This book was released on 2019-12-27 with total page 621 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children are the foundation of the United States, and supporting them is a key component of building a successful future. However, millions of children face health inequities that compromise their development, well-being, and long-term outcomes, despite substantial scientific evidence about how those adversities contribute to poor health. Advancements in neurobiological and socio-behavioral science show that critical biological systems develop in the prenatal through early childhood periods, and neurobiological development is extremely responsive to environmental influences during these stages. Consequently, social, economic, cultural, and environmental factors significantly affect a child's health ecosystem and ability to thrive throughout adulthood. Vibrant and Healthy Kids: Aligning Science, Practice, and Policy to Advance Health Equity builds upon and updates research from Communities in Action: Pathways to Health Equity (2017) and From Neurons to Neighborhoods: The Science of Early Childhood Development (2000). This report provides a brief overview of stressors that affect childhood development and health, a framework for applying current brain and development science to the real world, a roadmap for implementing tailored interventions, and recommendations about improving systems to better align with our understanding of the significant impact of health equity.

Book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 2

Download or read book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 2 written by Robert Black and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2016-04-11 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evaluation of reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH) by the Disease Control Priorities, Third Edition (DCP3) focuses on maternal conditions, childhood illness, and malnutrition. Specifically, the chapters address acute illness and undernutrition in children, principally under age 5. It also covers maternal mortality, morbidity, stillbirth, and influences to pregnancy and pre-pregnancy. Volume 3 focuses on developments since the publication of DCP2 and will also include the transition to older childhood, in particular, the overlap and commonality with the child development volume. The DCP3 evaluation of these conditions produced three key findings: 1. There is significant difficulty in measuring the burden of key conditions such as unintended pregnancy, unsafe abortion, nonsexually transmitted infections, infertility, and violence against women. 2. Investments in the continuum of care can have significant returns for improved and equitable access, health, poverty, and health systems. 3. There is a large difference in how RMNCH conditions affect different income groups; investments in RMNCH can lessen the disparity in terms of both health and financial risk.

Book Maternity Infancy Childhood

Download or read book Maternity Infancy Childhood written by John M. Keating and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Maternity, Infancy, Childhood: Hygiene of Pregnancy; Nursing and Weaning of Infants; The Care of Children in Health and Disease; Adapted Especially to the Use of Mothers or Those Intrusted With the Bringing Up of Infants and Children, and Training Schools for Nurses, as an Aid to the T This little work is intended for mothers, and for those who have undertaken the care of infants and children in health and sickness. The enormous mortality of children under three years of age, the greater part of which is preventable, has attracted the notice not only of physicians, who have long ago insisted that the methods adopted in general for the weaning of children were unscientific, but of the public also, who are beginning to realize this fact, and now willingly accept the advice of those who are giving especial attention to the subject. Much of the material appearing in this book has been taken from the manuscripts of my lectures to students of medicine and also pupils of training schools for nurses. I sincerely hope that the practical nature of many of the suggestions offered will find favor with the busy practitioner of medicine, and be looked upon as a supplement to the text-books on children's diseases that cannot give space to details of nursing. To Dr. Charles S. Turnbull I am indebted for the article on the care of the ear and eye, one of the most important chapters in the book. Dr. Alexander W. MacCoy kindly replied to some questions, and the matter is so practical and clear that I have placed it in a chapter as sent me. Book Does Money Matter

Download or read book Does Money Matter written by and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2018 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fathers are taking an increasingly involved role in parenting. Most previous research has focused on education and household income in relation to which parent stays at home to take care of children, but the impact of wealth on fathers' child caretaking time investment has not been thoroughly considered. Prior research has not considered the child caretaking time of parents who remain engaged with the workforce. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of wealth and class on father child caretaking time. Results show that household wealth is not significantly associated with father caretaking time. However, when wealth and father's educational attainment levels both increase, father caretaking time also increases. Conversely, father caretaking time also increases when fathers have lower educational attainment paired with debt. It appears that wealth and class do make a difference, but only if there is congruence between wealth/debt and educational attainment.

Book Child Abuse

Download or read book Child Abuse written by David A. Wolfe and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 1997-08-15 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Child Abuse brings together experts in both physical abuse and sexual abuse to create one of the few volumes that has addressed innovative approaches to treatment and prevention in these two areas. The resulting compendium of information provides insights into the current psychological perspectives on the causes and treatment of different forms of child maltreatment as well as the delivery of early intervention and prevention services. The book begins in the first part with a conceptual overview of the effect of physical abuse on the life course of children and adults. Chapters on physical abuse also examine recent findings related to child abuse offenders, children who witness domestic violence, treatment of abusive adults, and prevention programs aimed at dating adolescents and pregnant women. Contributors focusing on child sexual abuse note new approaches to the delivery of treatment services for these children as well as current developments in the interface between abuse victims and the court system. Considering the needs of both adult survivors and children, Child Abuse also discusses how child maltreatment interventions can be integrated into broader intervention services. An ideal book for use in professional training and development, Child Abuse will also guide policymakers at state and national levels to emerging new models and programs. This volume is likewise a useful resource for researchers and practitioners in social work, clinical/counseling psychology, mental health, and public health.

Book Health Insurance is a Family Matter

Download or read book Health Insurance is a Family Matter written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2002-09-18 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Health Insurance is a Family Matter is the third of a series of six reports on the problems of uninsurance in the United Sates and addresses the impact on the family of not having health insurance. The book demonstrates that having one or more uninsured members in a family can have adverse consequences for everyone in the household and that the financial, physical, and emotional well-being of all members of a family may be adversely affected if any family member lacks coverage. It concludes with the finding that uninsured children have worse access to and use fewer health care services than children with insurance, including important preventive services that can have beneficial long-term effects.
