Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can the church celebrate the eucharist in “contagious times,” like the coronavirus pandemic, and if so, how? In this book, Richard Burridge investigates a wide range of proposed options, both in the everyday physical world (fasting the eucharist, spiritual communion, solo and concelebrated communions, lay presidency, drive-in and drive-thru eucharists, and extended communion) and in cyberspace (computer services for avatars, broadcast eucharists online, and narrowcast communions using webinar software like Zoom). Along the way, he tackles the whole range of concepts of the church, ordination, and the eucharist. This book is essential reading for anyone desiring an informed and provocative guide to the theology and practice of holy communion in our challenging times.

Drawing on the Covid Realities research programme, and developed in partnership with parents and carers, it explores experiences of home-schooling, social security receipt and government, community and charitable support. This book sets out all that is wrong with the status quo, while also offering a powerful agenda for change. Download or read book Times of My Life Part Two written by Carole Payne and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2022-11-30 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sequel to Times of My Life: A Forest Gate Girl, this book carries the reader from a wedding in 1971, to the present day in Wiltshire, spanning 50 years of events that have punctuated the writer’s life up to now. It’s been a whole adventure and education for a girl from a fairly sheltered and strict family background, embarking on married life as a young wife which would soon take her away from the London she had known and loved to following her husband’s career all over the country. She would eventually achieve all the things she had dreamed of as a child. She would travel the world, meet fascinating people in far-flung places and make lifelong friends. She would have a successful career of her own. She would teach. Her love of music, theatre and performance would lead to one of her most thrilling and satisfying endeavours, running her own musical theatre group with amazing young people and watching them grow in skills and confidence. This memoir revisits those hectic days which tend to get lost in the fullness of time. Treasured old photos bring it all back. Most of all, she would have a long and happy married life, and be blessed with wonderful children and grandchildren. There were many adventures and so many reasons to celebrate along the way. But there were also trials and challenges, tragedies and sadness, as there are and have been for everyone, particularly during the Covid years. The best of times always outweighed the bad, however, and the happiest memories will be cherished forever.
Download or read book Islamic Algorithms written by Gary R. Bunt and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-04-04 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how Islam is digitally mediated at a time of technological change, enhanced digital literacy and proactive engagement in Islamic online content by authorities and influencers. What is the impact of this on societies, believers and understandings of Islam? Islamic Algorithms provides a thorough exploration of Cyber Islamic Environments (CIEs) through representations of significant historical and religious influences across contexts and diversities. This ranges from jinn and angels through to contemporary influencers. Gary R. Bunt raises issues of how digital content is embedded in contemporary understandings of Islam and their dissemination. Bunt shows how the interpretation of pivotal figures in Islam – including Muhammad and his family, scholars and imams – can be informed by new generations of digital influences, such as apps and social networking, which have become primary sources of information for many Muslims globally.
Download or read book Transnational Visual Activism for Women s Reproductive Rights written by Basia Sliwinska and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-09-30 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing on art practices that advocate, raise consciousness, and educate about the human right to reproductive health, this book analyses and compares forms of feminist artivism to interrogate bodily rights while closely examining the lived experiences of women and their right of free choice. The transnational framing engages with resurgent imperialist and colonial ambitions across global politics and with the attempts at disrupting these positionings by prioritising feminist care as instrumental for democracy and social justice. Key foci of this book include the ways in which arts activism operates, and its strategies and methods related to, for example, the types of artistic practice employed, approaches to dissemination and reach, and engaging the public. The analysis of these topics interrogates the potential of arts activism to work while other forms of activism may stumble, leading social change in thinking, practice and, finally, legislation. Countries covered include Finland, Poland, Portugal, Latvia, the United Kingdom, Chile, Brazil, the United States, and Australia. The book will be of interest to students and scholars studying art history, art theory and practice, gender studies, and women’s studies.
Download or read book Lockdown Diary written by Callum Ross and published by Europa Edizioni. This book was released on 2021-02-28 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: None of us could have imagined our lives would be struck by a global pandemic. Until it happened, and our lives suddenly changed. Everything slowly shuts down. No meetings, no parties, no movies, no sporting events, no restaurants. Fear of Covid-19 forces us to repudiate our most natural and ancestral instinct to socialise, to deny our innate desire to form strong, concrete, durable bonds with other human beings. So, when it’s impossible to satisfy such an ancient need, and we are forced to be apart from the world, what’s left? Callum Ross, in his darkest moments, discovered that communication has many faces, and one of those faces has the shape of a diary. With all the difficulties of a lockdown that lasted over a hundred days, he found the strength to face his fears and insecurity. When he couldn’t reach out to the world, he did what he could to survive: he reached out to himself. And, as he was locked inside his house, he didn’t just survive: his inner journey led him to a personal growth, to a renewal of his passion for writing, to a mature and complete consciousness of his dreams and hopes. Callum is unique but, at the same time, he is every one of us – he wants to live, to love, and be loved. By publishing his diary he proves that, even when it seems most unlikely, the will to connect and communicate with others is a powerful tool to face life’s hardships. Callum Ross lives in a small town in Fife, Scotland, with both his parents. Now in his 30’s, he has been writing since his early teens. Callum enjoys keeping a diary and has written throughout his experiences with depression and anxiety throughout lockdown. Many issues he addresses in his diary such as his father’s many trips into hospital, his crush on his work colleague Ben and the many restrictions imposed on the UK causing conflicts with friends and family. Callum became an uncle in February and strives to be the best uncle there is.

Download or read book My COVID Crucible written by George R. Crisp and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-12-22 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world was awash in the coronavirus pandemic, starting in March 2020 and is continuing today. This required people to make numerous adjustments, learn new ways of acting; gaining a new vocabulary and calling for our ongoing patience. COVID-19 became the dominant news story and consumed lives and resources beyond our expectations. It also shifted from a public health crisis to a political debate, further dividing our country. This memoir traces how this author dealt with the restrictions imposed to help us cope with the virus. What quotidian activities were unaffected, and what changes were made? This book reveals challenges that were met and interests that were pursued. Then, as one of the millions of people affected by this disease, the author describes becoming sick with COVID-19 and the hospitalization he subsequently experienced. The struggle to breathe and the care of medical personnel marked the long days of this crucible. In particular, the author found himself unable to pray in the throes of this illness. It was a jarring experience amid a life of faith. Even the at-home recovery is chronicled with the efforts required to return to an active life.

Download or read book Everyday Life in the Covid 19 Pandemic written by Nick Clarke and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-04-18 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How will the Covid-19 pandemic be remembered? What did it mean to people? How did it feel? This book provides a compelling account of the pandemic as it was experienced in the UK. Everyday Life in the Covid-19 Pandemic is a democratic history based on the 5,000 diaries collected by Mass Observation on 12 May 2020. It is a record of what many of these diarists wrote, from a wide range of positions, in a variety of voices and on a wealth of different subjects. The book shines a light on their lives on the day in question, their experiences during the first two months of the pandemic, and their hopes and fears for the coming months and years. The diaries capture much of everyday life in the pandemic for millions of people in the UK and beyond: the activities, events, and rituals (from funerals to working from home); the sites and stages (from shops to Zoom); the roles and categories (from 'key workers' to 'vulnerable groups'); the frames (from luck to 'the new normal'); and the moods (from anxiety to grief). In these diaries, we see what people did when the pandemic arrived in the UK, but also what people thought and felt – how they interpreted the pandemic experience and gave it meaning. We see both how the nation responded and the nation who responded. The book also includes two essays offering expert contextualisation of the diaries and discussion of their value for narrating the pandemic and presenting everyday life.
Download or read book Crowds Community and Contagion in Contemporary Britain written by Sarah Lowndes and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-09-30 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crowds, Community and Contagion in Contemporary Britain presents the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity to re-assess the neoliberal politics, xenophobia and racism that have undermined community cohesion in the United Kingdom since 1979, and which have continued largely unchecked through the last four decades. Guided by three interconnected ideas used throughout to scrutinise the meaning of culture as a way of life – Welsh cultural theorist Raymond Williams’ structure of feeling, Jamaican-British sociologist Stuart Hall’s conception of the conjuncture and Belgian political philosopher Chantal Mouffe’s agonistic pluralism – Sarah Lowndes finds that a renewed sense of mutual regard and collective responsibility are necessary to meet the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. She begins by reflecting on public gatherings in Britain from 1945 to 2019, moving on to analyse five key examples of public gatherings affected by the pandemic in 2020 onwards: Chinese New Year, the UEFA Champions League Final, VE Day street parties, Black Lives Matter demonstrations, and the cancellation of Eid ul-Adha celebrations. A thorough examination of how ideas proliferate and spread through our society, public sphere and collective consciousness, this book will appeal to scholars and upper-level students of cultural studies, cultural history, sociology and politics.

This book was released on 2023-12-11 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through a childhood characterised by mystical experiences under the most difficult life circumstances, the Master "unrecognised" accompanies His disciple's spiritual search to India, who takes refuge in meditation and retreat, until the brightly radiating, transcendental spiritual revelations of the Heart-Master, as the Divine Person, the Maha Purusha, the promised God-Man, in the Old University of Freiburg im Breisgau. The search ends from one moment to the next and the disciple's life takes an unexpected turn and undergoes a profound transformation. In the eternal relationship between Heart-Master Avatar Adi Da and His devotee, the path of Avatar Adi Da's 7th stage of Perfect Realisation is revealed step by step. After many years of waiting and countless visions, the author finally reaches the longed-for island of Naitauba. All his expectations and ideas about the ashram of a Maha Siddha and the island community are disappointed on all levels. He is confronted with an insider cult of the first generation of devotees. The wisdom teaching of the Heart Master has fallen prey to a revision and a "monarchist" insider cult, behind which the first generation of disciples hides with high priestly words and empty proclamations. Despite this difficult and unexpected circumstance, the disciple receives the Transcendental Spiritual Revelations and teachings of his Heart-Master. The Transcendental Spiritual Reality emerges as the source of all beings and things in the face of the greatest possible failure, confrontation with the fatal insider cult of a spiritual community, exile and banishment.
