Book The Mathematical and Physical Modeling of Primary Metals Processing Operations

Download or read book The Mathematical and Physical Modeling of Primary Metals Processing Operations written by Julian Szekely and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1988 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book that provides the mathematical and physical modelling techniques developed for representing metals processing operations such as extraction, refining and solidification. Often referred to as transport phenomena, these techniques are specific to primary metals and used for process optimization and process development now becoming essential as industry moves to on-line computer control of metal processing. This subject matter covers the components of models based on fluid flow; heat and mass transfer; obtaining measurements (data acquisition); optimization of the process; and numerical solutions. Covers the basic principles of numerical solution of differential equations, both finite differences and finite elements. Examples included.

Book Phase Interaction in the Metal Oxide Melts Gas System

Download or read book Phase Interaction in the Metal Oxide Melts Gas System written by Vladislav Boronenkov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-20 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph describes mathematical models that enable prediction of phase compositions for various technological processes, as developed on the base of a complex physico-chemical analysis of reaction. It studies thermodynamics and kinetics of specific stages of complex pyrometallurgical processes involving boron, carbon, sulfur, tungsten, phosphorus, and many more, as well as their exposure to all sorts of factors. First and foremost, this enables to optimize processes and technologies at the stage of design, while traditional empirical means of development of new technologies are basically incapable of providing an optimal solution. Simulation results of metals and alloys production, welding and coating technologies allow obtaining materials with pre-given composition, structure and properties in a cost-saving and conscious manner. Moreover, a so-called "inverse problem", i.e., selecting source materials which would ensure the required results, cannot be solved by any other means.

Book Mathematical Modelling for Materials Processing

Download or read book Mathematical Modelling for Materials Processing written by M. Cross and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1993 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical modelling has a key role to play in the design, analysis, optimization and control of material processing technologies. The task of modelling is interdisciplinary, involving materials scientists, process technologists, as well as applied mathematicians. This meeting broughttogether representatives from all branches of mathematical modelling from the researchers who develop models of the microstructural changes that occur during forming and the developers of algorithms and codes as simulation tools to those who employ such models and tools in an industrialcontext.

Book Modelling and Simulation of Inelastic Phenomena in the Material Behaviour of Steel During Heat Treatment Processes

Download or read book Modelling and Simulation of Inelastic Phenomena in the Material Behaviour of Steel During Heat Treatment Processes written by Simone Bökenheide and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work deals with the mathematical modelling of material behaviour of steel during heat treatment. In the case of inelastic material behaviour, the underlying system of equations is non-linear and its equations are coupled. Therefore, the description and modelling of inelastic phenomena is especially challenging. The aim of this thesis is to model the material behaviour of steel during heating and austenitisation taking into account creep and transformation-induced plasticity. We obtain a coupled system of partial and ordinary differential equations for temperature, phase fractions and mechanical deformations. We deal with the solving of the system as well as with the implementation of the model equations. A numerical algorithm is developed in order to solve the coupled system of equations involving the inelastic quantities. Furthermore, the presented models are used to identify certain material parameters. We present results of 3D simulations of the heat treatment of a workpiece and study the material behaviour during different heat treatment scenarios. The implementation of the model equations was carried out with the open source Finite Element Toolbox ALBERTA. We validate the 3D model by means of experimental data from workpiece experiments. Another important part of this work covers the topic of multi-mechanism models. The idea of this approach is to decompose the inelastic part of the total strain into several parts, also referred to as mechanisms. We develop a two-mechanism model for creep and TRIP arising simultaneously and discuss thermodynamic consistency.

Book International Symposium on History of Machines and MechanismsProceedings HMM 2000

Download or read book International Symposium on History of Machines and MechanismsProceedings HMM 2000 written by Marco Ceccarelli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Symposium on History of Machines and Mechanisms is a new initiative to promote explicitly researches and publications in the field of the History of TMM (Theory of Machines and Mechanisms). It was held at the University of Cassino, Italy, from 11 to 13 May 2000. The Symposium was devoted mainly to the technical aspects of historical developments and therefore it has been addressed mainly to the IFToMM Community. In fact, most the authors of the contributed papers are experts in TMM and related topics. This has been, indeed, a challenge: convincing technical experts to go further in-depth into the background of their topics of expertise. We have received a very positive response, as can be seen by the fact that these Proceedings contain contributions by authors from all around the world. We received about 50 papers, and after review about 40 papers were accepted for both presentation and publishing in the Proceedings. This means also that the History of TMM is of interest everywhere and, indeed, an in-depth knowledge of the past can be of great help in working on the present and in shaping the future with new ideas. I believe that a reader will take advantage of the papers in these Proceedings with further satisfaction and motivation for her or his work (historical or not). These papers cover the wide field of the History of Mechanical Engineering and particularly the History of TMM.
