Book The All or Nothing Marriage

Download or read book The All or Nothing Marriage written by Eli J. Finkel and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2019-01-08 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “After years of debate and inquiry, the key to a great marriage remained shrouded in mystery. Until now...”—Carol Dweck, author of Mindset: The New Psychology of Success Eli J. Finkel's insightful and ground-breaking investigation of marriage clearly shows that the best marriages today are better than the best marriages of earlier eras. Indeed, they are the best marriages the world has ever known. He presents his findings here for the first time in this lucid, inspiring guide to modern marital bliss. The All-or-Nothing Marriage reverse engineers fulfilling marriages—from the “traditional” to the utterly nontraditional—and shows how any marriage can be better. The primary function of marriage from 1620 to 1850 was food, shelter, and protection from violence; from 1850 to 1965, the purpose revolved around love and companionship. But today, a new kind of marriage has emerged, one oriented toward self-discover, self-esteem, and personal growth. Finkel combines cutting-edge scientific research with practical advice; he considers paths to better communication and responsiveness; he offers guidance on when to recalibrate our expectations; and he even introduces a set of must-try “lovehacks.” This is a book for the newlywed to the empty nester, for those thinking about getting married or remarried, and for anyone looking for illuminating advice that will make a real difference to getting the most out of marriage today.

Book Why Weddings Are A Waste Of Money Why Men Should Never Get Married In The Digital Era How To Have A Low Cost Wedding The Unbelievable Benefits Of Being Single Forever And How To Make Money To Finance Your Wedding Budget

Download or read book Why Weddings Are A Waste Of Money Why Men Should Never Get Married In The Digital Era How To Have A Low Cost Wedding The Unbelievable Benefits Of Being Single Forever And How To Make Money To Finance Your Wedding Budget written by Harrison Sachs and published by . This book was released on 2020-02-11 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This essay sheds light on why why weddings are a waste of money and elucidates why men should never get married in the digital era. Moreover, how to have a low cost wedding is explicated, the unbelievable benefits of being single forever are identified, and how to make money to finance your wedding budget is expounded upon in this essay. It is no surprise that weddings are deemed a colossal waste of money that often yield an insurmountable negative on investment. While having a grandiose, lavish wedding may seem like a worthwhile investment in your future if it will allow you to secure a lifetime of marriage with someone who you inexplicably love, the polar opposite is true. This is because, the grim reality that typically ensues shortly after the wedding and honeymoon have elapsed entails the husband experiencing the brunt of a draconian divorce and having to unremittingly work hard to make alimony payments to finance his ex-wife amenities, vacations, housing, and luxuries. Weddings are often the precursor to divorce and are a squanderance of money since they yield a negative return on investment even if both parties have a joyous time amid the wedding reception event. You may exhaust $100,000 on a wedding for instance and will be left with nothing but insurmountable debt, a broken marriage, and the burden of dispensing lifetime alimony payments to your ex-wife. Additionally, when you invest in a wedding, you are not buying any commodities, properties, nor securities for your hard earned money. In other words, you have nothing of resale value nor any income generating assets, such as stocks, bonds, rental properties, nor index funds, to show for depleting your exorbitant wedding budget. It is unwise to in-debt yourself for years or decades to come just to indulge of a night of exhilarating fun by having an extravagant wedding. For the price of a $50,000 wedding, you could alternatively buy a 2,000 square foot manufactured home, used car, and have $15,000 remaining for investment purposes. Expensive weddings are an ineffable colossal waste of money, especially when the couple is indebted, poor, or homeless. Moreover, wedding guests will have just as much as a thrilling experience attending a wedding and socializing, irrespective of how much money was spent on said wedding. People love to socialize and the value of their experience is not predicated upon the investment in the wedding's decor nor amenities. Wedding costs are exorbitantly outrageous and do not warrant the debt burden they cause couples to bear, especially if the wedding is funded by wedding loans. "According to The Knot's 2017 Real Weddings Study, the average cost of a wedding stood at $33,391 in 2017" (O'Connell), which is more expensive than the price to purchase both a 2,000 square foot manufactured home and used vehicle. "Obviously, your wedding costs may vary depending on how many guests you are inviting, the quality of the engagement ring, and how formal of an occasion you want your nuptials to be. Your head-count matters regardless of budget. The cost of a larger wedding, with 100 people or more, is significantly more than that of an intimate wedding. Geography also matters. For instance, If you get married in New York City (Manhattan), you can expect to pay at least $76,944" (O'Connell). Having an expensive wedding can precipitate an imminent divorce for financially beleaguered couples who cannot afford to pay off their growing wedding debt at a 28% APR with their infinitesimally low incomes. The cost to service debt burdens that accrue interest fees everyday wreaks havoc against a marriage since financial calamities profusely set marriage couples back from living their lives as they envisioned as a married couple. Wedding costs encompass renting the venue and groom's attire, paying for catering services and transporting services, buying wedding invitation, purchasing the wedding cake and wedding dress, and hosting the rehearsal dinner.

Book excerpt: An eye-opening, funny, painful, and always truthful in-depth examination of modern relationships and a wake-up call for single women about getting real about Mr. Right. You have a fulfilling job, great friends, and the perfect apartment. So what if you haven’t found “The One” just yet. He’ll come along someday, right? But what if he doesn’t? Or what if Mr. Right had been, well, Mr. Right in Front of You—but you passed him by? Nearing forty and still single, journalist Lori Gottlieb started to wonder: What makes for lasting romantic fulfillment, and are we looking for those qualities when we’re dating? Are we too picky about trivial things that don’t matter, and not picky enough about the often overlooked things that do? In Marry Him, Gottlieb explores an all-too-common dilemma—how to reconcile the desire for a happy marriage with a list of must-haves and deal-breakers so long and complicated that many great guys get misguidedly eliminated. On a quest to find the answer, Gottlieb sets out on her own journey in search of love, discovering wisdom and surprising insights from sociologists and neurobiologists, marital researchers and behavioral economists—as well as single and married men and women of all generations.
