Book Materials Control to Avoid Waste

Download or read book Materials Control to Avoid Waste written by Building Research Establishment. Department of the Environment and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although some waste is inevitable on building sites, much can be done to reduce it. An earlier digest, No. 247, introduces the problem, concludes that the greatest change necessary is one of attitude but also recommends the adoption of materials control procedures. Materials control covers the realistic design, specification and procurement of goods; their packaging, transportation, reception and accounting, handling, storage, use and protection after fixing. Careful attention to materials control techniques can help to minimise waste as well as ensuring that other resources are used in the construction process to their maximum effect. Designers (of buildings, plant and components), manufacturers and quantity surveyors are being urged to follow the Chartered Institute of Building's plan for action, Materials control and waste in building, which gives guidance on materials control prior to completion of tendering by the contractor. This digest deals with materials control and handling from the time that the contract is awarded.

Book Site Control of Materials

Download or read book Site Control of Materials written by John E Johnston and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-01-26 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Site Control of Materials: Handling, Storage and Protection deals with improving control in construction sites to limit waste resulting from improper storage and handling of valuable or fragile materials. According to the Building Research Establishment in the United Kingdom, 10-20% of all materials delivered to the construction site either end up as waste or are illegally removed during the contract. Bigger construction contracts such as in housing developments require new kinds of materials in larger volumes and new construction techniques, leading to increases in waste. To be able to lessen wastage, site management must 1) anticipate the progress and problems of construction; 2) control men and materials with equal efficiency; 3) complete the contract within the programmed period; and 4) carry out the work according to specification. The book explains in detail the procedures for obtaining materials, materials handing (including unit loads, pallets, deliveries, offloading), storage (stockpile arrangements, protection, facilities, withdrawals), as well as implementing stock controls on sites (coordination, transfer, accounting). The text also addresses prevention of on-site damages through site supervision, out-of-hours supervision, and installing fire precautions. The book should prove valuable for construction engineers, foremen, project managers, plant administrators, warehouse keepers, and other personnel connected with materials handling, their storage or safekeeping.

Book Landfill Research Trends

  • Author : Albert A. Velinni
  • Publisher : Nova Publishers

  • Pages : 312 pages

Download or read book Landfill Research Trends written by Albert A. Velinni and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents research studies on landfills which are sites for the disposal of waste materials by burial. Historically, landfills have been the most common methods of organised waste disposal and remain so in many places around the world. Landfills may include internal waste disposal sites (where a producer of waste carries out their own waste disposal at the place of production) as well as sites used by many producers. Many landfills are also used for other waste management purposes, such as the temporary storage, consolidation and transfer, or processing of waste material (sorting, treatment, or recycling). A landfill also may refer to ground that has been filled in with soil and rocks instead of waste materials, so that it can be used for a specific purpose, such as for building houses. Unless they are stabilised, these areas may experience severe shaking or liquefaction of the ground in a large earthquake. This book presents research in a field which is demanding and beginning to receive society's attention.

Book Waste Management Research Trends

Download or read book Waste Management Research Trends written by Toma V. Golush and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on waste management which is the collection, transport, processing, recycling or disposal of waste materials. The term usually relates to materials produced by human activity, and is generally undertaken to reduce their effect on health, aesthetics or amenity. Waste management is also carried out to reduce the materials' effect on the environment and to recover resources from them. Waste management can involve solid, liquid or gaseous substances, with different methods and fields of expertise for each. Waste management practices differ for developed and developing nations, for urban and rural areas, and for residential and industrial, producers. Management for non-hazardous residential and institutional waste in metropolitan areas is usually the responsibility of local government authorities, while management for non-hazardous commercial and industrial waste is usually the responsibility of the generator.

Book Environmental Materials and Waste

Download or read book Environmental Materials and Waste written by Majeti Narasimha Vara Prasad and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 760 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental Materials and Waste: Resource Recovery and Pollution Prevention contains the latest information on environmental sustainability as a wide variety of natural resources are increasingly being exploited to meet the demands of a worldwide growing population and economy. These raw materials cannot, or can only partially, be substituted by renewable resources within the next few decades. As such, the efficient recovery and processing of mineral and energy resources, as well as recycling such resources, is now of significant importance. The book takes a multidisciplinary approach to fully realize the number of by-products which can be remanufactured, providing the foundation needed across disciplines to tackle this issue. As awareness and opportunities to recover valuable resources from process and bleed streams is gaining interest, sustainable recovery of environmental materials, including wastewater, offers tremendous opportunity to combine profitable and sustainable production. - Presents a state-of-the-art guide to environmental sustainability - Provides an overview of the field highlighting recent and emerging issues in environmental resource recovery that cover a wide array of by-products for remanufacture potential - Details a multidisciplinary approach to fully realize the number of by-products which can be remanufactured, providing the foundation needed across disciplines to tackle these global issues
