  • Pages : 224 pages

Download or read book Adult Faith written by Diarmuid O'Murchu and published by Orbis Books. This book was released on 2010 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This relatively new culture of the adult faith-seeker originated in the closing decades of the twentieth century as developmental psychology highlighted the changing nature of growth and maturity at different life-stages. Accompanied by the information explosion, adult people particularly began to ask questions for which they sought adult answers. The co-dependency of earlier times, expecting adults to simply accept what religious authorities taught, is alien to adult religious maturity. Adult faith has arrived at a new threshold, requiring novel approaches and strategies in the religious development of adult people. Diarmuid O'Murchu charts this evolutionary development, highlighting dimensions of conventional religion which no longer inspire or offer hope, along with those that nurture and mature, and sheds new light on the spiritual horizons which contemporary adults seek to embrace. The result is a path-breaking book that empowers adult faith-seekers to confidently grow in wisdom and in grace, and that enables the church to use its resources to strengthen the faith of its people at a time of great change in how people think about religion.

Book excerpt: Traditionally, Christian churches have taught that the validity of Judaism came to an end with the emergence of Christianity. But in the last half-century, many Christians have reputiated this teaching and have affirmed the abiding validity of Judaism. Consequently, they have had to reevaluate Christian self-understanding in relation to Judaism. In Faith Transformed, Christian scholars who have been at the forefront of Christian-Jewish relations share how their encounters with Jews and Judaism have transformed their understanding and practice of Christianity. They reveal how their Christian faith has been profoundly enriched by drawing inspiration from the Jewish tradition.

Beck proposes to reject these texts as inauthentic or to minimize their importance by placing them in footnotes, and to alter the translation of the phrase "the Jews."

Book Eden and the Individual Christianity for the 21St Century

Download or read book Eden and the Individual Christianity for the 21St Century written by Emil Mihelich and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006-07-05 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even more than we might realize, the Garden of Eden story has supplied the foundation for Western civilization ever since the Roman Emperor Theodosius the Great granted the orthodox version of Christianity imperial support in the fourth century AD. Faced with the scientific and economic challenges of the 21st century, however, it's time to revisit our traditional understanding of our Christian heritage. St. Augustine's monumental work, "The City of God," built on his original sin interpretation of the Garden of Eden story, traditionally defined the role of the responsible individual living within the resulting, orthodox structure. But what is the role of such an individual living in an era that has witnessed the waning of the power and influence of that institutional authority-the authority built on Augustine's persuasive interpretation of the events described in the Garden of Eden story? Without throwing the baby out with the bath water, and by paying homage to Augustinian sacrifice and commitment to belief, Eden and the Individual: Christianity for the 21st Century explores that question. In the process it offers creative conclusions directed toward enhancing the meaning, and value, of individual lives. Given a fresh sense of purpose, every individual can then work toward creating, and preserving, the order and structure that have governed collective Western life. "In this awe-inspiring chronicle, indeed revelation of Christianity Misapplied, Mr. Mihelich, courageously, has given us a pearl to keep for ourselves. And we must." Ben Swearson, eBook Reviews Weekly

For just as the powerful buck on the front cover matured from a fawn like the one above, so timid Christians can, by diligent study, mature into confident and powerful witnesses for Jesus Christ. Written by a retired engineer and former atheist with 55 years of experience studying and photographing deer, the book weaves together biblical passages, photography and deer stories into parables that biblically unpack a rich and compelling compendium of the reformed understanding of Scripture. Parables of the Deer is also a succinct, intellectually robust apologetic and evangelistic resource that will equip Christians to become better and bolder witnesses. Even atheists, agnostics and adherents of other religions, who sincerely desire to plumb the depths of Christianity’s timeless truths, will find Parables of the Deer to be a comprehensive exposition of Christianity that will, by God’s gracious providence, result in many coming to saving faith in Jesus Christ.

This book was released on 2012-11-01 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “CHRISTIANITY Q & A” – Simple Answers to Life's Questions D. R. Hill & Mary Alice Booth {2012)CHRIST CENTRIC ANSWERS to “AFFAIRS OF THE HEART” - this riveting Bible Study and serious theological writing of the twenty-first century, co-written by Christian Authors D. R. Hill & Mary Alice Booth, is a masterfully written and guided study of Christianity that introduces a new, twenty-first century concept for studying God's Word; engaging a CHRIST-CENTRIC LEARNING MODEL while employing rote learning techniques to facilitate modular learning that creates a biblical and doctrinally sound “Pathway to Christian Maturity.”“This study is a MUST for Christians of all ages – and every age!”The most remarkable aspect of this new CHRIST-CENTRIC LEARNING MODEL is its APPLICABILITY TO EVERYONE! The model promulgates Bible study that engages students of ALL AGES and for EVERY AGE; from CHILDREN {as young as Kindergarten} - parents and teachers use rote methods of MEMORIZATION to teach the children God's Holy Word; NEW CHRISTIANS - receive ANSWERS to the relevant issues of daily living; and the “MATURE” Christians {well grounded in their faith} build further upon their foundational understanding of Doctrine and God's Holy Scriptures. The study also avoids pitfalls of secularism and modern concepts inspired by differing DENOMINATIONS by remaining steadfast ONLY to God's Holy Word: God's Holy Word is inerrant and the only acceptable reference herein.God's unerring Word as its foundation, NOT denominational teachings.God's Scriptures {chapter & verse} validate every Q & A assertion herein. This INSTRUCTIONAL motif immerses readers in serious study of Christianity and places a valuable tool in the hands of children, new Christians, parents, teachers, Elders, Pastors, and college professors charged with teaching courses in Christianity. Denominations argue in perpetuity over the theology of the “RAPTURE.” Consider this: Whichever side of this argument you choose to accept, this study of God's Holy Word shall be EITHER your:Pre-Rapture Study Guide OR Post-Rapture Survival Guide!“May it serve as the former that you should be spared from the latter!”So grab your Holy Bible, prepare your heart and mind and begin your journey!” Walk with our Lord Jesus Christ along your “Pathway to Christian Maturity.
