Book excerpt: This book is an educational piece and a thoroughly researched contribution in the 21st century Nigeria. I recommend it to all lovers of education. The Education Ministers, Boards and other relevant bodies have to read this. University Dons would find Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Alphonsus Ezeokes book exceptionally useful. It is a handbook for todays students. -Very Rev. Msgr. Prof. J.P.C. Nzomiwu (Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria) Straddling two cultures, Fr. Ezeoke not only exposes the urgent need for educational reform in Nigeria, but he also advances the strategies that are needed to reach under the current system and lift it up. Knowing the historicity, Fr. Ezeokes careful assessment calls for action and boldly determines that such an undertaking is key to Nigerian growth, unity and global interaction. -Cathy B. Grandjean, MA BCC (Fmr) Director of Chaplaincy, Catholic Health Services of Long Island I write to congratulate Rev. Dr. Alphonsus Ezeoke for this unique 21st Century contribution to the field of education. While he promoted positive and optimistic concern to educational growth in general, he equally got to the root of the dilemma, illusions, presumptions, ideologies and projections that impact negatively on its attainment. I highly recommend this masterpiece to the educational system in Nigeria, especially to everyone who is conscious to make his/her educational journey a success story. -Anthony O. Nwachukwu, PhD, Psy.D (Prof. of Counseling Psychology and West African Studies) Chair, PhD Defense Panel, NY

Book Examinations

  • Author : John C. Mathews
  • Publisher : Taylor & Francis
  • Release : 2021-11-29
  • ISBN : 1000480046
  • Pages : 267 pages

Download or read book Examinations written by John C. Mathews and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 1985, Examinations presents a balanced overview and commentary on all the main aspects of public examinations. The key themes are examinations and their context (historical, political, social, and educational); functions of examination (how they work); equity and fairness of the process; and future of public examinations. Recurring issues in the book are the tension between the need for common national standards and the need for diverse individuality and the conflict between competitive functions of examinations as instruments of selection and their descriptive function as reports on standards of performance. The author argues that the main aspects of examinations are not given a prominent place in the training of teachers though public examinations have widespread impact on society. This book will be an essential read for scholars and researchers of education, higher education and also for administrators and policy makers.

Book Risk Education and Culture

Download or read book Risk Education and Culture written by Andrew Hope and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years education has become increasingly perceived as an area of risk. A number of highly publicized incidents have heightened awareness of the potential dangers to be found in teaching institutions. Although there is now a substantial conceptual literature on risk and the meaning of the risk society, such ideas have not to date been rigorously applied to the educational sector. The authors of this innovative volume address this gap, discussing the relevance of risk discourses to educational processes. They recognize that risk discourses themselves (both academic and political) do not necessarily relate to actual dangers within education and they examine the differences between the risk narratives of expert and layperson, teacher and student, practitioner and academic. This book will greatly interest both sociologists and educationalists interested in the interaction between education and contemporary trends in society.
