Book excerpt: Marranga-Limga is a story set in the early settlement of a gold-mining town in Queensland, Australia. It begins in 1880. It is the story of a young couples arrival with their small son and the hardships and heartache they share with the community. It is Nikas story. Born on the bank of the Mary River she has a unique path to follow. Child of an Irish miner and a proud Aboriginal native woman, it is her story of identity. In the midst of the towns history of pubs, miners, railway workers, timber carriers, brothels, and conflicts, there is the courage of a people trying to forge not just their present but establish something meaningful for the future. Tom, the travelling evangelist, joins other Christians in this mix of life, living, hardship, and conflict. His story is a journey to find not only a place but his own integrity and purpose. Marranga-Limga is fictional. There is no similarity between any person presently living or now dead. All of the people and even the promise expressed are fiction. The background events have historical accuracy although the flood date was not given because several occurred during a short period. The purpose of the flood event was to bring the story to its climax. Certainly the courage, faith, hope, and tenacity of the Gympie community is truth. Marranga-Limga relates to us alla common desire to forge a meaningful path and the hope for better.

Book excerpt: Legacy of Limga continues the story of a family living in a small rural community with a gold-mining history in Queensland, Australia. The people in the story are all fictional, but the historical events are accurate. This story looks back from a 2015 perspective to retrace the legacy of a little girl born on the banks of the Mary River in Gympie in 1869. It will uncover her ongoing journey of faith, family, love, and heartache as the whole town grows from an insignificant small backblock town to a city through two world wars and the unfolding of incredible changes that swept the whole Australian continent during the twentieth century and into the twenty-first century. This is the story of community courage and of Christian tenacity, but it is also the story of family and a legacy that resonates through generations that is more than about material possessions. Legacy relates to everyone who believes that love is stronger than hatred and that true courage is not just about triumphing in hard times but the hope that rises towards an even better tomorrow. Legacy is a journey through generations, and it traces peoples strength through the historical events, many of them tragic and challenging, in their lifetimes.

Download or read book Beyond the Ashes written by Faye Roots and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-04-14 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beyond the Ashes is an Australian novel set in the period when young people went on safari tours to the inland and climbed Ayers Rock. Turtle conservation and watching on the east coast of Australia was just beginning. The themes of the novel are forgiveness and love and reveal how issues in the past can dramatically affect the present when tragedy strikes. It is the story of a tragic road accident and a familys deterioration when communication between them fails and lack of forgiveness is allowed to fester. It is the story of a young womans journey to regain her fathers love and his journey to finally lay to rest his past and find life beyond the ashes. It is also a story of faith and young marine biologist Martin Kelsos certainty that this family can be restored. It is Kate and Daniels story. It is Raelene and Martins story. It is a story of hope. Many different people with their unique stories become entwined on the journey. From the red heart of Australias centre to the blue of the Pacific Ocean and beaches on the east coast, no location can by itself heal the pain of human brokenness. This is a fiction story and the characters and events are not based on any person or historical event. The east coast beach towns and scenes all have fictitious names. Only the places, towns in the centre, and Ularu (then known as Ayers Rock) have retained their names, but with the 1970s atmosphere. Beyond the Ashes is a journey of the heart as much as it experiences a shifting of physical locations.
