Download or read book Chemical and Biochemical Applications of Lasers V1 written by C. Bradley Moore and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical and Biochemical Applications of Lasers aims to give a general introduction to as well as an evaluation of the successful application of lasers in various areas, especially in the fields of chemistry and biochemistry. The book begins with a basic knowledge of general laser physics and the types of lasers, then moves on to more specific topics that include the Raman spectra of biological materials; laser spectroscopy of gas phase ions; and optical analogs of magnetic spectroscopy. The text also discusses the molecular beams; the energy flow in polyatomic molecules; and the different properties of molecules in relation to electronical excitation and quasi-electric light scattering. Studies of different chemical reactions are also included. The text is recommended for chemists, biochemists, and chemical physicists who want to know more about lasers and its applications to their respective fields. The book will also be helpful for those concerned with the chemical reactions lasers can bring about and for those who want to conduct further studies regarding laser uses.
Download or read book Spectroscopy of Systems with Spatially Confined Structures written by Baldassare di Bartolo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 758 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanometer scale physics is progressing rapidly: the top-down approach of semiconductor technology will soon encounter the scale of the bottom-up approaches of supramolecular chemistry and spatially localized excitations in ionic crystals. Advances in this area have already led to applications in optoelectronics. More may be expected. This book deals with the role of structure confinement in the spectroscopic characteristics of physical systems. It examines the fabrication, measurement and understanding of the relevant structures. It reports progress in the theory and in experimental techniques, starting with the consideration of fundamental principles and leading to the frontiers of research. The subjects dealt with include such spatially resolved structures as quantum wells, quantum wires, quantum dots, and luminescence, in both theoretical and practical terms.

Download or read book Military Laser Technology for Defense written by Alastair D. McAulay and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-05-31 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in ultra-high-power lasers, including the free-electron laser, and impressive airborne demonstrations of laser weapons systems, such as the airborne laser, have shown the enormous potential of laser technology to revolutionize 21st century warfare. Military Laser Technology for Defense, includes only unclassified or declassified information. The book focuses on military applications that involve propagation of light through the atmosphere and provides basic relevant background technology. It describes high-power lasers and masers, including the free-electron laser. Further, Military Laser Technology for Defense addresses how laser technology can effectively mitigate six of the most pressing military threats of the 21st century: attack by missiles, terrorists, chemical and biological weapons, as well as difficulty in imaging in bad weather and threats from directed beam weapons and future nuclear weapons. The author believes that laser technology will revolutionize warfare in the 21st century.
Download or read book Structure of Soviet Maser and Laser Research written by and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An attempt is made to outline the key avenues of research and the functional distribution of the leading Soviet scientific personnel engaged in maser development. For purposes of this study, a correlative analysis was applied to the published literature to develop the functional relationships among individual papers and their authors. Such correlative analysis was applied to significant research reports, reviews of scientific development, tutorial papers, and popular articles published in the USSR in the field of maser research since its inception, around 1954, to the present. The four main areas of Soviet maser research which are presented graphically are: (1) semiconductors (infrared and optical ranges); (2) paramagnetics (all ranges); (3) gas media (infrared and optical ranges); and (4) molecular beams (microwave range). (Author).

Download or read book Molecular Physics and Elements of Quantum Chemistry written by Hermann Haken and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook introduces the molecular and quantum chemistry needed to understand the physical properties of molecules and their chemical bonds. It follows the authors' earlier textbook "The Physics of Atoms and Quanta" and presents both experimental and theoretical fundamentals for students in physics and physical and theoretical chemistry. The new edition treats new developments in areas such as high-resolution two-photon spectroscopy, ultrashort pulse spectroscopy, photoelectron spectroscopy, optical investigation of single molecules in condensed phase, electroluminescence, and light-emitting diodes.

Download or read book Laser Physics written by Murray, Iii Sargent and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-03-05 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book treats the interaction of radiation with matter, particular attention being paid to the laser. Knowledge is assumed of the usual half-year introduction of quantum mechanics found in undergraduate physics curricula. The material can be covered in two semesters, or, alternatively, the first part (Chaps 1-13) can be used as a one-semester course in which quantum mechanical aspects of the electromagnetic field are ignored. Each chapter is accompanied by problems that illustrate the text and give useful (occasionally new) results. Existing laser media are intrinsically quantum mechanical and are most easily studied with the quantum theory. Understanding the laser along these lines enlivens one's understanding of quantum mechanics itself. In fact, the material constitutes a viable, applied alternative for the usual second and third semesters of quantum mechanics.
