Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FASHION INDUSTRY BROADCAST Masters of Fashion Vol 34 Italians ITALIAN FASHION. A DIVINE OPERA OF BEAUTY, DESIRE, FAME, POWER, AND EVEN MURDER. There is fashion, and then there is the truly sublime. To fully appreciate Italian fashion one needs to walk the Quadrilatero, the handful of sacred cobblestoned Milanese streets where a new pantheon of deities are worshipped, the houses of Gucci, Fendi Dolce & Gabbana, Cavalli, Tod's et al. On these hallowed boulevards the fashion faithful from all over the world make their Haj. In just a handful of streets one can be awestruck by the temples of Italian luxury fashion. This is not some run of the mill suburban mall this is transcendence. One time skilled artisans and humble shop keepers have exploded into globalised corporate powerhouses equipped with formidable engines of growth. Sophisticated multinational conglomerates who have mastered the arts of manufacturing desire with their use of marketing and image in addition to that of design and craftsmanship. They mastered the art of branding, line extensions, retail experiences, and product licensing strategies. Italian designers have sailed forth from their native shores like the explorers of old to conquer much of the new world with their coveted treasures and shiny retail palazzos. They have infiltrated the dream factories of Hollywood and now their names are as ubiquitous on the red carpets as they are on the runways. In the last 50 years Italian fashion has given us fame, scandal, murder and it appears there is nothing that can sate our appetite for more. -CAVALLI -DOLCE & GABBANA -FENDI -FIORUCCI -GUCCI -DIESEL -TOD'S Fashion Industry Broadcast's "MASTERS OF FASHION" is an 12 title series: Masters of Fashion - Vol 31 Americans Masters of Fashion - Vol 32 Americans Masters of Fashion - Vol 33 Italians Masters of Fashion - Vol 34 Italians Masters of Fashion - Vol 35 Heels Part 1 Masters of Fashion - Vol 35 Heels Part 2 Masters of Fashion - Vol 36 Bags Masters of Fashion - Vol 37 Paris Part 1 Masters of Fashion - Vol 38 Paris Part 2 Masters of Fashion - Vol 39 Renegades Masters of Fashion - Vol 40 Lingerie Masters of Fashion - Vol 41 Music in Fashion Fashion Industry Broadcast is the number one destination on the web for the latest in fashion, style, music, creative arts, creative media, models, celebrity biographies and much more. Book Masters of Fashion Vol 33 Italians

Download or read book Masters of Fashion Vol 33 Italians written by Paul Roberts and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-09-13 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters of Fashion Vol 33 Italians THE DYNASTIES OF ITALIAN FASHION. In the 1960's scores of international Jet set dress buyers and status seekers flocked to Rome, as much for the couture designs of Valentino and Roberto Carpucci as for the search of La Dolce Vita. The jeweled island of Capri was their playground. Florence was famous for leathergoods and gold, and it didn't hurt Florentine fortunes that Pucci and Ferragamo were Jet set must haves. In the 1970's fashion heralded the arrival of ready-to-wear and the demand for practical masculine styled clothing that women could wear to work and Milan rose to power as Italy's fashion epicenter. In the last century, Italian movies, which have had a great influence on Hollywood, showed what sensual style meant to Italians through famous images of Sophia Loren and later, Monica Belluci in movies like Malena. The look was well tailored, respectable, and sensual at the same time. To these iconic images have been added the style statements of the likes of Prada, Pucci, Gucci, Versace and Valentino, who have taken Italian style in an entirely different, over-the-top direction. -Armani -Prada -Missoni -Elsa Schiaparelli -Valentino -Versace Fashion Industry Broadcast's "MASTERS OF FASHION" is an 12 title series: Masters of Fashion - Vol 31 Americans Masters of Fashion - Vol 32 Americans Masters of Fashion - Vol 33 Italians Masters of Fashion - Vol 34 Italians Masters of Fashion - Vol 35 Heels Part 1 Masters of Fashion - Vol 35 Heels Part 2 Masters of Fashion - Vol 36 Bags Masters of Fashion - Vol 37 Paris Part 1 Masters of Fashion - Vol 38 Paris Part 2 Masters of Fashion - Vol 39 Renegades Masters of Fashion - Vol 40 Lingerie Masters of Fashion - Vol 41 Music in Fashion Fashion Industry Broadcast is the number one destination on the web for the latest in fashion, style, music, creative arts, creative media, models, celebrity biographies and much more. Book Fashion Aesthetics and Ethics

Download or read book Fashion Aesthetics and Ethics written by Louise Wallenberg and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-05-04 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How are aesthetics and ethics related to the practical realities of the global fashion industry? Both have played an important role in academic fashion studies to this point, but they are most often discussed in the context of abstract phenomena such as modernity and capitalism, or identity issues such as sexuality, class and gender. The essays in this volume strive instead to show how the realities of the global fashion industry have important and pertinent aesthetic and ethical consequences. This collection provides critical and philosophical analysis of the interplay of aesthetics and ethics within the global fashion industry. Characterized by an increasingly fast spinning production, the industry is highly exploitative in terms of environment and labor force: underpaid textile workers, retailers working under brutal competition from the mass-merchandise discounters, young designers, seamstresses and curators often working for free, and a vast body of aspiring models. In addition, fashion-related aesthetic ideals are becoming more influential than ever in directing consumers in their social and personal identification processes and bodily practices with sometimes fatal consequences. Covering a wide range of subjects such as fashion's highly problematic production and consumption practices, the possibility of producing and consuming fashion ethically, fashion's intimate connection with nature and technology, Fashion Aesthetics and Ethics highlights the powerful aesthetical presence of fashion in relation to its ethical premises and often problematic outcomes.

Book excerpt: FASHION INDUSTRY BROADCAST Masters of Fashion - Vol 31 Americans In spite of the 200+ years of clothing production evolution in the US, and several challenges posed by outsourcing for cheaper labour supplies, New York has remained America's fashion capital. Much like the fashion regions that would later develop around production in Italy, within New York an entire community of design, production, distribution, commerce and marketing existed. Skilled workers of Jewish and Italian descent, the giant retailers and department stores, the publishers, the advertising agencies, the design offices, the bohemian trend setting arts scene, the model agencies, and the factories all combined to form an eco-system that has managed to create a lasting American footprint on the world's fashion walk of fame, giving us fashion titans such as Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and Tom Ford. Book British Romanticism and the Reception of Italian Old Master Art 1793 1840

Download or read book British Romanticism and the Reception of Italian Old Master Art 1793 1840 written by Dr Maureen McCue and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2014-11-28 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a result of Napoleon’s campaigns in Italy, Old Master art flooded into Britain and its acquisition became an index of national prestige. Maureen McCue argues that their responses to these works informed the writing of Romantic period authors, enabling them to forge often surprising connections between Italian art, the imagination and the period’s political, social and commercial realities. Dr McCue examines poetry, plays, novels, travel writing, exhibition catalogues, early guidebooks and private experiences recorded in letters and diaries by canonical and noncanonical authors, including Felicia Hemans, William Buchanan, Henry Sass, Pierce Egan, William Hazlitt, Percy Shelley, Lord Byron, Anna Jameson, Maria Graham Callcott and Samuel Rogers. Her exploration of the idea of connoisseurship shows the ways in which a knowledge of Italian art became a key marker of cultural standing that was no longer limited to artists and aristocrats, while her chapter on the literary production of post-Waterloo Britain traces the development of a critical vocabulary equally applicable to the visual arts and literature. In offering cultural, historical and literary readings of the responses to Italian art by early nineteenth-century writers, Dr McCue illuminates the important role they played in shaping the themes that are central to our understanding of Romanticism.

Download or read book Italian Style written by Eugenia Paulicelli and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2016-09-22 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first in-depth, book-length study on fashion and Italian cinema from the silent film to the present. Italian cinema launched Italian fashion to the world. The book is the story of this launch. The creation of an Italian style and fashion as they are perceived today, especially by foreigners, was a product of the post World War II years. Before then, Parisian fashion had dominated Europe and the world. Just as fashion was part of Parisian and French national identity, the book explores the process of shaping and inventing an Italian style and fashion that ran parallel to, and at times took the lead in, the creation of an Italian national identity. In bringing to the fore these intersections, as well as emphasizing the importance of craft in cinema, fashion and costume design, the book aims to offer new visions of films by directors such as Nino Oxilia, Mario Camerini, Alessandro Blasetti, Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni, Luchino Visconti and Paolo Sorrentino, of film stars such as Lyda Borelli, Francesca Bertini, Pina Menichelli, Lucia Bosè, Monica Vitti, Marcello Mastroianni, Toni Servillo and others, and the costume archives and designers who have been central to the development of Made in Italy and Italian style.

Book Old Women and Art in the Early Modern Italian Domestic Interior

Download or read book Old Women and Art in the Early Modern Italian Domestic Interior written by Erin J. Campbell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-09 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though portraits of old women mediate cultural preoccupations just as effectively as those of younger women, the scant published research on images of older women belies their significance within early modern Italy. This study examines the remarkable flowering, largely overlooked in portraiture scholarship to date, of portraits of old women in Northern Italy and especially Bologna during the second half of the sixteenth century, when, as a result of religious reform, the lives of women and the family came under increasing scrutiny. Old Women and Art in the Early Modern Italian Domestic Interior draws on a wide range of primary visual sources, including portraits, religious images, architectural views, prints and drawings, as well as extant palazzi and case, furnishings, and domestic objects created by the leading artists in Bologna, including Lavinia Fontana, Bartolomeo Passerotti, Denys Calvaert, and the Carracci. The study also draws on an array of historical sources - including sixteenth-century theories of portraiture, prescriptive writings on women and the family, philosophical and practical treatises on the home economy, sumptuary legislation, books of secrets, prescriptive writings on old age, and household inventories - to provide new historical perspectives on the domestic life of the propertied classes in Bologna during the period. Author Erin Campbell contends that these images of unidentified women are not only crucial to our understanding of the cultural operations of art within the early modern world, but also, by working from the margins to revise the center, provide an opportunity to present new conceptual frameworks and question our assumptions about old age, portraiture, and the domestic interior.

Book Towards a Dialogical History of Modern Architecture

Download or read book Towards a Dialogical History of Modern Architecture written by Jorge Francisco Liernur and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-07-15 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book challenges three perspectives on the modern architectural canon: explanations that disregard impacts and effects beyond the North Atlantic (monologic), superficial modifications that simply add "Other" figures to the canon, and views that reject the canon itself. Instead, it recognizes the canon's significance in comprehending architecture, while seeking to uncover its presumed Western-centric integrity through a shift from a monological to a dialogical approach. This approach integrates concepts of identity and Otherness as dialectically articulated and mutually interrelated. In essence, the book's main thesis contends that the canon's historiographic construction overlooked the existence of “Otherness”, specifically neglecting the world beyond the North Atlantic nucleus of the West. By examining a global context to comprehend the canon formation, the book proposes a more accurate understanding of the history of modern architecture. Recognizing that this task cannot emanate from a single hegemonic center, it presents the prospect of a coral-type architectural history. This narrative should and could encompass voices from diverse cultures to explore the particular circumstances of the world intertwined with each piece or figure transiently integrated into that canon. As a result, the ideal readers of this book position themselves within multiple settings, keen on engaging in a critical global conversation about modern architectural discourse. It will be of interest to researchers and students of architecture, architectural history, and cultural studies.
