Book Mass Production the Stock Market Crash and the Great Depression

Download or read book Mass Production the Stock Market Crash and the Great Depression written by Bernard C. Beaudreau and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2004-06 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economists and historians view the events of the 1920s, the stock market boom and crash, the Great Depression and the New Deal, as being largely independent. This work presents an integrated, empirically-consistent view of this important period arguing that all of these events can be traced back to a paradigm technology shock, namely the electrification of U.S. industry from 1910 to 1926. The author goes from electrification through the stock market boom to the tariffs of the late 20s to the stock market crash and depression followed by the National Industrial Recovery Act in 1933.

Book The Pan Industrial Revolution

Download or read book The Pan Industrial Revolution written by Richard D'Aveni and published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. This book was released on 2018-10-16 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The acclaimed author of Strategic Capitalism presents a provocative new vision of global industry in the age of 3-D printing: “essential business reading” (Kirkus, starred review). With books like Hypercompetition and Strategic Capitalism, Richard D’Aveni has established himself as a business strategist of uncanny prescience. In The Pan-Industrial Revolution, he demonstrates how the advent of industrial‑scale 3‑D printing is already happening under the radar, and that it will have a far‑reaching impact that most corporate and governmental leaders have yet to anticipate or understand. 3-D printing, now called additive manufacturing, has moved far beyond a desktop technology used by hobbyists to churn out trinkets and toys. In this eye-opening account, D’Aveni reveals how recent breakthroughs have been secretly adapted by Fortune 500 companies to revolutionize the manufacture jet engines, airplanes, automobiles, and so much more. D’Aveni explains how this technology will transform the landscape of manufacturing, and the dramatic effect this change will have on the world economy. A handful of massively powerful corporations—what D’Aveni calls pan‑industrials—will become as important as any tech giant in re-structuring the global order.

Book It s Money

Download or read book It s Money written by Charles Moore and published by charles. This book was released on 2020-11-01 with total page 1311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because most people and their countries seek wealth and power, and because money and credit are the biggest single influence on how wealth and power rise and decline, if one does not seek knowledge of how money works, one cannot understand the biggest driver of politics within and between countries; hence one cannot understand how the world order works. If one doesn’t understand how the world order works, one can’t understand the post-pandemic debt tsunami that’s coming. I believe that the times ahead will be radically different from the times we have experienced so far in our lifetimes. It is indeed quite astonishing that money, ever-present in our lives, is so poorly understood; even by many economic experts themselves. This incomprehension stems from the deliberate efforts of the financial sector to “obscure its activities” in order to maintain its omnipotence. This book seeks to address this “crisis of ignorance” by providing an easily understood and comprehensive understanding of money in the hope of empowering people against finance’s grip over their lives and those of their society. The digital revolution post-pandemic, will lead to a radical departure from the traditional model of monetary exchange. The creation of a Digital Financial Market Infrastructure will underpin the unbundling and re-bundling of the functions of money within society. Although digital money itself is not new to modern economies, digital legal tender (DLT), which exists without any Ledger or Central Bank, will facilitate instantaneous peer-to-peer transfers of value in a way that today is impossible. The importance of digital connectedness, will often supersede the importance of macroeconomic links, and lead to the establishment of “Digital Financial Markets” linking the currency to membership of a particular financial market rather than to a specific country. Capitalism underpins wealth generation and hence the existence of a free digital financial market. This book seeks to transform Money into a digital currency, which supports a more equitable access to capital, and ensure its convertibility into a universal World Currency Unit as digital legal tender. Digital currencies without borders may also cause an upheaval of the international monetary system: countries that are socially or digitally integrated with their neighbours may face digital dollarization, and the prevalence of systemically important platforms could lead to the emergence of digital currency areas that transcend national borders. Digital legal tender, within a multiplicity of currencies, ensures that money as a public good, remains a relevant medium of exchange which achieves payment finality to all transactions. Additionally, the universal supranational-currency, the World Currency Unit is defined to support the global transfer of value between any two people on the planet today, without the need for any treaties, or financial service intermediaries. Universal access to capital which is readily convertible to globally trusted units of account combined with a censorship-resistant means of payment underpins global trade, will improve market access for holders of low per-unit value, producers, and consumers in developing and developed countries. The Vision is a Borderless Global Market, underpinning universal wealth creation, which never closes… This book defines the Universe of Discourse(domain) and hence creates a shared conceptual schema (or language) within which to communicate and deploy a Digital Currency, to achieve universal legal finality to all financial transactions.

Book The Fourth Industrial Revolution

Download or read book The Fourth Industrial Revolution written by Klaus Schwab and published by Crown Currency. This book was released on 2017-01-03 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World-renowned economist Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, explains that we have an opportunity to shape the fourth industrial revolution, which will fundamentally alter how we live and work. Schwab argues that this revolution is different in scale, scope and complexity from any that have come before. Characterized by a range of new technologies that are fusing the physical, digital and biological worlds, the developments are affecting all disciplines, economies, industries and governments, and even challenging ideas about what it means to be human. Artificial intelligence is already all around us, from supercomputers, drones and virtual assistants to 3D printing, DNA sequencing, smart thermostats, wearable sensors and microchips smaller than a grain of sand. But this is just the beginning: nanomaterials 200 times stronger than steel and a million times thinner than a strand of hair and the first transplant of a 3D printed liver are already in development. Imagine “smart factories” in which global systems of manufacturing are coordinated virtually, or implantable mobile phones made of biosynthetic materials. The fourth industrial revolution, says Schwab, is more significant, and its ramifications more profound, than in any prior period of human history. He outlines the key technologies driving this revolution and discusses the major impacts expected on government, business, civil society and individuals. Schwab also offers bold ideas on how to harness these changes and shape a better future—one in which technology empowers people rather than replaces them; progress serves society rather than disrupts it; and in which innovators respect moral and ethical boundaries rather than cross them. We all have the opportunity to contribute to developing new frameworks that advance progress.

Book Supercapitalism

Download or read book Supercapitalism written by Robert B. Reich and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2007-09-04 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From one of America's foremost economic and political thinkers comes a vital analysis of our new hypercompetitive and turbo-charged global economy and the effect it is having on American democracy. With his customary wit and insight, Reich shows how widening inequality of income and wealth, heightened job insecurity, and corporate corruption are merely the logical results of a system in which politicians are more beholden to the influence of business lobbyists than to the voters who elected them. Powerful and thought-provoking, Supercapitalism argues that a clear separation of politics and capitalism will foster an enviroment in which both business and government thrive, by putting capitalism in the service of democracy, and not the other way around.

Book The Breaking Point

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Picketty (the rich get richer), Gordon (the important innovations are already behind us), Tainter (it's too complicated) all have theories about why the 21st century is such a disappointment. James Dale Davidson connects the dots...but more dots…and more unexpected dots…than perhaps anyone."—From the Foreword by BILL BONNER, coauthor of International bestseller The Empire Debt IS YOUR PORTFOLIO POSITIONED FOR THE GLOBAL FINANCIAL REVOLUTION? The global economy as we know it is due for a major correction, and with this will come permanent, systemic change: the greatest economic freedom the world has ever seen. But hard financial times are ahead, and The Breaking Point will help you protect your wealth and prosper through it all. Providing a painfully clear view of the state of the global economy, outspoken economist James Dale Davidson uses the old-fashioned tool of argument—facts—to describe how governments have mismanaged the financial system to the point of no return. It has all led to Brexit—the opening salvo in the war for financial freedom. The Breaking Point shows you where we've been and where we're headed, offering the insight and information you need to ensure you're positioned for the worst of times-and the best of times.
