Download or read book Container Logistics written by Rolf Neise and published by Kogan Page Publishers. This book was released on 2018-05-03 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whilst the maritime container business has been studied in depth, the impact on shippers and how shippers deal with the given challenges has not been fully examined. Container Logistics bridges this gap and looks at the maritime business from a customer's perspective. The book examines the challenges, solutions and the latest developments in the container industry as well as the interaction between the different actors involved, such as freight forwarders, supply chain managers and shippers. Current hot topics from the supply chain and the maritime business perspective are included. From the supply chain perspective, Container Logistics covers areas such as the purchase of transportation services from ocean carriers and transport management, to effective and efficient logistics execution. From the maritime business perspective, the book covers topics such as intermodal freight optimisation and hinterland transportation, and terminal and port optimisation. With the inclusion of clear examples of best practice and bona fide case studies, as well as invaluable contributions from an international team of experts, Container Logistics is an essential guide for supply chain managers and shippers, as well as academics and industry professionals working in the maritime business. Online supporting resources include images from the book and chapter summaries.

Book excerpt: Reef ecosystems extend throughout the tropics. Exploited by small-scale fishers, reefs supply food for millions of people, but, worldwide, there are growing worries about the productivity and current state of these ecosystems. Reef fish stocks display many features of fisheries elsewhere. However, habitat spatial complexity, biological diversity within and among species, ecosystem intricacy and variable means of exploitation make it hard to predict sustainable modes and levels of fishing.

Download or read book Corrupt Exchanges written by Donatella Della Porta and published by Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft. This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corruption undermines the market and challenges government legitimacy. Its hidden character, however, makes it troublesome to study empirically. Corrupt Exchanges seeks to overcome this difficulty using the tools of economics and political science. The papers, presented at the Zentrum for Interdisziplinäre Forschung in Bielefeld, Germany, in 2001, begin a dialogue across disciplinary lines. The contributors are a first-rate group of scholars using diverse techniques, both qualitative and quantitative. Their work demonstrates that, with patience and creativity, the empirical study of corruption is possible and can contribute to the policy debate. One group of papers deals with high-level political corruption especially involving Member States of the European Union. The second group focuses on bureaucratic corruption in developing and transition countries. The papers study particular instances and types of corruption and suggest solutions. This book will interest to those concerned with limiting corruption worldwide, including the business and the nonprofit communities and international aid and lending organizations. The editors are internationally recognized experts in the study of corruption. Donatella Della Porta is Professor of Political Science at the University of Florence and the author (with Alberto Vannucci) of Corrupt Exchanges (1999). Susan Rose-Ackerman is Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University and the author of Corruption and Government (1999).

Download or read book Brunei and Malaysia written by Isa Ibrahim and published by I. B. Tauris. This book was released on 2015-02-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brunei, officially the State of Brunei Darussalam, is an oil-rich sovereign state in Southeast Asia, with 5th highest GDP per capita in the world. Formerly a British protectorate, in 1963 Brunei defied expectations and declined to join the federation of states which became Malaysia – a pivotal turning point in Brunei's history which set the course for its future development. In this book, Isa Bin Ibrahim – a key player in the Sultan of Brunei's delegation - provides an insider's account of the 1963 negotiations and deliberations. He sheds new light on Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III's relations with Tunku Abdul Rahman and explains why the British were so keen for Brunei to become part of the proposed federation, intending to create a counter-balance for Chinese power in the region. Through the author's unique eyewitness perspective, the true story behind Brunei's determination to retain its territorial integrity as a sovereign state is revealed for the first time.
