It is not intended to represent the opinions of the author, but simply to provide a structured and concise view of what the Bible has to say about marriage. Since God created marriage, He is clearly the one to know how best to live out married life to accomplish the purpose for which God created this institution. Most couples who have been exposed to this teaching have felt that their eyes were opened to Biblical truths that were previously unknown to them, or not discerned as applying to marriage. The purpose of the book is to strengthen current marriages (even mature ones) as well as better prepare young people entering into a committed relationship to help them start off on a strong and solid foundation of truth and understanding of the roles of a man and a woman in this wonderful institution ordered and blessed by God.

Book Maximizing Intelligence

Download or read book Maximizing Intelligence written by David Armor and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "nature versus nurture" controversy dates back to at least the nineteenth century. How much of a role does genetics or environment play in accounting for reasoning skill and other intellectual aptitudes? At a time when the public school system in the United States is under attack, this debate has taken center stage in arguments about what accounts for differences in academic achievement. Maximizing Intelligence convincingly argues that, while both genetics and environment play a role in a child's intelligence, environmental factors, especially at an early age, are of primary importance. Working from this premise, Armor suggests how intelligence may be heightened. Armor presents four propositions about intelligence. His first is that intelligence exerts a major influence on educational and occupational success, following a chronological sequence, from a child's cognitive skills learned before school, to academic success during the school years, to eligibility for college. His second proposition is that intelligence can be changed, at least within limits. There is ample evidence that a child's intelligence is not fully given at birth, but continues to evolve and change at least through the early elementary school years, although at a declining rate. Proposition three is that intelligence is influenced by a series of "risk factors," and most of the influence occurs before a child reaches school age. Risk factors include parent intelligence and education, family income, family structure and size, nutrition, and specific parenting behaviors. The fourth proposition flows from the second and third--that the most promising avenues for maximizing intelligence come from a child's parents. Armor persuasively argues for a "whole family" approach whereby government programs are modified or created to inform parents of risk factors and to reward behaviors that optimize positive outcomes. Maximizing Intelligence is meticulously researched

Book The Economic Approach to Human Behavior

Download or read book The Economic Approach to Human Behavior written by Gary S. Becker and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1976 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since his pioneering application of economic analysis to racial discrimination, Gary S. Becker has shown that an economic approach can provide a unified framework for understanding all human behavior. In a highly readable selection of essays Becker applies this approach to various aspects of human activity, including social interactions; crime and punishment; marriage, fertility, and the family; and "irrational" behavior. "Becker's highly regarded work in economics is most notable in the imaginative application of 'the economic approach' to a surprising breadth of human activity. Becker's essays over the years have inevitably inspired a surge of research activity in testimony to the richness of his insights into human activities lying 'outside' the traditionally conceived economic markets. Perhaps no economist in our time has contributed more to expanding the area of interest to economists than Becker, and a number of these thought-provoking essays are collected in this book."—Choice Gary Becker was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Science in 1992.
