Book Mazard s Version of Mason s Pali Grammar

Download or read book Mazard s Version of Mason s Pali Grammar written by Francis Mason and published by Eisel Mazard. This book was released on 2014-12-24 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A grammatical textbook for the Pali language with Burmese and Sinhalese script (alongside the Romanization), this edition offers a combination of the new (2015) and the old (1868), with some eccentric digressions into the Ashokan inscriptions, theories of the history and origins of the language, and anecdotes from an era when European archaeology and scholarship were (re-)discovering Theravada Buddhist philosophy. Mason's approach to the language is based in the ancient grammar of Kaccāyana, and reflects the first (pioneering) attempts of Europeans to explain the language to a western audience (often making comparisons to Latin, Greek and Sanskrit). This can be used in conjunction with the three other (free!) PDF textbooks for the Pali language available for download (at www.pali.pratyeka.org).

Book Duroiselle s Pali Grammar

Download or read book Duroiselle s Pali Grammar written by Charles Duroiselle and published by Eisel Mazard. This book was released on 2014-12-27 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Still used as a reference book (though rarely, if ever, as an in-classroom textbook). More than a hundred years after its first publication, Duroiselle's Practical Grammar remains a highly useful resource, and there are (as of yet) quite possibly no publications that can rival its compendious treatment of the subject matter, or that demonstrate a comparable level of conversance with the classical grammatical literature. This is a lasting testament to its assiduous author, and, perhaps, reflects the neglect of this area of study in the generations that followed after him

Book Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit Grammar and Dictionary 2 Vols

Download or read book Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit Grammar and Dictionary 2 Vols written by Franklin Edgerton and published by Motilal Banarsidass. This book was released on with total page 905 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first attempt at a description of the grammar and lexicon of Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit. Most North Indian Buddhist texts are composed in it. It is based primarily on an old Middle Indic vernacular not otherwise identifiable. But there seems reason to believe that it contains features that were borrowed from other Middle Indic dialects. In other words, even its Middle Indic aspects are dialectically somewhat mixed. Most strikingly, however, BHS was also extensively influenced by Sanskrit from the very beginning of the tradition as it has been transmitted to us, and increasingly as time went on. Many (especially later) products of this tradition have often, though misleadingly, been called simply 'Sanskrit', without qualification. In principle, the author has excluded from the grammar and dictionary all forms which are standard Sanskrit, and all words which are used in standard Sanskrit with the same meanings.

Book A New Course in Reading Pali

Download or read book A New Course in Reading Pali written by James W. Gair and published by Motilal Banarsidass. This book was released on 2017-01-01 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended and serve as an introduction to the reading of Pali texts. For that purpose, it uses authentic readings especially compiled for the purpose drawn largely from Theravada canonical works, both prose and poetry. The reading are in Roman script, and carefully graded for difficulty, but they have also been selected so that each of them is a meaningful and complete reading in itself, so as to introduce some basic concepts and ways of thought of Theravada Buddhism. This book thus offers and opportunity to become acquainted with the ways in which the teachings of the Buddha are embodied in the language, a sense that it impossible to determine from English translations. The book contains 12 lessons. Each of them has three parts: (1) a set of basic readings and an accompanying glossary, (2) grammatical notes on the forms in the less, and (3) a set of further readings with its own glossary. The further readings introduce no new grammatical points, but reinforce ones already presented and give further practice in them. The work concludes, fittingly, with the Buddhaês first sermon, The Dhammacakkapavattana Sutta. A cumulative glossary and index to the grammar is also provided. The text has been used successfully in its preliminary form at several universities, but it may also be used for self-study.

Book Psychology Development and Social Policy in India

Download or read book Psychology Development and Social Policy in India written by R. C. Tripathi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-08-05 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how and where psychology can engage itself in the framing of social policies for national as well as human development in India. Although the role that psychological knowledge can play in informing social policy decisions has been discussed for a long time, psychologists by and large have had little role in framing policy decisions related to such important domains as education, health, social justice and social inclusion. Policy makers, not only in India, but more or less everywhere have focused on interventions at the macro level, which has led them to ignore the root causes of the problems lying at the micro level. However, with the more humanistic approaches now being followed by economists and other social scientists, the person in society is slowly taking centrestage. Micro-level variables like happiness, the wellbeing of individuals and the social relationships within which people define themselves are becoming important. Therefore, this book discusses important psychological issues related to human development; particularly, health and education, social justice, social integration, environment and work organizations, besides focusing on some general issues relating to the logic of making social policies. It is a first-ever attempt in India to inform policy makers about how micro-variables can be a crucial factor to consider while framing social policies.
