Book Mathematical Theory of Dislocations and Fracture

Download or read book Mathematical Theory of Dislocations and Fracture written by R. W. Lardner and published by Toronto ; Buffalo : University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1974 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concise, logical, and mathematically rigorous, this introduction to the theory of dislocations is addressed primarily to students and researchers in the general areas of mechanics and applied mathematics. Its scope encompasses those aspects of dislocation theory which are closely related to the theories of elasticity and macroscopic plasticity, to modern continuum mechanics, and to the theory of cracks and fracture. The volume incorporates several new and original pieces of work, including a development of the theory of dislocation motion and plastic strain for non-linear materials, a new discussion of the line tension model, revised calculations of the Peierls resistance, and a new development of the van der Merwe theory of crystal interfaces.

Book Nonlinear Theory of Dislocations and Disclinations in Elastic Bodies

Download or read book Nonlinear Theory of Dislocations and Disclinations in Elastic Bodies written by Leonid M. Zubov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-11 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author applies methods of nonlinear elasticity to investigate the defects in the crystal structure of solids such as dislocations and disclinations that characterize the plastic and strength properties of many materials. Contrary to the geometrically motivated nonlinear theory of dislocations continuously distributed over the body, nonlinear analysis of isolated dislocations and disclinations is less developed; it is given for the first time in this book, and in a form accessible to both students and researchers. The general theory of Volterra's dislocations in elastic media under large deformations is developed. A number of exact solutions are found. The nonlinear approach to investigating the isolated defects produces results that often differ qualitatively from those of the linear theory.

Book Mathematical Theory Of Elasticity And Generalized Dynamics Of Quasicrystals And Its Applications

Download or read book Mathematical Theory Of Elasticity And Generalized Dynamics Of Quasicrystals And Its Applications written by Tian-you Fan and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-12-27 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a detailed description on mathematical theory of elasticity and generalized dynamics of solid quasicrystals and its applications. The Chinese edition of the book Mathematical Theory of Elasticity of Quasicrystals and Its Applications was published by the Beijing Institute of Technology Press in 1999, written by Prof Tian-You Fan. In this English edition of the book, the phonon-phason dynamics, defect dynamics and hydrodynamics of solid quasicrystals are included, so the scope of the book is beyond elasticity. Hence, the title in this edition is changed to Mathematical Theory of Elasticity and Generalized Dynamics of Quasicrystals and Its Applications. This book is the first and only monograph in the scope of quasicrystals since first published in 1999 in China and worldwide. In this edition, the two-dimensional quasicrystals of second kind, soft-matter quasicrystals and photonic bade-gap and application of photonic quasicrystals are added. This book combines the mechanical and physical behavior of quasicrystals and mathematical physics, which may help graduate students and researchers in the fields of new materials, condensed matter physics, applied mathematics and engineering science.

Book Physico Mathematical Theory of High Irreversible Strains in Metals

Download or read book Physico Mathematical Theory of High Irreversible Strains in Metals written by V.M. Greshnov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-02-06 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents a new physical and mathematical theory of irreversible deformations and ductile fracture of metals that acknowledges the continuous change in the structure of materials during deformation and the accumulation of deformation damage. Plastic deformation, viscous destruction, evolution of structure, creep processes, and long-term strength of metals and stress relaxation are described in the framework of a unified approach and model. The author then expands this into a mathematical model for determining the mechanical characteristics of quasi-samples of standard mechanical properties in deformed semi-finished products.

Book Selected Papers of J M Burgers

Download or read book Selected Papers of J M Burgers written by F.T. Nieuwstadt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 761 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: J.M. Burgers (1895--1981) is regarded as one of the leading scientists in the field of fluid mechanics, contributing many important results, a number of which still bear his name. However, the work of this outstanding scientist was mostly published in the Proceedings and Transactions of The Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences, of which he was a distinguished member. Nowadays, this work is almost impossible to obtain through the usual library channels. Therefore, the editors have decided to reissue the most important work of J.M. Burgers, which gives the reader access to the original papers which led to important results, now known as the Burgers Equation, the Burgers Vector and the Burgers Vortex. Further, the book contains a biography of J.M. Burgers, which provides the reader with both information on his scientific life, as well as a rounded impression of the many activities which J.M. Burgers performed or was involved in outside his science.

Book Micromechanics of Defects in Solids

Download or read book Micromechanics of Defects in Solids written by T. Mura and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1987-11-30 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book stems from a course on Micromechanics that I started about fifteen years ago at Northwestern University. At that time, micromechanics was a rather unfamiliar subject. Although I repeated the course every year, I was never convinced that my notes have quite developed into a final manuscript because new topics emerged constantly requiring revisions, and additions. I finally came to realize that if this is continued, then I will never complete the book to my total satisfaction. Meanwhile, T. Mori and I had coauthored a book in Japanese, entitled Micromechanics, published by Baifu-kan, Tokyo, in 1975. It received an extremely favorable response from students and re searchers in Japan. This encouraged me to go ahead and publish my course notes in their latest version, as this book, which contains further development of the subject and is more comprehensive than the one published in Japanese. Micromechanics encompasses mechanics related to microstructures of materials. The method employed is a continuum theory of elasticity yet its applications cover a broad area relating to the mechanical behavior of materi als: plasticity, fracture and fatigue, constitutive equations, composite materi als, polycrystals, etc. These subjects are treated in this book by means of a powerful and unified method which is called the 'eigenstrain method. ' In particular, problems relating to inclusions and dislocations are most effectively analyzed by this method, and therefore, special emphasis is placed on these topics.

Book Theory of Elasticity and Plasticity

Download or read book Theory of Elasticity and Plasticity written by Valentin Molotnikov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-12 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as a core text for university curricula in solid body mechanics and, at the same time, examines the main achievements of state of the art research in the mechanics of elastic and non-elastic materials. This latter goal of the book is achieved through rich bibliographic references, many from the authors’ own work. authors. Distinct from similar texts, there are no claims in this volume to a single universal theory of plasticity. However, solutions are given to some new problems and to the construction of models useful both in pedagogic terms for students and practical terms for professional design engineers. Examples include the authors’ decisions about the Brazilian test, stability of rock exposure, and pile foundations. Designed for both upper-level university students and specialists in the mechanics of deformable hard body, the material in this book serves as a source for numerous topics of course and diploma concentration.
