Book Math and Art

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sasho Kalajdzievski
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 2021
  • ISBN : 9780367076115
  • Pages : 520 pages

Download or read book Math and Art written by Sasho Kalajdzievski and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Math and Art: An Introduction to Visual Mathematics explores the potential of mathematics to generate visually appealing objects and reveals some of the beauty of mathematics. With downloadable resources and a 16-page full-color insert, it includes numerous illustrations, computer-generated graphics, photographs, and art reproductions to demonstrate how mathematics can inspire art. Basic Math Topics and Their Visual Aspects Focusing on accessible, visually interesting, and mathematically relevant topics, the text unifies mathematics subjects through their visual and conceptual beauty. Sequentially organized according to mathematical maturity level, each chapter covers a cross section of mathematics, from fundamental Euclidean geometry, tilings, and fractals to hyperbolic geometry, platonic solids, and topology. For art students, the book stresses an understanding of the mathematical background of relatively complicated yet intriguing visual objects. For science students, it presents various elegant mathematical theories and notions. Comprehensive Material for a Math in Art Course Providing all of the material for a complete one-semester course on mathematics in art, this self-contained text shows how artistic practice with mathematics and a comprehension of mathematical concepts are needed to logically and creatively appreciate the field of mathematics.

Book Math in Art and Art in Math

Download or read book Math in Art and Art in Math written by Stephen Fratini and published by . This book was released on 2021-03-30 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the relationships and synergies between art and mathematics. Several facets are considered, i.e., art that has a mathematical foundation (e.g., mosaics), mathematics that is applied to art (e.g., perspective) and mathematics that results in things that most would consider pleasing to view (e.g., abstract tessellations and computer generated fractal images). Topics include tessellations, perspective in art, optical illusions, various patterns such as spirals, and fractals. The book has almost 150 illustrations and over 100 references for further study. The required mathematical background for reading this book is minimal (high school algebra and some geometry).

Book excerpt: This volume explores the interaction of poetry and mathematics by looking at analogies that link them. The form that distinguishes poetry from prose has mathematical structure (lifting language above the flow of time), as do the thoughtful ways in which poets bring the infinite into relation with the finite. The history of mathematics exhibits a dramatic narrative inspired by a kind of troping, as metaphor opens, metonymy and synecdoche elaborate, and irony closes off or shifts the growth of mathematical knowledge. The first part of the book is autobiographical, following the author through her discovery of these analogies, revealed by music, architecture, science fiction, philosophy, and the study of mathematics and poetry. The second part focuses on geometry, the circle and square, launching us from Shakespeare to Housman, from Euclid to Leibniz. The third part explores the study of dynamics, inertial motion and transcendental functions, from Descartes to Newton, and in 20th c. poetry. The final part contemplates infinity, as it emerges in modern set theory and topology, and in contemporary poems, including narrative poems about modern cosmology.

Book The Shapes of Knowledge from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment

Download or read book The Shapes of Knowledge from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment written by D.R. Kelley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The original idea for a conference on the "shapes of knowledge" dates back over ten years to conversations with the late Charles Schmitt of the Warburg Institute. What happened to the classifications of the sciences between the time of the medieval Studium and that of the French Encyclopedie is a complex and highly abstract question; but posing it is an effective way of mapping and evaluating long term intellectual changes, especially those arising from the impact of humanist scholarship, the new science of the seventeenth century, and attempts to evaluate, to apply, to reconcile, and to institutionalize these rival and interacting traditions. Yet such patterns and transformations cannot be well understood from the heights of the general history of ideas. Within the ~eneral framework of the organization of knowledge the map must be filled in by particular explorations and soundings, and our project called for a conference that would combine some encyclopedic (as well as interdisciplinary and inter national) breadth with scholarly and technical depth.
