Book Mass Spectrometric Study of Mobility Diffusion and Reactions of Ions in Gases

Download or read book Mass Spectrometric Study of Mobility Diffusion and Reactions of Ions in Gases written by Earl W. McDaniel and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on slow ions in gases with a drift tube mass spectrometer is described. The research dealt with the measurement of ionic mobilities, diffusion coefficients, and reaction rates. Emphasis was placed on studies of clustering of K(+) ions in N2, H2, He, Ne, Ar, O2, NO, CO, and CO2; on tests of the Wannier diffusion equations; on the differences in behavior of K(+) ions in N2 and CO; and on measurement on ions, formed from CO, drifting in carbon monoxide gas. Improvements in the experimental apparatus and analytical techniques are described, and plans for the immediate future are discussed. (Author).

Book Mass Spectrometric Studies of Mobilities Diffusion and Reactions of Ions in Gases

Download or read book Mass Spectrometric Studies of Mobilities Diffusion and Reactions of Ions in Gases written by David W. Martin and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A long term research program has been continued, utilizing a Drift Tube Mass Spectrometer apparatus for basic studies of the drift velocities and mobilities, the diffusion coefficients, and the rates of reactions of low-energy ions in gases. Encouraging progress has been made in the current period toward the extension of the data analysis capability to include situations where a pair of ion species are coupled by a reversible reaction having arbitrary rates in either direction. In pure carbon monoxide, the primary ion CO(+) and the secondary dimer ion CO. CO+ constitute a typical such pair of species. A very detailed experimental study of this case has been underway to evaluate and confirm the extended analysis. (Author).

Book Gaseous Ion Mobility Diffusion and Reaction

Download or read book Gaseous Ion Mobility Diffusion and Reaction written by Larry A. Viehland and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-19 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the drift, diffusion, and reaction of ions moving through gases under the influence of an external electric field, the gas temperature, and the number density. While this field was established late in the 19th century, experimental and theoretical studies of ion and electron swarms continue to be important in such varied fields as atomic and molecular physics, aeronomy and atmospheric chemistry, gaseous electronics, plasma processing, and laser physics. This book follows in the rigorous tradition of well-known older books on the subject, while at the same time providing a much-needed overview of modern developments with a focus on theory. Graduate students and researchers new to this field will find this book an indispensable guide, particularly those involved with ion mobility spectrometry and the use of ion transport coefficients to test and improve ab initio ion-neutral interaction potentials. Established researchers and academics will find in this book a modern companion to the classic references.

Book Differential Ion Mobility Spectrometry

Download or read book Differential Ion Mobility Spectrometry written by Alexandre A. Shvartsburg and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2008-12-24 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last decade, scientific and engineering interests have been shifting from conventional ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) to field asymmetric waveform ion mobility spectrometry (FAIMS). Differential Ion Mobility Spectrometry: Nonlinear Ion Transport and Fundamentals of FAIMS explores this new analytical technology that separates and characterizes ions by the difference between their mobility in gases at high and low electric fields. It also covers the novel topics of higher-order differential IMS and IMS with alignment of dipole direction. The book relates the fundamentals of FAIMS and other nonlinear IMS methods to the physics of gas-phase ion transport. It begins with the basics of ion diffusion and mobility in gases, covering the main attributes of conventional IMS that are relevant to all IMS approaches. Building on this foundation, the author reviews diverse high-field transport phenomena that underlie differential IMS. He discusses the conceptual implementation and first-principles optimization of FAIMS as a filtering technique, emphasizing the dependence of FAIMS performance metrics on instrumental parameters and properties of ion species. He also explores ion reactions in FAIMS caused by field heating and the effects of inhomogeneous electric field in curved FAIMS gaps. Written by an accomplished scientist in the field, this state-of-the-art book supplies the foundation to understand the new technology of nonlinear IMS methods.

Book Swarms of Ions and Electrons in Gases

Download or read book Swarms of Ions and Electrons in Gases written by W. Lindinger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our understanding of elementary processes in plasmas has been increasing dramatically over the last few years. The development of various swarm techniques, such as the temperature variable selected ion flow tube or the selected ion flow drift tube, has provided the prerequisite for detailed investigations into ion molecule reactions both in binary and three body collisions, and the mechanisms of many reactions are now understood quite satisfactorily. This information could not have been obtained without a detailed knowledge of the transport phenomena involved. Some of these, such as the internal-energy distribution of drifting ions, have only very recently been tackled both theoretically and experimentally; a consistent model is now being developed. As the interactions between the various branches of swarm research have become more and more intense, the most obvious thing to do was putting together a review on the present state of this subject, which is the aim of this book.
