Download or read book Listen to Him written by Keith Birchley and published by Latimer Trust. This book was released on 2015-08-31 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays collected here originated as papers given at the Annual Moore College School of Theology for 2014. Like Matthew's Gospel itself, they show a concern to place the good news about Jesus Christ in the context of God's unfolding plan of salvation throughout the centuries. The history of Israel contains both promise and pattern that point ahead to the coming of Jesus Christ as the Messiah who will 'save his people from their sins'. The essays also reflect a concern to speak into the context of the contemporary proclamation of that good news. When the risen Christ sent his first apostles to make disciples of all nations, the good news began to be preached widely to both Jew and Gentile. That good news still continues to be proclaimed into today's world, bringing hope to all those who sit under death's shadow. In their own small way, these essays seek to further thattask. For Emmanuel is come. God with us. The contributors are Keith Birchley, Peter Bolt, Ben Cooper, Matthew Jensen, Jeff Read, Bill Salier, Michael Stead, Jane Tooher and Paul Williamson."

Book The Vision of Matthew

    Book Details:
  • Author : John P. Meier
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2004-09-30
  • ISBN : 1725212390
  • Pages : 280 pages

Download or read book The Vision of Matthew written by John P. Meier and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2004-09-30 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume Father Meier explores how Matthew remodeled the form, the Christological message, and the moral demand of the gospel. Part I shows Matthew's church in crisis. It was experiencing a shift in its Christian existence: from a narrow Jewish-Christian past to a universal Gentile future. To preserve yet reinterpret the particularistic traditions of that Jewish-Christian past, Matthew drew up a model of salvation history and then reshaped the gospel message to fit it. Part II offers a mini-commentary on the whole gospel to illustrate this reshaping of the message. Pericope by pericope, Matthew presents Jesus as Son of God and Son of Man, and therefore as 'the' definitive teacher of his Church. Indeed, the nexus between Christ and his Church emerges as the outstanding characteristic of Matthew's gospel. Part III studies Matthew's construction of a unified moral vision on the basis of this connection between Christ and Church. The basic stance of Jesus and his disciples towards the Mosaic Law is one of fulfillment - a 'prophetic' fulfillment which involves at times a deepening of, at times the abrogation of, the letter of the Law.

This book was released on 2020-11-10 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER An urgent primer on race and racism, from the host of the viral hit video series “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man” “You cannot fix a problem you do not know you have.” So begins Emmanuel Acho in his essential guide to the truths Americans need to know to address the systemic racism that has recently electrified protests in all fifty states. “There is a fix,” Acho says. “But in order to access it, we’re going to have to have some uncomfortable conversations.” In Uncomfortable Conversations With a Black Man, Acho takes on all the questions, large and small, insensitive and taboo, many white Americans are afraid to ask—yet which all Americans need the answers to, now more than ever. With the same open-hearted generosity that has made his video series a phenomenon, Acho explains the vital core of such fraught concepts as white privilege, cultural appropriation, and “reverse racism.” In his own words, he provides a space of compassion and understanding in a discussion that can lack both. He asks only for the reader’s curiosity—but along the way, he will galvanize all of us to join the antiracist fight.

Book He Is Manifest

    Book Details:
  • Author : Troy Conner
  • Publisher : WestBow Press
  • Release : 2017-05-02
  • ISBN : 1512780723
  • Pages : 87 pages

Download or read book He Is Manifest written by Troy Conner and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2017-05-02 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea for this book came from Exodus 3:14: And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? What shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. This verse is used to identify God as the great I Am, and truly He is the great I Am! For times sake, God couldnt tell Moses hundreds of names, so he just said, I am that I Am! However, the emphasis should be on the word that because God has so many names and His entire splendor cannot be described with just He is I Am! You will find within this manifest a list of scriptures with each caption describing who He is to encourage you daily. This is the second book in the He Is series. The first is He Is: God Is, Jesus Is, the Holy Spirit Is, and now its He Is . . . Manifest. The third will be He Is: Study Guide and the fourth is He Is Come. Also, it is my desire to have a CD and video in the future. Please pray for the mind of God in this endeavor and the funding for this accomplishment. May God richly bless each of you as you enjoy this resource.

Book Life study of Matthew

  • Publisher : Living Stream Ministry
  • Release : 2023-09-26
  • ISBN : 1536031771
  • Pages : 815 pages

Download or read book Life study of Matthew written by Witness Lee and published by Living Stream Ministry. This book was released on 2023-09-26 with total page 815 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gospel of Matthew reveals that Christ is God incarnated to be the King-Savior who came to establish the kingdom of the heavens by saving His people from sin through His death and resurrection. Christ, as the son of David according to the flesh, came as the proper heir to the throne of David; as God incarnate, He came as the first God-man. God named Him Jesus, yet He was called Emmanuel (“God with us”) by men. As the new King, Christ was recommended by John, anointed by the Spirit, and tested by the devil. Having defeated the devil, He began His ministry to establish the kingdom of the heavens. Matthew presents the kingdom of the heavens in three aspects, the reality of the kingdom of the heavens (5:1—7:29), the outward appearance of the kingdom of the heavens (13:1-52), and the manifestation of the kingdom of the heavens (24:1—25:46). Author Witness Lee reveals that the reality of the kingdom is simply the King Himself, sown into humanity as the seed of the kingdom. This kingdom seed, containing the kingdom life and nature, will grow and develop in the believers, constituting them the reality of the kingdom, until it is brought to full maturity as the manifestation of the kingdom. In particular, it explains the crucial difference between the kingdom of the heavens and the kingdom of God, and presents a clear understanding of the Lord’s prophecies concerning Israel, the church, and the nations at the consummation of the age.

Luther drew on the Gospel of Matthew when developing edifying sermons as well as teasing out valuable ethical insights for the Christian engagement in society. While his immediate audience was in Wittenberg, the Gospel of Matthew has continued to be a resource for the church's mission. In this collection of essays, internationally renowned theologians reflect on the ongoing reception of the Gospel of Matthew from the Reformation until today, and how, in light of the Lutheran interpretive traditions, it remains a valuable resource for the church as it seeks to respond to contemporary concerns in its mission to the whole world.

Book The Emergence of Subjectivity in the Ancient and Medieval World

Download or read book The Emergence of Subjectivity in the Ancient and Medieval World written by Jon Stewart and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-03-24 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Emergence of Subjectivity in the Ancient and Medieval World: An Interpretation of Western Civilization represents a combination of different genres: cultural history, philosophical anthropology, and textbook. It follows a handful of different but interrelated themes through more than a dozen texts that were written over a period of several millennia and, by means of an analysis of these texts, presents a theory of the development of Western civilization from antiquity to the Middle Ages. The main line of argument traces the various self-conceptions of different cultures as they developed historically, reflecting different views of what it is to be human. The thesis of the volume is that through examination of these changes we can discern the gradual emergence of what we today call inwardness, subjectivity, and individual freedom. As human civilization took its first tenuous steps, it had a very limited conception of the individual. Instead, the dominant principle was that of the wider group: the family, clan, or people. Only in the course of history did the idea of what we now know as individuality begin to emerge, and it took millennia for this idea to be fully recognized and developed. The conception of human beings as having a sphere of inwardness and subjectivity subsequently had a sweeping impact on all aspects of culture, including philosophy, religion, law, and art: indeed, this notion largely constitutes what is today referred to as modernity. It is easy to lose sight of the fact that this modern conception of human subjectivity was not simply something given, but rather the result of a long process of historical and cultural development.

Book The Spirit in the Epistles

Download or read book The Spirit in the Epistles written by Witness Lee and published by Living Stream Ministry. This book was released on 2017-03-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Romans to the seven epistles in the book of Revelation, the life-giving Spirit, spoken of in 1 Corinthians 15:45, is the general subject of all the New Testament Epistles. In the Gospels the Lord Jesus is presented as the Word who became flesh, while in the Epistles He is presented as the One who became the life-giving Spirit in resurrection for us to receive, experience, and enjoy. In The Spirit in the Epistles Witness Lee speaks of the believers being one spirit with the Lord, that is, of the mingling of the divine Spirit with our regenerated human spirit. Since the Spirit is the essence of the revelation in the Epistles, Witness Lee also emphasizes our practical need to take Christ as life by turning to the indwelling Spirit, by setting our mind on the spirit, and by living and walking in the spirit that we may live in the Lord, who is the Spirit.
