing ballet of burning rubber called drifting"-has made it to the United States in a big way. What began as a new kind of daredevil driving among teens has, over two decades, become a sanctioned sport, making its way across the Pacific through video games and magazines, anime and the Internet, to take root in California's fertile underground racing culture. Drifting tells the story of drifting from its arrival on the West Coast to its emergence as the hottest form of motorsport in the United States. A dramatic visual record of the sport in America that includes over 400 photos, the book also profiles the people, teams, techniques, web sites, publications, videos, and trends that have made drifting the phenomenon that it is today. For the curious newcomer, author Antonio Alvendia's introduction succinctly explains what drifting is, setting the stage for the thrilling automotive drama that then unfolds. For the veteran drifting fan, this book is the first illustrated book on the latest motorsport to conquer the world.

Download or read book Mr Le Mans written by Tom Kristensen and published by Evro Publishing Limited. This book was released on 2021-05-18 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1997 and 2014, Tom Kristensen won the world's toughest motor race, the Le Mans 24 Hours, a record nine times and finished on the podium on five more occasions. Every time his car made it to the finish, in fact, he was in the top three. It is no wonder that this great sports car driver is known as 'Mr Le Mans' to motorsport fans around the world. Now retired from racing, Kristensen shares in this book his deepest personal reflections and insights from inside and outside the cockpit. He looks back on more than 30 years spent striving for perfection in racing and tells of the battles and setbacks that sometimes seemed impossible to overcome, including a terrible accident in 2007. Climbing the racing ladder, from karting into Formula 3 single-seaters, including championship titles in Germany (1991) and Japan (1993), then Formula 3000 and a Formula 1 testing role with Tyrrell. Winning as an underdog on his first visit to Le Mans, in 1997 driving an elderly Joest-run privateer Porsche in which he impressed all onlookers with a night-time charge to vanquish Porsche's factory-entered favourite. His second Le Mans victory came in 2000 on his maiden drive for Audi in the R8, a car that was to become all-conquering. Kristensen won the next five editions of Le Mans, four times with Audi and once with Bentley (in 2003), his last victory in this sequence taking him past Jacky Ickx's previous record at the Circuit de la Sarthe. His eighth win came in one of the all-time classic contests at Le Mans, in 2008, a rollercoaster of a race in which his ageing diesel-powered Audi was never expected to beat the fancied works Peugeots. One more victory with Audi in 2013 sealed his reputation as a true legend of Le Mans. His story includes exploits at other racetracks all over the world, none more prolific than Sebring, home of America's long-established classic endurance race that Kristensen won six times. Personal reflections together with contributions from notable observers -- including English journalists Gary Watkins and Charles Bradley -- complete a truly rounded portrait of the man and his achievements. Voted 'Sports Book of the Year' when originally published in Kristensen's native Denmark, this thoughtful memoir is now available in English.

Download or read book Million Cars for Billion People written by Gautam Sen and published by One Point Six Technology Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2014-10-11 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can one car transform a nation? The Ford Model T did do so a century ago when it replaced the horse, brought about a revolution in agriculture, became a stimulus to urbanization that eventually changed the landscape of America. Though the Maruti 800, the Tata Indica, the Hyundai Santro and the Maruti Alto, became engines of growth for India, these cars neither drove away the cow nor changed the way Indians travelled. Tata’s Nano was expected to change all that and become the ultimate people’s car, capturing the imagination of the middle class across nations and cultures. In spite of its petite dimensions, the Nano was meant to stand tall. Yet it did not. What caused it to fail and fall from grace despite being lauded as the ‘right product at the right time’ and ‘the most significant new car since the Ford Model T was introduced 100 years ago’? But is it really all over or is there still hope for India’s ‘little wonder’? What will the people’s cars of tomorrow be like? A Million Cars for a Billion People delves into the questions, concerns and doubts, as well as the many misconceptions and myths, that have gathered momentum over the years about India’s automotive history and the industry’s mission to create a true ‘people’s car’. The very first cars that came to India; the early beginnings of the industry; the nascent history of the automobile across nations like Germany, France, US, the UK, Italy, Japan and South Korea, is narrated with authority and charm, from the viewpoint of the quest for the ultimate people’s car.

Download or read book Richard Mille written by Alain Borer and published by Editions Cercle D'art (Acc). This book was released on 2010-02 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A stunning photographic survey of the beautiful wristwatches created by Richard Mille, whose timepieces are instantly recognisable by the use of high-tech materials and incredible design Richard Mille, 54, has devoted his career to haute horology. His love for high-precision mechanism and his passion for technological perfection have inspired his creations. Thousands of hours devoted to engineering research in a state-of-the-art workshop in the Swiss Jura resulted in the realisation and marketing in 2001 of a wristwatch which was the most ergonomic and the most technically sophisticated watch of its time. Since then, about ten new models have been created and launched successfully. In a Richard Mille watch, the concept dictates the components, and not the other way round. Therefore there is no "standard" part. Carbon fibre, silicon, metallic and non-metallic alloys and ceramics are no longer exclusive to the car, aeronautics or aerospace industries. These materials offer haute horology fabulous possibilities and new technical solutions, provided it accepts the challenge of their adaptation to watchmaking. These costly materials must be tried and tested many times before their full potential to watchmaking is appreciated and understood by the tool-makers and watch-mechanics. It can be considered therefore that Richard Mille watches are futuristic high-tech works of art. Text in English & French. AUTHOR: Alain Borer is a French poet and writer and teaches at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. In 2003 he received the Joseph Kessel prize for his novel Koba. He is also the author of Icare & I don't which won him the Apollinaire prize in 2008. ILLUSTRATIONS 200 colour illustrations
