Book Mathematical Modeling of Multicomponent Adsorption in Batch and Fixed bed Reactors

Download or read book Mathematical Modeling of Multicomponent Adsorption in Batch and Fixed bed Reactors written by Gary Friedman (Chemical Engineer) and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the increasing need for the ability to predict multicomponent adsorption, the development of the homogeneous surface diffusion model (HSDM) and pore surface diffusion model (PSDM) for multicomponent adsorption in batch and fixed-bed reactors is presented. The models are solved using the method of orthogonal collocation and verified against simplified models. Two multicomponent laboratory column studies are satisfactorily predicted using estimated mass transfer parameters and experimentally determined isotherm parameters. A sensitivity analysis is performed on the models to determine which input parameters have the greatest effect on batch and fixed-bed profiles. Process design considerations are presented which compare the number of bed volumes that can be treated for an adsorbate in a groundwater matrix to the maximum number of bed volumes that can be treated under equilibrium conditions and no mass transfer resistance. Calculations are given for a single adsorber, two adsorbers in series, and a single adsorber which incorporates backwashing.

Book Adsorption Calculations and Modelling

Download or read book Adsorption Calculations and Modelling written by Howard Brenner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Adsorption Calculations and Modelling' provides readers with practical, useful information about how to make adsorption calculations and formulate models describing adsorption processes. Unlike most books on this subject, this book treats both gas phase adsorption and liquid phase adsorption with equal emphasis, and supplies a rigorous treatment of multi-component adsorption. It also covers adsorption applications in environmental applications including the use of impregnated adsorbents for protection against toxic gases and carbon adsorption in water and wastewater treatment.Explores the most up-to-date information on multicomponent adsorption Details adsorption applications in environmental application Explains the fundamentals of adsorption calculation in a simple, straightforward manner.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, SIld disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna and broader dissemination. tional publishing house to assure improved service Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 30 (thesis year 1985) a total of 12,400 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 186 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work.

Book The Mathematical Understanding of Chemical Engineering Systems

Download or read book The Mathematical Understanding of Chemical Engineering Systems written by Neal R. Amundson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-19 with total page 838 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical Understanding of Chemical Engineering Systems is a collection of articles that covers the mathematical model involved in the practice of chemical engineering. The materials of the book are organized thematically into section. The text first covers the historical development of chemical engineering, and then proceeds to tackling a much more technical and specialized topics in the subsequent sections. The second section talks about the physical separation process, while the third section deals with stirred tank stability and control. Next, the book tackles polymerization and particle problems. Section 6 discusses empty tubular and fixed-bed catalytic reactors, while Section 7 details fluid-bed reactors and coal combustion. In the last two sections, the text presents mathematical and miscellaneous papers. The book will be most useful to researchers and practitioners of chemical engineering. Mathematicians and chemists will also benefit from the text.
