Book Agricultural Development in the World Periphery

Download or read book Agricultural Development in the World Periphery written by Vicente Pinilla and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together analysis on the conditions of agricultural sectors in countries and regions of the world’s peripheries, from a wide variety of international contributors. The contributors to this volume proffer an understanding of the processes of agricultural transformations and their interaction with the overall economies of Africa, Asia and Latin America. Looking at the nineteenth and twentieth centuries – the onset of modern economic growth – the book studies the relationship between agriculture and other economic sectors, exploring the use of resources (land, labour, capital) and the influence of institutional and technological factors in the long-run performance of agricultural activities. Pinilla and Willebald challenge the notion that agriculture played a negligible role in promoting economic development in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, when the impulse towards industrialization in the developing world was more impactful.

Book Classical Dynamics A Modern Perspective

Download or read book Classical Dynamics A Modern Perspective written by E C George Sudarshan and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2015-10-08 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classical dynamics is traditionally treated as an early stage in the development of physics, a stage that has long been superseded by more ambitious theories. Here, in this book, classical dynamics is treated as a subject on its own as well as a research frontier. Incorporating insights gained over the past several decades, the essential principles of classical dynamics are presented, while demonstrating that a number of key results originally considered only in the context of quantum theory and particle physics, have their foundations in classical dynamics.Graduate students in physics and practicing physicists will welcome the present approach to classical dynamics that encompasses systems of particles, free and interacting fields, and coupled systems. Lie groups and Lie algebras are incorporated at a basic level and are used in describing space-time symmetry groups. There is an extensive discussion on constrained systems, Dirac brackets and their geometrical interpretation. The Lie-algebraic description of dynamical systems is discussed in detail, and Poisson brackets are developed as a realization of Lie brackets. Other topics include treatments of classical spin, elementary relativistic systems in the classical context, irreducible realizations of the Galileo and Poincaré groups, and hydrodynamics as a Galilean field theory. Students will also find that this approach that deals with problems of manifest covariance, the no-interaction theorem in Hamiltonian mechanics and the structure of action-at-a-distance theories provides all the essential preparatory groundwork for a passage to quantum field theory. This reprinting of the original text published in 1974 is a testimony to the vitality of the contents that has remained relevant over nearly half a century.

Book Which Path Toward Eternity

Download or read book Which Path Toward Eternity written by George Bukow and published by . This book was released on 2020-01-16 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Will you be filled with hope and love when you die? You do have a choice. You can take death as it comes. You can grit your teeth and go down like a fighter. Or maybe you can get as much perspective and information as is available and make a sincere and deliberate attempt to prepare the best way you can. This book can help.Death can come like a thief in the night. It can come much earlier than expected. It can come very late, after we have given up hope and have become unable to fully prepare. But it will come. What a gift to have had the opportunity to live. Many have been denied this. What a gift to have had the opportunity to grow in love. Many have rejected this. Why?We have been given intelligence and free will. We can use these gifts to grow in understanding and love, or we can use them to further our own selfish desires. It is our choice. We can see only human weakness and curse the darkness. We can see light and goodness and seek only to increase them. It is our choice.Issues. Issues needed to be addressed-requiring knowledge, and ultimately wisdom, to engage them. This book tries to provide insight into these and similar observations. Whether it can be useful will depend greatly on the sincerity and commitment of the reader to read, to contemplate-devoid of preconceived biases-searching only for the Truth. The source of all goodness, all truth, is God. Without God there are only the shifting sands of human weakness and selfishness. This issue we must address before all others. From there we can proceed with confidence toward the Light.

Book Micro and Smart Systems

Download or read book Micro and Smart Systems written by G. K. Ananthasuresh and published by Wiley Global Education. This book was released on 2012-04-13 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microsystems are systems that integrate, on a chip or a package, one or more of many different categories of microdevices. As the past few decades were dominated by the development and rapid miniaturization of circuitry, the current and coming decades are witnessing a similar revolution in the miniaturization of sensors, actuators, and electronics; and communication, control and power devices. Applications ranging from biomedicine to warfare are driving rapid innovation and growth in the field, which is pushing this topic into graduate and undergraduate curricula in electrical, mechanical, and biomedical engineering.

Book Hunt for the Jews

  • Author : Jan Grabowski
  • Publisher : Indiana University Press

Download or read book Hunt for the Jews written by Jan Grabowski and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2013-10-09 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revealing account of Polish cooperation with Nazis in WWII—a “grim, compelling [and] significant scholarly study” (Kirkus Reviews). Between 1942 and 1943, thousands of Jews escaped the fate of German death camps in Poland. As they sought refuge in the Polish countryside, the Nazi death machine organized what they called Judenjagd, meaning hunt for the Jews. As a result of the Judenjagd, few of those who escaped the death camps would survive to see liberation. As Jan Grabowski’s penetrating microhistory reveals, the majority of the Jews in hiding perished as a consequence of betrayal by their Polish neighbors. Hunt for the Jews tells the story of the Judenjagd in Dabrowa, Tarnowska, a rural county in southeastern Poland. Drawing on materials from Polish, Jewish, and German sources created during and after the war, Grabowski documents the involvement of the local Polish population in the process of detecting and killing the Jews who sought their aid. Through detailed reconstruction of events, “Grabowski offers incredible insight into how Poles in rural Poland reacted to and, not infrequently, were complicit with, the German practice of genocide. Grabowski also, implicitly, challenges us to confront our own myths and to rethink how we narrate British (and American) history of responding to the Holocaust” (European History Quarterly).

Book Advanced Sensor and Detection Materials

Download or read book Advanced Sensor and Detection Materials written by Ashutosh Tiwari and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-06-09 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents a comprehensive and interdisciplinary review of the major cutting-edge technology research areas—especially those on new materials and methods as well as advanced structures and properties—for various sensor and detection devices The development of sensors and detectors at macroscopic or nanometric scale is the driving force stimulating research in sensing materials and technology for accurate detection in solid, liquid, or gas phases; contact or non-contact configurations; or multiple sensing. The emphasis on reduced-scale detection techniques requires the use of new materials and methods. These techniques offer appealing perspectives given by spin crossover organic, inorganic, and composite materials that could be unique for sensor fabrication. The influence of the length, composition, and conformation structure of materials on their properties, and the possibility of adjusting sensing properties by doping or adding the side-groups, are indicative of the starting point of multifarious sensing. The role of intermolecular interactions, polymer and ordered phase formation, as well as behavior under pressure and magnetic and electric fields are also important facts for processing ultra-sensing materials. The 15 chapters written by senior researchers in Advanced Sensor and Detection Materials cover all these subjects and key features under three foci: 1) principals and perspectives, 2) new materials and methods, and 3) advanced structures and properties for various sensor devices.
