Book excerpt: When a marriage is gasping for breath, "emergency" relationship help is needed. Couples are in the throes of high emotion and confusion, and often don't have what it takes to survive the next agonizing wave of emotion or uncertainty. Often, one or both partners already have a foot out the door. In some cases, this marriage emergency has happened suddenly. In other cases, couples have been treading water for years, languishing in an unhappy marriage and quietly reaching their breaking point. Marriage SOS throws "lifelines" to these drowning relationships by giving them easy and effective marriage-saving strategies so that they can find their way back to shore. It also provides "crisis care" so that couples can survive such ills as affairs or inappropriate opposite-sex friendships, an inability to budget, sex and intimacy issues, divided loyalties (i.e. ex-partners, in-laws), problems with blended families and step-children, and dealing with a belligerent, critical or defensive spouse. In Marriage SOS, leading marriage author-expert Debra Macleod, B.A., LL.B., has gathered her unique brand of practical, pull-no-punches, fast-acting marriage advice into book format. She has condensed the most effective strategies from her years of experience in successful private practice. These are strategies that have managed to help thousands of real-world couples make sometimes overnight improvements to their marriage. Importantly, Marriage SOS is a rare marriage guide that speaks with a candor that appeals to men as well as women. Part "emergency" marriage manual and part wake-up call to couples, Debra has created a month-long relationship saver that each day gives spouses a new and effective lifeline strategy that can rescue their relationship in thirty days. It also offers "crisis care" that helps spouses survive those acute or chronic problems that can drain the life out of a marriage. This remarkably pragmatic, effective and user-friendly book should be essential reading for all couples. Praise for Debra Macleod from LIBRARY JOURNAL: "Most people spend the largest part of adulthood slogging through committed relationships, and they need books like this."
Download or read book Passion Pursuit written by Linda Dillow and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2013-07-22 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Bible study about sex for women? Now that’s different! This new study, Passion Pursuit: What Kind of Love Are You Making?, lets God’s Word speak about sex as being holy and erotic, blessed by God, and satisfying far beyond what the world can even imagine. Picture that as a headline on the cover of Cosmopolitan! By using scripture throughout the Bible, Passion Pursuit not only urges women to pursue passion but details how God has given them permission to do so. Though there is fun to be had along the way in this study, it hits hard on the questions women have but are hesitant to ask, like: What does God say is okay and not okay in the bedroom? I’m 54 years old; how can my husband still be attracted to me? Why did God make men and women so different? This audaciously bold study combines the psychological expertise of Dr Juli Slattery, formerly of Focus on the Family, along with moving stories from trusted Bible teacher and best-selling author Linda Dillow. The groups who have already done this study have seen their marriages come alive, whether they’ve been married four months or forty years; be next! PLUS! Check out the Passion Pursuit DVD for even more great teaching from Lisa Dillow and Dr. Slattery. It's the perfect resource for individuals or small groups.

Book excerpt: The book for every married woman that wants the abundant sex life with her husband that God desires for her. SOS is a book that exposes lies about our sexual intimacy. It helps the reader address their unique issues with intimacy because it allows them to address their personal story from their introduction to sex. We have all forged an opinion about sexual intimacy based on our private experience. Our sexual journey is just as unique as each woman. No two women will ever have the same life experience so this book offers each reader clarity of their unique path through their own "jourvotional ". This is a journal and devotional at the end of every chapter with questions to draw out the reader as she writes down her own path of how her views on intimacy have formed. Filled with humor and reality, SOS gives the reader the opportunity to laugh, cry, pray and declare with dogged determination not to settle for mediocrity in her intimacy. Filled with a fresh perspective with other women's stories, how we view our bodies and all the things that attack our intimacy, SOS will keep the reader intrigued. This book will be used for personal encouragement in the area of sexual intimacy but it will also soon become a sought after Bible study for women in small groups. SOS will get women in the Christian community talking about sex with such expectation and hope that God's design of intimacy will become the new hot topic.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent years have seen a rennaissance of scholarly interest in the fin-de-siécle fiction of the New Woman. New Woman Strategies offers a new approach to the subject by focusing on the discursive strategies and revisionist aesthetics of the genre in the writings of three of its key exponents: Sarah Grand (1854-1943), Olive Schreiner (1855-1920) and Mona Caird (1854-1932). The study explores how each writer drew on, mimicked, feminized and ultimately transformed traditional literary and cultural tropes and paradigms: feminity, allegory and mythology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An anonymous musician plays Pachelbel's Canon on the electric guitar in a clip that has been viewed over sixty million times. The Dramatic Gopher is viewed over sixteen million times, as is a severely inebriated David Hasselhoff attempting to eat a hamburger. Over 800 variations, parodies, and parodies-of-parodies are uploaded of Beyonce Knowles' Single Ladies dance. Tay Zonday sings Chocolate Rain in a video viewed almost forty million times and scores himself a record deal. Obama Girl enters the political arena with contributions such as I Got a Crush on Obama and gets coverage in mainstream news networks. In Watching YouTube, Michael Strangelove provides a broad overview of the world of amateur online videos and the people who make them. Dr. Strangelove, the Governor General Literary Award-nominated author that Wired Magazine called a 'guru of Internet advertising,' describes how online digital video is both similar to and different from traditional home-movie-making and argues that we are moving into a post-television era characterized by mass participation. Strangelove draws from television, film, cultural, and media studies to help define an entirely new field of research. Online practices of representation, confessional video diaries, gendered uses of amateur video, and debates over elections, religion, and armed conflicts make up the bulk of this groundbreaking study, which is supplemented by an online blog at strangelove.com/blog. An innovative and timely study, Watching YouTube raises questions about the future of cultural memory, identity, politics, warfare, and family life when everyday representational practices are altered by four billion cameras in the hands of ordinary people.
