Book Positive Ion Composition Measurements in the Lower Ionosphere During the 12 November 1966 Solar Eclipse

Download or read book Positive Ion Composition Measurements in the Lower Ionosphere During the 12 November 1966 Solar Eclipse written by Rocco S. Narcisi and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Positive ion composition measurements in the D and E regions were performed on three rocket flights during the 1966 solar eclipse program conducted at Cassino, Brazil. The E region results showed that, at totality, NO+ and O2+ decreased in density while the ratio NO+/O2 increased. Long-lived meteoric ions appeared to be unaffected during the short period of the eclipse. A submerged layer of meteoric ions became prominent at totality when the molecular ion densities were smallest and produced a sporadic E layer. The D region results indicated that the decay in the water cluster ions at totality was probably less than a factor of four in the vicinity of 80 km. This work represents part of a continuing Air Force program to study lower ionospheric processes which affect communications. (Author).

Book Development of an Ion Mass Spectrometer and Sounding Rocket System for D region Cluster ion Measurement

Download or read book Development of an Ion Mass Spectrometer and Sounding Rocket System for D region Cluster ion Measurement written by A. Bailey and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Ion Mass Spectrometer and supporting Sounding Rocket System were developed to make in situ measurements of cluster-ions in the D-region of the ionosphere. A cryogenically vacuum-pumped quadrupole mass filter and secondary emission ion counter are coupled to make mass spectral measurements of positive and negative ion composition in ambient gas sampled at the apex of a cone designed to attach the shock wave induced by supersonic sounding rocket speeds. Book The Atmosphere and Climate of Mars

Download or read book The Atmosphere and Climate of Mars written by Robert M. Haberle and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-06-29 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humanity has long been fascinated by the planet Mars. Was its climate ever conducive to life? What is the atmosphere like today and why did it change so dramatically over time? Eleven spacecraft have successfully flown to Mars since the Viking mission of the 1970s and early 1980s. These orbiters, landers and rovers have generated vast amounts of data that now span a Martian decade (roughly eighteen years). This new volume brings together the many new ideas about the atmosphere and climate system that have emerged, including the complex interplay of the volatile and dust cycles, the atmosphere-surface interactions that connect them over time, and the diversity of the planet's environment and its complex history. Including tutorials and explanations of complicated ideas, students, researchers and non-specialists alike are able to use this resource to gain a thorough and up-to-date understanding of this most Earth-like of planetary neighbours.

Book Miniature Mass Spectrometers for Upper Atmosphere Composition Measurements

Download or read book Miniature Mass Spectrometers for Upper Atmosphere Composition Measurements written by A. D. Bailey and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A basic quadrupole mass spectrometer system for neutral and ionized gaseous composition measurements of the upper atmosphere is described. Emphasis is placed on the electronic circuits used with a particular miniature quadrupole rod assembly and ionizer. Circuits described include the power converter, scan waveform generator, dc and rf excitation generators, logarithmic output current amplifier, ion source filament emission regulator and signal-conditioning circuits for telemetering. A summary of performance specifications and critical design dimensions is included. (Author).

Book The Earth s Ionosphere

    Book Details:
  • Author : Michael Kelly
  • Publisher : Elsevier

  • Pages : 500 pages

Download or read book The Earth s Ionosphere written by Michael Kelly and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Earth's Ionosphere: Plasma Physics and Electrodynamics emphasizes the study of plasma physics and electrodynamics of the ionosphere, including many aeronomical influences. The ionosphere is somewhat of a battleground between the earth's neutral atmosphere and the sun's fully ionized atmosphere, in which the earth is embedded. One of the challenges of ionosphere research is to know enough about these two vast fields of research to make sense out of ionospheric phenomena. This book provides insights into how these competing sources of mass, momentum, and energy compete for control of the ionosphere. Some of the topics discussed include the fundamentals of ionospheric plasma dynamics; equatorial plasma instabilities; high-latitude electrodynamics; and instabilities and structure in the high-latitude ionosphere. Throughout this text only the region above 90 km are discussed, ignoring the D region entirely. This publication is a good source of information for students and individuals conducting research on earth’s ionosphere.

Book The D and E Regions

Download or read book The D and E Regions written by William Swider and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chemistry of the E-region is fairly well understood and even many of the dynamical complications of this region have been successfully modeled on individual bases. Some of the major remaining problems of this region are discussed, in particular the nitric oxide concentration, a gas affecting the ratio of the two major E-region ions, O2(+) and NO(+). The D-region is much simpler than the E-region from a dynamical point of view but extremely much more complex from a chemical standpoint. Recent results from a study of the D-region under bombardment by solar protons is emphasized.
