Book Identification of Dynamic Systems

Download or read book Identification of Dynamic Systems written by Rolf Isermann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-22 with total page 705 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Precise dynamic models of processes are required for many applications, ranging from control engineering to the natural sciences and economics. Frequently, such precise models cannot be derived using theoretical considerations alone. Therefore, they must be determined experimentally. This book treats the determination of dynamic models based on measurements taken at the process, which is known as system identification or process identification. Both offline and online methods are presented, i.e. methods that post-process the measured data as well as methods that provide models during the measurement. The book is theory-oriented and application-oriented and most methods covered have been used successfully in practical applications for many different processes. Illustrative examples in this book with real measured data range from hydraulic and electric actuators up to combustion engines. Real experimental data is also provided on the Springer webpage, allowing readers to gather their first experience with the methods presented in this book. Among others, the book covers the following subjects: determination of the non-parametric frequency response, (fast) Fourier transform, correlation analysis, parameter estimation with a focus on the method of Least Squares and modifications, identification of time-variant processes, identification in closed-loop, identification of continuous time processes, and subspace methods. Some methods for nonlinear system identification are also considered, such as the Extended Kalman filter and neural networks. The different methods are compared by using a real three-mass oscillator process, a model of a drive train. For many identification methods, hints for the practical implementation and application are provided. The book is intended to meet the needs of students and practicing engineers working in research and development, design and manufacturing.

Book Stochastic Processes and Filtering Theory

Download or read book Stochastic Processes and Filtering Theory written by Andrew H. Jazwinski and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unified treatment of linear and nonlinear filtering theory presents material previously available only in journals, and in terms accessible to engineering students. Its sole prerequisites are advanced calculus, the theory of ordinary differential equations, and matrix analysis. Although theory is emphasized, the text discusses numerous practical applications as well. Taking the state-space approach to filtering, this text models dynamical systems by finite-dimensional Markov processes, outputs of stochastic difference, and differential equations. Starting with background material on probability theory and stochastic processes, the author introduces and defines the problems of filtering, prediction, and smoothing. He presents the mathematical solutions to nonlinear filtering problems, and he specializes the nonlinear theory to linear problems. The final chapters deal with applications, addressing the development of approximate nonlinear filters, and presenting a critical analysis of their performance.

Book Advanced Methods of Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Systems Analysis

Download or read book Advanced Methods of Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Systems Analysis written by David D'Argenio and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume records the proceedings of the Workshop on Advanced Meth ods of Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Systems Analysis, organized by the Biomedical Simulations Resource in May 1990. The meeting brought together over 120 investigators from a number of disciplines, including clinical pharmacology, clinical pharmacy, pharmaceutical science, biomathematics, statistics and biomed ical engineering with the purpose of providing a high-level forum to facilitate the exchange of ideas between basic and clinical research scientists, experimentalists and modelers working on problems in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. It has been my experience that in many areas of biomedical research, when a meeting of this type is held, the general attitude of those experimentalists willing to attend is one of extreme skepticism: as a group they feel that mathematical modeling has little to offer them in furthering their understanding of the particular biological processes they are studying. This is certainly not the prevailing view when the topic is pharmacokinetics and drug response. Quite the contrary, the use of mathemati cal modeling and associated data analysis and computational methods has been a central feature of pharmacokinetics almost from its beginnings. In fact, the field has borrowed techniques of modeling from other disciplines including applied math ematics, statistics and engineering, in an effort to better describe and understand the processes of drug disposition and drug response.

Book Control and Dynamic Systems V20

Download or read book Control and Dynamic Systems V20 written by C.T. Leonides and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control and Dynamic Systems, Volume 20 is a collection of papers that discusses the techniques and technology of the application of nonlinear filters and Kalman filters. This collection deals with issues on computation techniques along with many examples of applications of these filters. One paper reviews the bias-separated estimation theory with some alternate derivations by investigators which can provide further extensions. Another paper shows that methods and techniques used in estimating stochastic parameters that have been derived from conventional stochastic operations are effective in various applications. Other papers describe the many advanced applications of Kalman filters and nonlinear estimators in aerospace systems such as the application of adaptive Kalman filtering for aided strapdown navigation systems. As an example, a software package can test the technique of model switching; as well as other applications of the methods of adaptive Kalman filtering for aided strapdown navigation systems. Total system development of ballistic missiles concerns system-level understanding that uses modern analytic methods including applications of filtering and smoothing theory. This book can prove useful for people working in industrial process control or in econometrics, as well as nuclear physicists.

Book Dynamic Linear Models with R

Download or read book Dynamic Linear Models with R written by Giovanni Petris and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-12 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: State space models have gained tremendous popularity in recent years in as disparate fields as engineering, economics, genetics and ecology. After a detailed introduction to general state space models, this book focuses on dynamic linear models, emphasizing their Bayesian analysis. Whenever possible it is shown how to compute estimates and forecasts in closed form; for more complex models, simulation techniques are used. Many detailed examples based on real data sets are provided to show how to set up a specific model, estimate its parameters, and use it for forecasting. All the code used in the book is available online. No prior knowledge of Bayesian statistics or time series analysis is required, although familiarity with basic statistics and R is assumed.

Book Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning

Download or read book Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning written by King-Sun Fu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the Proceedings of the US-Japan Seminar on Learning Process in Control Systems. The seminar, held in Nagoya, Japan, from August 18 to 20, 1970, was sponsored by the US-Japan Cooperative Science Program, jointly supported by the National Science Foundation and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. The full texts of all the presented papers except two t are included. The papers cover a great variety of topics related to learning processes and systems, ranging from pattern recognition to systems identification, from learning control to biological modelling. In order to reflect the actual content of the book, the present title was selected. All the twenty-eight papers are roughly divided into two parts--Pattern Recognition and System Identification and Learning Process and Learning Control. It is sometimes quite obvious that some papers can be classified into either part. The choice in these cases was strictly the editor's in order to keep a certain balance between the two parts. During the past decade there has been a considerable growth of interest in problems of pattern recognition and machine learn ing. In designing an optimal pattern recognition or control system, if all the a priori information about the process under study is known and can be described deterministically, the optimal system is usually designed by deterministic optimization techniques.
