Book Matter Energy and Thermodynamics

Download or read book Matter Energy and Thermodynamics written by George Parris and published by . This book was released on 2021-03-07 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are three non-mutually exclusive reasons to read this book: (i) you love science; (ii) you do science; and/or (iii) you teach science. As a teacher of general chemistry, I have found myself teaching things from modern textbooks that have been (by the year 2000) rehashed many times by generations of textbook authors and college professors. Over the years, much of the detail of history has been lost; some of the important caveats associated with the original research have been stripped away; and the material has become dogmatic.Today, it is hard to believe that in 1900 learned scholars could debate the existence of atoms and molecules. Ironically, if Albert Einstein had done nothing else, his 1905 paperOn the Movement of Small Particles Suspended in Stationary Liquids Required by the Molecular-Kinetic Theory of Heat. Annalen der Physik 17 (1905): 549-560.would have been regarded as important to proving the existence of molecules, atoms and our modern theory of thermodynamics. Modern textbooks generally do not spend much time discussing how we made this critical passage from the ignorance of 1600 to the enlightenment of 2000; and at one time, I was a strong believer that it was a waste of time to consider the history (complete with personal tribulations, priority disputes, missteps, false starts and general confusion) of scientific study. But I have come to believe that we now accept some ideas as "facts" and have not thoroughly questioned the hypotheses of renowned scientists. In this informal history (compiled largely from popular secondary sources), I am not going to deeply criticize the pathway or results that have been used to construct our modern view of matter and energy, but I did want to give the general reader (and interested student) an outline of how we got here. Hopefully, this approach will convert the pillars of modern chemistry and physics from infallible icons into imperfect people with imperfect hypotheses that we should feel free (indeed, obligated) to question and challenge. Besides that, perhaps looking at how these people came to their discoveries will suggest methods of reasoning and investigation to modern researchers.

Book Thermodynamics And Equations Of State For Matter From Ideal Gas To Quark gluon Plasma

Download or read book Thermodynamics And Equations Of State For Matter From Ideal Gas To Quark gluon Plasma written by Vladimr E Fortov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2016-03-24 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monograph presents a comparative analysis of different thermodynamic models of the equations of state. The basic ideological premises of the theoretical methods and the experiment are considered. The principal attention is on the description of states that are of greatest interest for the physics of high energy concentrations which are either already attained or can be reached in the near future in controlled terrestrial conditions, or are realized in astrophysical objects at different stages of their evolution. Ultra-extreme astrophysical and nuclear-physical applications are also analyzed where the thermodynamics of matter is affected substantially by relativism, high-power gravitational and magnetic fields, thermal radiation, transformation of nuclear particles, nucleon neutronization, and quark deconfinement. The book is intended for a wide range of specialists engaged in the study of the equations of state of matter and high energy density physics, as well as for senior students and postgraduates.

Book Matter Energy and Mentality

Download or read book Matter Energy and Mentality written by Richard Rydon and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-10-17 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is brief and daring. Matter, Energy and Mentality: Exploring Metaphysical Reality by Richard Rydon is a book of speculative non-fiction. It is something to sink your metaphysical teeth into. It covers the relationships between Matter, Energy and Mentality, using Energy Redistribution (Unnecessary Action) as a common feature in the Universe. The book should appeal, especially, to those of a mathematical bent, where a number of descriptive equations are presented in an attempt to describe certain elusive aspects of Reality. The book also includes some more-detailed sections, which consider the relationships between Information and Entropy in various Systems.

Book Thermal Properties of Matter

Download or read book Thermal Properties of Matter written by Joe Khachan and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2018-02-20 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ancient Greeks believed that all matter was composed of four elements: earth, water, air, and fire. By a remarkable coincidence (or perhaps not), today we know that there are four states of matter: solids (e.g. earth), liquids (e.g. water), gasses (e.g. air) and plasma (e.g. ionized gas produced by fire). The plasma state is beyond the scope of this book and we will only look at the first three states. Although on the microscopic level all matter is made from atoms or molecules, everyday experience tells us that the three states have very different properties. The aim of this book is to examine some of these properties and the underlying physics.

Book What s the Matter with Energy

Download or read book What s the Matter with Energy written by Joseph Y. Hui and published by . This book was released on 2015-11-01 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a story of space, time, matter, energy and energy conversion. Written by Joseph Y. Hui, aka Solar Man, this book survey the nature of energy, its expansion in spacetime since the Big Bang, its condensation as matter, and its exertion as different kinds of forces, and its manifestation as different kinds of energies. The bulk of the book is about energy conversion and its impact on the environment. There are five major sources of energy conversion into each other: motion, electromagnetic, light, chemical and heat. We introduce each topic on 2 page layout of scientists. They may have discovered and explained the physical phenomenon. They may have created the invention of energy collection, storage, conversion and use. Many of the inventions are due to Solar Man in his quest to solve the three E problems: Energy, Environment, and Education. His inventions involve water, energy, food, information, and transportation with acronym we-fit. The book is also written as a prototype for Solar Wonderland, a science amusement park for educating on the 3E's. Solar Man's motto is "Live a comfortable but sustainable life". Solar Man also plan to commercialize his inventions by Monarch Power, his R&D company.

Book Cells Molecules and Mechanisms

Download or read book Cells Molecules and Mechanisms written by Eric Wong and published by Axolotl Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2009 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Yet another cell and molecular biology book? At the very least, you would think that if I was going to write a textbook, I should write one in an area that really needs one instead of a subject that already has multiple excellent and definitive books. So, why write this book, then? First, it's a course that I have enjoyed teaching for many years, so I am very familiar with what a student really needs to take away from this class within the time constraints of a semester. Second, because it is a course that many students take, there is a greater opportunity to make an impact on more students' pocketbooks than if I were to start off writing a book for a highly specialized upper- level course. And finally, it was fun to research and write, and can be revised easily for inclusion as part of our next textbook, High School Biology."--Open Textbook Library.
