This book was released on 2018 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Massachusetts was at the center of the national struggle for women's rights, and the early activities there, described in this well-researched book, enabled the next generation of women to triumph over tradition. Massachusetts was at the center of the national struggle for women's rights. Long before the Civil War, Lucy Stone and other Massachusetts abolitionists opposed women's exclusion from political life. They launched the organized movement at the first National Woman's Rights Convention, held in Worcester. After the war, state activists founded the Boston-based American Woman Suffrage Association and Woman's Journal to lead campaigns across the country. Their activities laid the foundation for the next generation of suffragists to triumph over tradition. Author Barbara Berenson gives these revolutionary reformers the attention they deserve in this compelling and engaging story.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Massachusetts in the Woman Suffrage Movement: A General, Political, Legal and Legislative History From 1774 to 1881 The writing of this book has been a labor of love; and I publish it in the hope that it may be found useful as a book of reference, and also, that it may help to keep the memory green of some of the earlier workers in the Woman's Rights Movement. When writing upon certain phases of this question, I have often been very much hampered for want of authentic data upon which to base my statements. The cyclopaedias say comparatively little, and there is no book of reference that enters into details on this subject. The need of such a book has no doubt been felt by others as well as by myself, and I sincerely hope that, so far as it goes, this work will supply that need. In 1870, when I began to work for woman suffrage, I found in the ranks, many earnest men and women who had labored long in the weedy field of this reform. There were also, dim traditions of others whose names were half forgotten and the memory of whose services was fast becoming obliterated. A reformer is the Rip Van Winkle in the history of his time. Book Anti Suffrage Essays by Massachusetts Women

Download or read book Anti Suffrage Essays by Massachusetts Women written by Ernest Bernbaum and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Anti-Suffrage Essays by Massachusetts Women: With an Introduction Sufi'ragists continued to talk about what we women' want. But men presently began to see that these women had no right to pretend to represent their sex. Even their own claims as to the number of women supporting them showed that they represented only between 5% and 10% of the women of Massachusetts. At least 90% of the women - either by open opposi tion, or by a marked indifference to the subject showed that they did not behave in woman suffrage. It became obvious that no general statement could be more emphatically true than that Massachusetts wo men did not want to vote. Book excerpt: A surprising number of nationally recognized suffragist leaders spent summers in seaside Scituate, Massachusetts. This book creates a revealing portrait of their lives in what was arguably the nation's summer suffragist capital, using original research and previously unpublished records. It also offers a highly readable account of their personal and activist lives in Boston, New York, Washington, and elsewhere, fighting for women's right to vote, culminating in the adoption of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution in 1920. It is both local and national history, still relevant to our times, when the right to vote and the right to protest are under assault.
