Download or read book Marriage and Divorce Laws of the World Classic Reprint written by Hyacinthe Ringrose and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Marriage and Divorce Laws of the World The purpose of this volume is to furnish to the lawyer, legislator, sociologist and student a working summary of the marriage and divorce laws of the principal countries of the world. There are no geographical boundaries to virtue, wisdom and justice, and no country has as yet monopolized all that is best in creation. The mightiest of the nations lacks something which is possessed by the weakest; and there is no branch of comparative jurisprudence of more general con sequence than that treating of marriage, which is the keystone of civilization. By civilization we do not mean community life according to the standard of a single individual or nation, but in its broader and better sense, meaning the civil organization of any large group of human beings. This book is not a brief in favour of, or against, any particular social system or legal code, nor has it a mission to assist in the reformation of any country's marriage and divorce law. In the compilation which follows our endeavour is simply to set forth positive law as it exists to-day, leaving its correction or development to the proper anthorities. The editor has lived among the books of the British Museum, the Bibliotheque Nationale and other great libraries for years, seeking in vain for just such a compilation as is here humbly presented. We hope, therefore, that whatever may be its imperfections the book is justified, and will be welcomed as the first of its kind. Book Marriage and Divorce Laws of Massachusetts Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Marriage and Divorce Laws of Massachusetts The design of this work is to present in a concise form the law and rules of practice regulating the proceedings in causes of divorce. The leading cases in which questions of divorce law have been considered and determined have been carefully collected and cited. While it professes to be a handbook of Massachusetts law, frequent references are made to the decisions elsewhere, whenever they coincide with our own, or directly tend to explain and elucidate the text. The volume contains a treatise upon the substantive law of divorce and nullity of marriage, together with the defences commonly employed in such cases; the statutes relating to marriage and divorce, including the legislation of 1902; citations from the first 181 volumes of the Massachusetts Reports, and an appendix of forms. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A History of Divorce So far as I am aware, there is no book in the English language which gives a concise and simple account of the history of divorce, and there is no modem problem in which the historical and comparative study of law and opinion is so essential for those who administer or make the laws, and all those who wish to have an adequate knowledge of the subject in its modem bearings. The extraordinary diversity of laws and opinions which exists in modem countries of the same degree of civilisation, often professing the same religion, when seen in the light of history is found to have certain common elements which show that substantially the same forces have been at work in their evolution. The object of this book is to explain, as briefly and simply as I can, how this diversity came about, to endeavour to deduce from the facts of history the tendencies of thought and legislation, and to ascertain the principles which, according to the teaching of history, ought to be applied to modern legislation on the subject. Download or read book A Popular Treatise on the Law of Marriage and Divorce Classic Reprint written by Marvin S. Robinson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-02 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Popular Treatise on the Law of Marriage and Divorce To those who have patronized these divorce sharks, and to those who may be tempted so to do, this little book is dedicated. A careful peru sal of its contents may enable them to protect themselves against fraud, and possibly save some of them from the penitentiary. There is but one road over which one must travel to undo a marriage, and this is through the channels of the local courts, where one, at least, of the parties permanently resides and has his or her domicile. A divorce obtained otherwise, though red-taped, red-lined, and bearing a golden seal, is but as waste paper, and no protection whatever at any time or place. Book excerpt: Excerpt from It Is the Law: A Story of Marriage and Divorce in New York The virtuous woman is a crown to her husband, Prov. xii. 4. "My darling, I love you; passionately, devotedly. Fly with me, and we will find a home which we will make a paradise on earth. My love, my life, with you beside me, your love to strengthen me, I can carve out a fortune to lay at your feet. You love me even as I love you. Why should you hesitate, Mabelle?" She looked into the frank and handsome face, pleading so earnestly, and smiled a little sadly and very sweetly, as she answered slowly and with quaint pauses between each sentence, in a manner all her own. "No, Dick; it is quite useless to urge anything of that kind; but I am willing to listen to anything you have to say. The speaker is one and the listener is another; and what you have to say is a part of the story we are making, is it not? Haven't you stronger reasons to urge. Something to really tempt me, Dick?" "Do you need more, Mabelle, than our love? Can you not desire, even as I do, that we shall be all in all to one another - forgetting the world and by the world forgot. Do you not wish, as I do, that the world held only us two, and no more?" About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Divorce and Divorce Legislation Especially in the United States

Download or read book Divorce and Divorce Legislation Especially in the United States written by Theodore Dwight Woolsey and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Woolsey, Theodore D. Divorce and Divorce Legislation, Especially in the United States. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1882. x, [9]-328 pp. Reprinted 2001 by The Lawbook Exchange, Ltd. ISBN 1-58477-118-6. Cloth. $75. * Reprint of the revised second edition. Woolsey presents his viewpoints on divorce legislation with extensive statistical support for his view that, with the exception of the statutes enacted in the state of New York, the United States courts are careless in their execution of divorce legislation. He also questions their adherence to Christianity. His views on the decline of divorce legislation are supported by a scholarly examination of the roots of divorce law in Hebrew, Greek and Roman law, the doctrine of divorce as portrayed in the New Testament and in the Christian Church, and in Europe since the reformation. First published in 1868, this second edition revision includes new material in the chapter on divorce legislation in the United States that brings it up to date at the time of publication. Woolsey [1801-1889] was a theologian, educator and scholar, a professor of classical studies whose knowledge thereof informs this work. He was also President of Yale University for twenty-five years during which the University enjoyed growth and advancement in many areas. See Dictionary of American Biography X:519-520.
