Book excerpt: Background The congenital lack of a maxillary lateral incisor is a very demanding situation because of the aesthetic impact. A perfect integration of the prosthesis in the smile is mandatory in order to achieve a successful treatment. A preliminary orthodontic therapy is often required in order to achieve a correct space condition for the placement of an implant.Implant rehabilitation has to be conducted at the end of the craniofacial growth and after completing the orthodontic treatment.Aim/Hypothesis The aim of this work was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes of implants used to replace congenitally missing lateral incisors after orthodontic treatment . Aesthetic outomes have been evaluated using the pink esthetic score.Materials and Methods (1000 characters maximum)The patients were undergoing active orthodontic treatment in recent years, the purpose of which was to close the remaining space between his upper anterior teeth and open the space between the central incisor and the canine.The patients were in permanent dentition with bilateral congenitally missing maxillary lateral incisors confirmed by the panoramic and periapical radiographs.The implants were allowed to osseointegrate for a period of 6 months, a final impression was made using putty wash technique and a final prosthesis was fabricated and cemented after checking the aesthetics.All implants were clinically and radiologically examined during 1 year of follow up to assess implant survival, complications and hard and soft tissue conditions.Resultats All implants showed stable osseointegration, with absence of pain or suppuration, absence of clinically detectable implant mobility absence of peri-implant radiolucency during the first year of function and absence of prosthetic complications at the implantu2013abutment interface. Excellent aesthetics and emergence profile were obtained after 1 year of follow-up.Conclusions and Clinical Implications The placement of single-tooth implants for rehabilitation of congenitally missing lateral incisors after orthodontic treatment seems to represent a successful procedure showing:-High implant-crown success-The maintenance of a stable bone level around implants-High aesthetic outcomes.
