Book McCully s New Brunswick

Download or read book McCully s New Brunswick written by Dan Soucoup and published by Dundurn. This book was released on 2005-11-26 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the Great Depression, promoter, salesman, and pilot Richard Thorne McCully became an aviation pioneer, capturing much of the Maritime region from the air. Along with photographer Harold Reid and pilot Marty Fraser, McCully spent the early 1930s flying over Atlantic Canada. The photographs they took offer a rare glimpse into prominent homes, vibrant businesses, churches, farms and waterfronts that are no longer standing or have been significantly altered. Each photo has been annotated with the natural features, architecture, streetscapes, industries, sporting events and other pastimes, and colourful characters depicted. These unique bird’s-eye views from 1931 to 1939 capture the feeling of that first day in May 1931 when McCully’s small twin-engine took off from the tiny Moncton airport.

Book Stratigraphy Structural Geology and Tectonic History of the McCully Area Moncton Subbasin Southeastern New Brunswick

Download or read book Stratigraphy Structural Geology and Tectonic History of the McCully Area Moncton Subbasin Southeastern New Brunswick written by Paul Wilson and published by [Fredericton] : New Brunswick, Minerals, Policy and Planning Division. This book was released on 2005 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The McCully area in the western part of the Late Devonian to Carboniferous Moncton Subbasin, located north-east of Sussex, New Brunswick, is of economic importance because of the presence of potash & rock salt deposits and a natural gas field. The primary objectives of this report are to understand the structural geology, three-dimensional architecture, and tectonic history of the Late Devonian to Carboniferous rocks in the vicinity of the McCully gas field. Special attention is paid to the morphology, kinematics, and timing of structures relevant to the structural control of the petroleum system in Albert Formation rocks of the gas field, and to emplacement & control of potash deposits in the study area. Data from surface mapping, industry & public domain seismic reflection profiles, drill core from potash exploration drilling, and well cuttings from the gas field are integrated in this study. The results presented advance knowledge of the stratigraphy & structural geology of the area and contribute to the assessment of structural controls on sedimentation, hydrocarbon traps, and potash & salt emplacement. The implications of the data for the tectonic history & setting of the larger Maritimes Basin are also evaluated.

This book was released on 2014-12-05 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shale gas is to New Brunswick today what the Free Trade Agreement with the United States was to Canada a quarter century ago: a deeply controversial, highly polarizing issue over which tempers quickly flare up. As was the case with the free trade debate, the public discourse on shale gas has degenerated into a war of words, with most citizens left in the middle with very little information they can trust to secure a better understanding of what is at stake. This study aims to fill part of the wide information gap on shale gas in New Brunswick. While substantial knowledge has been built in recent years on the impact—both positive and negative—of shale gas on communities where it is actively being exploited, much less is available for New Brunswick. Yet, as this document makes clear, no two shales are alike. In order to understand the economic, environmental, social, and other consequences of shale gas, we cannot rely exclusively on other jurisdictions: we also need to investigate New Brunswick’s specific context. Virtually all of the contributors to this study—well-established, credible authorities in their respective fields—are associated with New Brunswick universities in one way or another.

Book Essays in the History of Canadian Law

Download or read book Essays in the History of Canadian Law written by Philip Girard and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2011-12-15 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third volume of Essays in the History of Canadian Law presents thoroughly researched, original essays in Nova Scotian legal history. An introduction by the editors is followed by ten essays grouped into four main areas of study. The first is the legal system as a whole: essays in this section discuss the juridical failure of the Annapolis regime, present a collective biography of the province's superior court judiciary to 1900, and examine the property rights of married women in the nineteenth century. The second section deals with criminal law, exploring vagrancy laws in Halifax in the late nineteenth century, aspects of prisons and punishments before 1880, and female petty crime in Halifax. The third section, on family law, examines the issues of divorce from 1750 to 1890 and child custody from 1866 to 1910. Finally, two essays relate to law and the economy: one examines the Mines Arbitration Act of 1888; the other considers the question of private property and public resources in the context of the administrative control of water in Nova Scotia.
