Book Process Modeling in Pyrometallurgical Engineering

Download or read book Process Modeling in Pyrometallurgical Engineering written by Henrik Saxén and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-09-01 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Special Issue presents almost 40 papers on recent research in modeling of pyrometallurgical systems, including physical models, first-principles models, detailed CFD and DEM models as well as statistical models or models based on machine learning. The models cover the whole production chain from raw materials processing through the reduction and conversion unit processes to ladle treatment, casting, and rolling. The papers illustrate how models can be used for shedding light on complex and inaccessible processes characterized by high temperatures and hostile environment, in order to improve process performance, product quality, or yield and to reduce the requirements of virgin raw materials and to suppress harmful emissions.

Book Characterization of the Fluid dynamic Mixing of a Bottom Gas injected Channel Reactor Using Low temperature Modelling

Download or read book Characterization of the Fluid dynamic Mixing of a Bottom Gas injected Channel Reactor Using Low temperature Modelling written by Jay Bernett Gassel and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Variables influencing the mixing in a single-phase (30.5 x 60 x 606 cm) and a two-phase (20 x 40 x 200 cm) channel reactor model were studied. Tracer and/or neutral density particle techniques were used to determine an eddy diffusivity, De, for the system(s). Three bubbler arrangements were investigated in the one-phase work. A separate apparatus was developed to withstand the corrosiveness of the tetrachloroethylene used in the two-phase work. Both the electrical conductivity tracer technique and the neutral density particle technique were shown to be feasible experimental techniques for determining an eddy diffusivity in the systems studied. Decreasing liquid depth or gas flow rate decreased the mixing in the systems. The bubble wall bubbler arrangement yielded higher De values and the central linear bubbler arrangement yielded lower values, relative to the single central bubbler arrangement. This was attributed to the directionality of the non-turbulent portion of the mixing energy. In the two-phase work, an upper phase was shown to decrease the mixing in the lower phase. Also, mixing in the upper phase was also lower than that expected, probably due to a more random mixing in this phase which resulted from surface energy effects on the gas phase at the liquid-liquid interface"--Abstract, leaf ii

Book Advances in Transport Processes in Metallurgical Systems

Download or read book Advances in Transport Processes in Metallurgical Systems written by Yogeshwar Sahai and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1992 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprises eight chapters covering the principal topics of basic and applied research on transport phenomena in metallurgical refining and production systems. Each chapter contains a comprehensive review of the international literature, a thorough analysis of major innovations, and critical discussions of controversial issues at the forefront of developments in transport phenomena. Basic concepts and fundamentals are emphasized and illustrated by examples from industry. This is particularly true in the chapters devoted to high-temperature processes, metal flow and flow-control systems, injection of reactive materials into melts, refractories and melt interaction, design of continuous-casting systems, and electrometallurgical processing. Scientists and engineers engaged in research and development for the metallurgical industries will find this book invaluable. The text is sufficiently fundamental to serve as a textbook for a graduate course in Process Metallurgy or as an important reference work for researchers.
