Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a young fairy named Matilda struggles to come of age on her own, she realizes that she must trust her gran's advice and just put her desires out to the universe. Little does she know that a premonition she had of an impressive bridge will take her from her home in Ireland all the way to the city of Boston. Being a small fairy in such a big world leaves the universe plenty of opportunities to manufacture a wonderful and unexpected adventure for her, and as she learns to let go and trust the process, she finds encouragement from some unlikely places and gains courage for her adventure. As she creates a new home for herself in a rich and vibrant fairy garden in a Boston suburb, she finds some of her greatest strengths lie in her optimistic spirit. Even so, she longs for the company of other stray fairies to share her new garden space with and eventually meets Greta-an old fairy who is lost, afraid and in very tattered conditions. Matilda and Greta's unexpected friendship sets them each on a wonderful new adventure in their fairy garden where food is plentiful, friends are close at hand, and the future seems wide open for hope.

Why have so many people from all backgrounds and with all kinds of tastes found The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo so riveting? · What are the speculations---and what is the truth---about Stieg Larsson's tragic death at age fifty, just before the publication of his novels, and the bitter battle over his legacy? · What changes were made in the plots and translations of the novels after Larsson's death---and why? · How did Larsson's early interest in science fiction and American and British crime writers feed into his creation of the Millennium trilogy? · What were Larsson's ideas for the fourth book, and are there any clues to the plots he imagined for his ten-book series? Will we meet Lisbeth's twin sister, Camilla, or any of her other seven siblings that Zalachenko tells her she has? · Does Lisbeth Salander give feminism a new definition? · What will happen in the contentious battle between Stieg Larsson's life partner, Eva Gabrielsson, and his father and brother over the future of the books, as well as the billion dollars at stake in his legacy? · Who are the emerging Swedish crime writers we should pay attention to now? · And much, much more!

Book Food in the Novels of Thomas Hardy

Download or read book Food in the Novels of Thomas Hardy written by Kim Salmons and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-31 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the role of food in the life and works of Thomas Hardy, analysing the social, political and historical context of references to meals, eating and food production during the nineteenth century. It demonstrates how Hardy’s personal relationship to the ‘rustic’ food of his childhood provides the impetus for his fiction, and provides a historical breakdown of the key factors which influenced food regulation and production from the beginning of the nineteenth century to the fin de siècle. This study explores how a sub-textual narrative of food references in The Trumpet-Major and Under the Greenwood Tree captures the instability of the pre-industrial era, and how food and eating act as a means of delineating and exploring ‘character’ and ‘environment’ in The Mayor of Casterbridge. As well as this, it considers rural femininity and the myth of the feminine pastoral in Tess of the d’Urbervilles, and charts the anxieties brought about by the shift in population from a rural to a predominantly urban one and its impact on food production in Jude the Obscure.

Grown-ups can also enjoy reading 'Castle Magic' Pamela Koutroulides As a child, I had bad health and spent 3 years in hospital totally separated from my Mum and Dad. Visits were few. I retreated into my own world as there was no adult to share with. I learnt to read and read avidly. Sometimes I told stories to other children. I didn't mix with ordinary children until I came out of hospital at 8. I was rather clumsy at it When I grew up I became a social worker, wife, mother and grandmother, chesty illnesses following me throughout.. I often spent holidays in a flat in an English castle. It was there that the seeds of this story grew. In my fifties, I journeyed into my imagination and began painting, using pattern and bright colour. During this time Stephen, the hero of Castle Magic, was born in my imagination. In my sixties I began writing, slowly discovering my own true voice, and began the greatest adventure of my life. Stephens talents, like mine were enhanced by his circumstances, sensitivity revealing the magic and wonder of the world around. There is magic also within and Stephen wants to encourage everyone to find it. www.annepoltera.com 50% profits from this book go to 'Demelza', a charity providing hospice care for children.
