Book Machine Translation with Minimal Reliance on Parallel Resources

Download or read book Machine Translation with Minimal Reliance on Parallel Resources written by George Tambouratzis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-09 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a unified view on a new methodology for Machine Translation (MT). This methodology extracts information from widely available resources (extensive monolingual corpora) while only assuming the existence of a very limited parallel corpus, thus having a unique starting point to Statistical Machine Translation (SMT). In this book, a detailed presentation of the methodology principles and system architecture is followed by a series of experiments, where the proposed system is compared to other MT systems using a set of established metrics including BLEU, NIST, Meteor and TER. Additionally, a free-to-use code is available, that allows the creation of new MT systems. The volume is addressed to both language professionals and researchers. Prerequisites for the readers are very limited and include a basic understanding of the machine translation as well as of the basic tools of natural language processing.

Book Mathematical Methods in Linguistics

Download or read book Mathematical Methods in Linguistics written by Barbara B.H. Partee and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 669 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elementary set theory accustoms the students to mathematical abstraction, includes the standard constructions of relations, functions, and orderings, and leads to a discussion of the various orders of infinity. The material on logic covers not only the standard statement logic and first-order predicate logic but includes an introduction to formal systems, axiomatization, and model theory. The section on algebra is presented with an emphasis on lattices as well as Boolean and Heyting algebras. Background for recent research in natural language semantics includes sections on lambda-abstraction and generalized quantifiers. Chapters on automata theory and formal languages contain a discussion of languages between context-free and context-sensitive and form the background for much current work in syntactic theory and computational linguistics. The many exercises not only reinforce basic skills but offer an entry to linguistic applications of mathematical concepts. For upper-level undergraduate students and graduate students in theoretical linguistics, computer-science students with interests in computational linguistics, logic programming and artificial intelligence, mathematicians and logicians with interests in linguistics and the semantics of natural language.

Book Machine Translation and Translation Theory

Download or read book Machine Translation and Translation Theory written by Christa Hauenschild and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 1997 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series serves to propagate investigations into language usage, especially with respect to computational support. This includes all forms of text handling activity, not only interlingual translations, but also conversions carried out in response to different communicative tasks. Among the major topics are problems of text transfer and the interplay between human and machine activities.

Book Handbook of Natural Language Processing and Machine Translation

Download or read book Handbook of Natural Language Processing and Machine Translation written by Joseph Olive and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-03-02 with total page 956 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive handbook, written by leading experts in the field, details the groundbreaking research conducted under the breakthrough GALE program--The Global Autonomous Language Exploitation within the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), while placing it in the context of previous research in the fields of natural language and signal processing, artificial intelligence and machine translation. The most fundamental contrast between GALE and its predecessor programs was its holistic integration of previously separate or sequential processes. In earlier language research programs, each of the individual processes was performed separately and sequentially: speech recognition, language recognition, transcription, translation, and content summarization. The GALE program employed a distinctly new approach by executing these processes simultaneously. Speech and language recognition algorithms now aid translation and transcription processes and vice versa. This combination of previously distinct processes has produced significant research and performance breakthroughs and has fundamentally changed the natural language processing and machine translation fields. This comprehensive handbook provides an exhaustive exploration into these latest technologies in natural language, speech and signal processing, and machine translation, providing researchers, practitioners and students with an authoritative reference on the topic.

Book Mathematical Linguistics Machine Translation and the Problems of Scientific and Technical Data Processing matematicheskaya Lingvistika Mashinnyi Perevod Problemy Obrabotki Nauchno tekhnicheskoi Informatsii

Download or read book Mathematical Linguistics Machine Translation and the Problems of Scientific and Technical Data Processing matematicheskaya Lingvistika Mashinnyi Perevod Problemy Obrabotki Nauchno tekhnicheskoi Informatsii written by M. V. Arapov and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The article involves primarily an analysis of the results produced by the approach to machine translation as a model of the process of understanding and generation of text, and their connection with the requirements and problems of scientific and technical information. The problem of understanding the essence of a document and translation of this essence into the UDC or into an automated language such as ALGOL, FORTRAN or any one of many others has much in common with the problem of translation of the essence of a document from Russian into English. Some of the results mentioned above include the formal descriptions of the syntaxical structure of the Russian language produced by mathematical linguists, as well as the descriptions of the semantic bonds between words; studies of the means of formal description of semantic bonds of words and texts and the information they contain; descriptions of grammatical characteristics of programming languages; concrete thesauri produced for certain areas of knowledge, such as the Euratom atomic energy thesaurus; machine translation projects and their preliminary results; and the many interesting information languages produced. The authors believe machine translation to be not a narrow discipline concerned only with the production of a translation from one natural language to another, but rather a broad field concerned with all automated information processing, with the production of a translation from one natural language to another as merely a test of the 'state of the art' of man's attempts to cope and communicate with computers and automatic information processing.
