Book Mathematical Statistics

Download or read book Mathematical Statistics written by Johann Pfanzagl and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-23 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a detailed description of the development of statistical theory. In the mid twentieth century, the development of mathematical statistics underwent an enduring change, due to the advent of more refined mathematical tools. New concepts like sufficiency, superefficiency, adaptivity etc. motivated scholars to reflect upon the interpretation of mathematical concepts in terms of their real-world relevance. Questions concerning the optimality of estimators, for instance, had remained unanswered for decades, because a meaningful concept of optimality (based on the regularity of the estimators, the representation of their limit distribution and assertions about their concentration by means of Anderson’s Theorem) was not yet available. The rapidly developing asymptotic theory provided approximate answers to questions for which non-asymptotic theory had found no satisfying solutions. In four engaging essays, this book presents a detailed description of how the use of mathematical methods stimulated the development of a statistical theory. Primarily focused on methodology, questionable proofs and neglected questions of priority, the book offers an intriguing resource for researchers in theoretical statistics, and can also serve as a textbook for advanced courses in statisticc.

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since my days as a student, economists, doctors, physiologists, biologists, and engineers have come to me with queries of a statistical nature. This book is the product of my long interest in practical solutions to such problems. Study of the literature and my own ideas have repeat edly led me to improved methods, which will be established here and applied to instructive examples taken from the natural and social sciences. Thus, I hope to help the reader avoid the many fruitless direc tions in which I worked at first. The examples are not artificially con structed from theoretical considerations but are instead taken from real situations; consequently, many of the examples require detailed explana tion. The presentation of the basic mathematical concepts is, I hope, as brief as possible without becoming incomprehensible. Some rather long theoretical arguments have been necessary, but, whenever possible, references for the more difficult proofs have been made to good text books already in existence. There would be no point in developing again the mathematical theories which have been presented clearly and in detail by Kolmogorov, Caratheodory, and Cramer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical Theory of Probability and Statistics focuses on the contributions and influence of Richard von Mises on the processes, methodologies, and approaches involved in the mathematical theory of probability and statistics. The publication first elaborates on fundamentals, general label space, and basic properties of distributions. Discussions focus on Gaussian distribution, Poisson distribution, mean value variance and other moments, non-countable label space, basic assumptions, operations, and distribution function. The text then ponders on examples of combined operations and summation of chance variables characteristic function. The book takes a look at the asymptotic distribution of the sum of chance variables and probability inference. Topics include inference from a finite number of observations, law of large numbers, asymptotic distributions, limit distribution of the sum of independent discrete random variables, probability of the sum of rare events, and probability density. The text also focuses on the introduction to the theory of statistical functions and multivariate statistics. The publication is a dependable source of information for researchers interested in the mathematical theory of probability and statistics

Book Statistics for Engineers

Download or read book Statistics for Engineers written by Hartmut Schiefer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-16 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes how statistical methods can be effectively applied in the work of an engineer in terms that can be readily understood. Application of these methods enables the effort involved in experiments to be reduced, the results of these experiments to be fully evaluated, and statistically sound statements to be made as a result. Products can be developed more efficiently and manufactured more cost-effectively, not to mention with greater process reliability. The overarching aim is to save time, money, and materials. From the examples provided, the nature of the practical application can be clearly grasped in each case. This book is a translation of the original German 1st edition Statistik für Ingenieure by Hartmut Schiefer and Felix Schiefer, published by Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, part of Springer Nature in 2018. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). The present version has been revised technically and linguistically by the authors in collaboration with a professional translator. Springer Nature works continuously to further the development of tools for the production of books and on the related technologies to support the authors.

Book Interpreting Economic and Social Data

Download or read book Interpreting Economic and Social Data written by Othmar W. Winkler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-08-12 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Interpreting Economic and Social Data" aims at rehabilitating the descriptive function of socio-economic statistics, bridging the gap between today's statistical theory on one hand, and econometric and mathematical models of society on the other. It does this by offering a deeper understanding of data and methods with surprising insights, the result of the author's six decades of teaching, consulting and involvement in statistical surveys. The author challenges many preconceptions about aggregation, time series, index numbers, frequency distributions, regression analysis and probability, nudging statistical theory in a different direction. "Interpreting Economic and Social Data" also links statistics with other quantitative fields like accounting and geography. This book is aimed at students and professors in business, economics demographic and social science courses, and in general, at users of socio-economic data, requiring only an acquaintance with elementary statistical theory.

Book Mathematische Statistik

Download or read book Mathematische Statistik written by Dieter Rasch and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-12-10 with total page 730 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
