Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To advance in today's workplace requires virtual team skills. Most individuals assume their face-to-face skills will translate, but competency with virtual communication and teamwork requires an entirely new set of skills. This book guides readers down the path to success. Electronic communication is now embedded in our daily experience, as is work involving off-site collaborators. Virtual communication has become an essential job skill that is critical to individual and group success, yet most people just muddle through it without giving it any thought. Drawing on decades of scientific research in the fields of psychology, organizational behavior, and sociology, this book explains how to master the art and science of communicating virtually. The author first analyzes the subtle but significant changes that result when conversations are moved online, providing examples and tips to avoid common pitfalls, then discusses how team behavior and decision making can best be guided in this realm. Readers will fully understand what makes teams "click"—what inspires trust, how to get a team "off on the right foot," and what steps to take in order to make good collaborative decisions—as well as other key topics for virtual teamwork, such as best practices for working in the cross-cultural environment. The book serves as an ideal guide for anyone who participates in or manages a virtual team but is also suitable as a supplemental textbook in a business school course on organizational behavior or business communication.

Download or read book VIRTUAL TEAMS written by Prabhu TL and published by NestFame Creations Pvt Ltd.. This book was released on with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phrase "virtual team" is strange. Something about it makes it sound like something that only exists in a virtual world. Virtual teams, on the other hand, are a real thing that are becoming more common every day. A virtual team is no longer an anomaly in today's workplace. Organizations have realised the advantages of using technology to search for talent outside of their immediate area. It's almost become the norm, and the recent pandemic has only served to amplify the trend. Virtual teams are here to stay, regardless. Many of you have either worked on one, or are considering doing so, in your own workplace. Great! However, as you consider your options, keep these things in mind. Understanding what virtual teams are and why they've become so popular is the first and most important step. What Is a "Virtual Team"? The term "virtual team" refers to a group of people who collaborate and communicate digitally. It's not uncommon for virtual teams to be spread out across the country or the world, even if they're all located in the same physical location. In addition to "virtual teams," the terms "geographically dispersed teams" and "remote teams" are used interchangeably to describe groups of people who work together virtually. Online tools such as project management software are used to facilitate communication and collaboration. In order to avoid costly misunderstandings, virtual teams must foster trust amongst one another and foster good communication. Getting over this barrier can be a challenge, as people tend to form strong bonds in person. There are, however, virtual project management techniques that can aid in this endeavour. Virtual teams can be divided into two categories: A worldwide virtual team. These teams are typically dispersed across numerous countries and cities. In order to complete shared outsourced projects and achieve common goals they can be employees from multiple companies who pool their resources (such as people, technology, and money). In-house online group. Virtual workgroup members are typically employed by the same company. Either the company is large or small, but it must have sufficient resources (including technology) to set up and maintain virtual workplaces for its employees and group them into an efficient remote workforce.

Book excerpt: The classic international bestseller, updated for the hybrid work world, including a new chapter on virtual communication. Excellent communicating skills have always been crucial to success in leadership and management roles—and that’s one of the reasons the first edition of this book, Mastering Communication at Work, has been an international bestseller taught at universities and referred to by leading CEOs. In the years since it was first published, it’s been the go-to “communication playbook,” helping leaders develop strategic responses and communication tactics with clear, actionable advice. What’s changed in the last ten years? Well, nothing—and everything. The fundamentals of effective communication are the same, as are many of the challenges leaders face, generation after generation. You still need to “match your listener’s tendency” and “validate,” and you still need to guard against “defensiveness.” What has changed is how some of the fundamentals and challenges are applied and met in today’s world—both real and virtual, in remote and on-site working environments. Mastering Communication at Work, 2nd Edition features an essential new chapter on remote team communication along with additional content on equitable leadership and updated case studies.
